Weekly Sunday morning messages from The Salvation Army Church in Forest Lake, Brisbane, Australia.
Our lives are made up of relationships. We are fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, husbands, wives, employees and managers. If we put these relationships under the rule and reign of God, we can experience a bit of life on Earth as it is in heaven.
Collosians 3 invites us to don His clothing, clothing that represents His desire for the way we relate to others, to ourselves and to people's action and attitude toward us. The perfectly fitting and final coat is love. Now that's model material!
The Christian life is one of freedom. Freedom from the murky morals of the world, and freedom from religious rule-keeping. Let's use this freedom in God-honouring ways!
We are called to a relationship with Jesus, not a contract. Paul urges us to understand that our victory is found in the death and resurrection of Christ and is not found in any outward practice. What does life look like when we throw away the 'to do list' and take up the call 'to be', taking root in Christ alone and bearing beautiful fru
Victory can look like many things. The greatest image of victory though, is the cross. A picture of complete defeat is actually God's ultimate victory. Jesus invites us to die to self, with him on the cross, and rise again in victory. Let's face it, we could all use a little bit more of God's ultimate victory in our lives!
The mystery of Christ is revealed to us through the Gospel. Jesus is our supreme value. If we truly knew how precious he is, our hearts would be truly satisfied. Where does your map lead?
Paul is suffering for the benefit of the church in Colossae... Why? How? Well, it has something to do with all the energy that Christ is working in him.
Nobody has seen God, God is completely inaccessible to humanity. However, Jesus is the image of the invisible God. Through him we can access God, experience life to the full on earth and eternity in heaven. We can also reflect his image in our lives, if we continue in faith!
In this, the first installment of our new series in Colossians, Paul turns an everyday greeting into grace and peace. What ways can we turn our everyday events into grace and peace? There is life to be had if we do! The words of Jesus encourage us to seek peace with God and each other. How do we established reconciliation with one another so we can authentically be ministers of reconciliation? This message highlights the priority of and provides 5 steps towards seeking biblical peace through reconciliation with each other.
This message considers the story of Hannah and the provocation that lead to her complete surrender to God. In this surrender she was blessed outrageously and we see once again the power of God to take the unexpected and do the unimaginable.
Jesus interaction with the woman at the well reflects his heart for empowering woman, releasing them to freedom. This Mother's Day message highlights learnings from this well known passage from John 4, where Jesus invites us to drink his water, a fresh bubbling spring within, giving eternal life.
The story of Noah is a story of judgement and redemption. For those who believe in God, they will be safe in the arms of Christ - the only vessel of salvation. So are you in the Ark?
Throughout Abram's life, God was faithful to his promises. Abram responded by being faithful and obedient. Through Abram's long obedience, God blessed Abram, and blessed others through him. God works the same way today. If we are obedient and faithful to God, as Abram was, we will be blessed, and others will be blessed through us.
On that very first Easter, God did something very unexpected. He didn't give people what they wanted, but he gave them what was best for them. Today, sometimes God does not do what we want, but the cross and resurrection confirms with us that God is still about what is best for us.
Many of us are misunderstood from time to time. However, it seems that God is frequently misunderstood - by Christians. There is a certain type of worship that God desires, that he asks us to bring him. Isaiah 58, along with many other bible passages, reveal a significant way that God desires to be worshiped, but often doesn't get it. Let us worship God in all the way he desires!
The Corinthian church had lots of problems. One of those was that they did not do community well. Lucky for us, we have nothing in common with that church, right?
We were created with inherent cravings or longings, things like the universal needs of mankind to be loved, to have a purpose, to worship or to live a rich and satisfying life. Continuing on the Power of 3 journey this weeks message explores some steps that can help to deepen our relationship and experiences with God. Stop hiding from God, Don't fall for the lies of the deceiver and make a B line for Christ.
The life of a Christian involves daily self-denial. For the season of Lent, we have a great resource to really "be" the church throughout the lenten season. To fully express God's heart for humanity we prioritise Experiencing him, Embracing each other and Engaging the world. These concepts are designed to be expressed holistically, both corporately and personally. This message looks at this balance and the challenges associated with having one of these Es as the centre, as opposed to God.
We all have individual names, but we also have a community name too. Lake Community Church has been given a special name by God, a special vision that God wants to manifest through us. What's your role in seeing this vision become reality?
God is a Name-Caller. In the bible, he took broken people, called them by new names, and changed the direction of their lives. The story of Jacob is a great example of this. Today, God wants us to come to him with all our brokenness so he can give us a new name, one that will give us life in all its fulness on earth, and eternity in heaven with him.
Yes, you are correct, this is not a recorded Beatitude in the Gospels. However, I think it is God's intention for the pinnacle of his creation - humanity. This message will explore the Genesis account as a blue print for God's people living a blessed life and why Jesus' birth is critical to the restoration to life God purposed for you and me.
Being a disciple of Jesus isn't a conservative, safe, 'nice' thing to do. It's a radical, risky and adventurous. Romans 12 shows us how a disciple is marked by sacrifice, non-conformity and transformation. Only those who embrace those three are true disciples. True disciples understand the true meaning of #YOLO - a youth culture acronym for "You only live once".
A challenge to share the Gospel with all those in our sphere of influence.
To be a follower of Jesus means that we follow his commandments. This includes following his general commands in the Bible, and also his special individual requests to us. If we are to be "following in the dust of our rabbi", we should expect to see evidence of our obedience in all areas of our life, and experience the wonderful fruit that obedience brings.
Following Jesus' words to make disciples results in on going generational differences in our lives and the lives of those around us. Following these words though doesn't necessarily require an elaborate plan, but making consistent, spirit responsive decisions throughout our day. Are your decisions resulting in steps of discipleship for you or others? Today's message explores this question.
In Romans 12, Paul pleads with the believers to offer their bodies as living sacrifices, explaining that this is the way to truly worship God. This message celebrates our redemption story and calls for a response of worship to the one who alone Is worthy.
Love is the true mark of a follower of Jesus. The new commandment to love one another lifts the ceiling on our capacity to love. By abiding in The Vine, we are able to love out of the infinite resources of Jesus' love.
A Message from one of the great youth at LCC. Lauren is 16 years old and passionate about each one of us living a life of ministry. We are ALL called to ministry.
Throughout his ministry, Jesus made clear the close association between being a disciple and making disciples. Being a christian isn't an internal practice, but an external one. Some think of evangelism as hard, uncomfortable and forceful. However, evangelism that is natural and gentle is much more effective. People of today are listening to that kind of evangelism.
There is a very well known fella in the bible, who made a great success in his career: the fisherman Simon Peter. He and his friends caught uncountable number of fish in one throwing. The two boats were so full with fish that they began to sink. But the story finishes like this: he and his friends left all the fish they just caught behind as well as their boats, nets, and everything. And followed Jesus. How could that be? What made him become such a radical follower of Jesus?
Listen as we hear stories of amazing healing that God has done in our church.
Sometimes we pray for healing, and it happens. Other times we pray for healing and it doesn't? Why? Whilst no answer can fully satisfy, there is plenty in our understanding of the Kingdom of God to help us understand this tension. How should we respond to this tension? We pray! We pray big prayers, persistent prayers and honest prayers, and we wait in faith for God to answer
Have you ever let someone down? Disappointment has a real knack of hamstringing us from doing things that God would have us do. However, Peter's story of disappointing Jesus gives us reassurance that Jesus wants to restore us. Past failures need not preclude us from future possibilities.
A story of Jeroboam: from superhero of Israel to superzero of the nation.
Throughout our lives there are people with whom we interact, places to which we go and pain we experience which cause us to draw a line in the sand for life thereafter about: Practices we chose to adopt, Promises we make to ourselves Principles by which we choose to live. Following Jesus is a line in the sand experience and radically changes the way we are to live our lives. Have you drawn your line in the sand?
Psalm 119 is the longest Psalm, and the longest chapter in the bible. From A-Z this psalm speaks of the perfect and powerful Word of God. This message takes a look at versus 9-16 and considers how we can be all that we were created to be by remaining pure and obeying His word.
In Jesus' Day, children had very little social worth. Jesus confronts that perception, and instead of meeting with adults, he spends time with children. Culturally, what Jesus was doing was very embarrassing, as evidenced by the way his disciples reacted. If we are to be followers of Jesus, we also must be prepared to be embarrassed for the sake of children, and be embarrassed for the sake of the Kingdom.
Earth's crammed with Heaven, and every common bush alive with God, but only he who sees, takes off his shoes. The rest sit around it picking blackberries.
Combined worship service with LCC & Grace church. Pastor Han brings a message on doing all we can so that others might have the opportunity to hear the good news.
Although we do not always keep our promises, God is always faithful, and always keeps his promises. In the story of Hagar, God's faithfulness is displayed in a wonderful way. This is of great encouragement to us, because even though people will let us down, God will never let us down.
At the culmination of our series on Gifts, the revelation to John gives a vision of what God's eventual plan for the world is. By using our gifts, we can start contributing to that new vision now!
The Beanhunter App. invites users to rate the service of a coffee shop, ranging from "No service, I made the coffee myself" to "Made my coffee for me before I arrived". I wonder how those who experience the church (from within and external to) might rate the service of the church? God's desire for us is to serve each other in love and out of freedom. Let us examine what might be your desire for service to him and to each other?
