Elijah's ministry to Israel at a time of rampant backsliding is a challenge and an encouragement to us in the days of apostasy in which we live. But what drove Elijah? What was his abiding concern—his activating conviction? Reed S. Rusniak takes us to the heart of the prophet's motivations.  This week's article, the first of a projected six-part series in the print magazine, is from the June 2026 issue.    Featured resource:  Reed S. ROOM TO BREATHE PT. 4 |  MAY 24, 2026Pastor Bria BradshawWhen we trust God with what's His, we finally have room to breathe. Exodus 18:13-16 (ESV) The next day Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood around Moses from morning till evening. When Moses' father-in-law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said, “What is this that you are doing for the people? Why do you sit alone, and all the people stand around you from morning till evening?” And Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to inquire of God; when they have a dispute, they come to me and I decide between one person and another, and I make them know the statutes of God and his laws.”Exodus‬ ‭18‬:‭17‬-‭23‬ ‭(ESV‬‬) Moses' father-in-law said to him, “What you are doing is not good. You and the people with you will certainly wear yourselves out, for the thing is too heavy for you. You are not able to do it alone. Now obey my voice; I will give you advice, and God be with you! You shall represent the people before God and bring their cases to God, and you shall warn them about the statutes and the laws, and make them know the way in which they must walk and what they must do. Moreover, look for able men from all the people, men who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe, and place such men over the people as chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. And let them judge the people at all times. Every great matter they shall bring to you, but any small matter they shall decide themselves. So it will be easier for you, and they will bear the burden with you. If you do this, God will direct you, you will be able to endure, and all this people also will go to their place in peace.”WISDOM FOR THE BURDENED1. In Dr. Tirabassi's final chapter of her dissertation, A Call To Burdened Leaders to Pray Alone, Alongside…Until, Becky suggests that it is critical, at those junctures when the answer to your intercessory prayer has still not come, to review the lives of historical or biblical leaders burdened with similar challenges. Through them, you will see how they displayed perseverance and courage in the face of their adversaries to sustain their God-given assignment alongside other like-minded believers. And finally, to remember, there is no special secret to perseverance in prayer other than to keep praying, stay the course, and stand firm until God answers. And above all, be the persevering prayer leader in your sphere of influence.   ANY questions on HOW to LEAD a prayer meeting, the free ebook, or for daily encouragement to read through the Bible in a year, or for Becky's resources, visit: https://linktr.ee/BeckyTirabassif   Please follow Becky daily @BeckyTirabassi on Instagram or Facebook or email Becky: Media@beckytirabassi.com   For the seriously burdened leader, an eBook version is available here.

In Genesis 42, Joseph's brothers stand face-to-face with the very man they betrayed—yet they cannot recognize him. Why? This powerful moment reveals more than a hidden identity— it exposes a deeper kind of blindness. Burdened by guilt and haunted by past decisions, the brothers struggle to see clearly. Their sorrow clouds their perception, their fear distorts reality, and their unresolved guilt keeps them spiritually and emotionally blind. -Do you want to be an active member of 21c Moses? Join Dr. Becky as she continues in her dissertation with Chapter 6: A Scriptural View of a Burdened Leader's Life of Prayer. Scripture provides numerous examples of burden leaders who engage in and rely on the same three traits as prescribed in this dissertation- personal, intercessory, and persevering prayer- to overcome outsmart and outlast their opposition. Importantly, their lives demonstrate to today's leaders that when burden leaders pray, it is not simply theoretical. Prayer releases a divinely imbued agent of change that, over time- and sometimes, even immediately- effectively transforms a situation, person, culture, community or country, thus, pointing to God is the reason for success against their relentless and fierce enemies.

Hello to you listening in Greeley, Colorado! Coming to you from Whidbey Island Washington, this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga. I believe that our November to May Rain Festival is nearly over. Here in the Pacific Northwest we welcome clear skies, sunshine, warm weather, less winter burden, and maybe even dropping our shoulders from the habitual “fight or flight” response to the world that continues spinning on an axis of uncertain madness.  Habit. It's like that story about a team of pack animals struggling their way up a mountainside. The last pony in line was wearing a saddle but the horse just ahead of him was burdened with boxes and bags and baskets. The pony said: Good grief, what a heavy load you're carrying! The horse turned it's head and asked: What load? Like that horse we get used to carrying so much we don't even realize it. Practical Tip: Right now, in this moment stop, take a few deeps breaths, gently ease your shoulders away from your ears and smile to them; thank them for what they've been carrying for you and tell them that in the future you will take care to burden them less. Then wait for a moment while they smile back at you.    You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" There will also be direct fuel payments to hauliers, bus operators, farmers, agricultural contractors and those involved in fisheries, while carbon tax increases have been delayed until the Budget in October. Tulla Fianna Fáil Minister of State Timmy Dooley says the heaviest users of fuel will be greatest beneficiaries of the measures.

It's a fact that many of you who are listening to my voice right now are weighed down under the burden of a child or grandchild who has entered into rebellion and walked away at some level from you and from the Church. I know that this is a heartbreaking load to carry. And when you are carrying it, you are often led to feel like nobody understands or nobody is willing to step up and carry the load with you. I want to remind you of the words Jesus has spoken in Matthew 11:28. He says, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and over-burdened, and I will give you rest! Put on my yoke and learn from me. For I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Along with Saint Augustine, we can pray these words for each other, “Lord, those who are bowed down with burdens you lift up, and they do not fall because You are their support.” Burden-bearing parents, may the Lord bless you today with a deep sense of his promised peace.

How Should I Do With A Burdened Conscience? | Christ For YouHebrews 9:11–15What do you do when your conscience will not leave you alone? When the guilt is real, the memory is fresh, and no excuse seems strong enough? Why does remorse hurt so deeply? And why do all our usual ways of dealing with guilt fail to give peace? In this sermon on Hebrews 9:11–15, Pastor Rojas explores the difference between regret and remorse, the burden of a guilty conscience, and the false ways people try to deal with their sin apart from Christ. From distraction and excuse-making to self-punishment and despair, sinners are always trying to quiet the conscience without actually being cleansed. But Hebrews declares that the blood of goats and bulls could never perfect the conscience of the worshiper. Only Christ can. This sermon shows how Jesus, our great High Priest, entered the true holy place with His own blood and secured eternal redemption for us. It shows what “dead works” really are, why human effort cannot remove guilt before God, and how the blood of Christ purifies the conscience and gives real peace. First Baptist Church Sherman, Texas (Sermon Audio)

Jesus tells two powerful parables in Luke 15 about a lost sheep and a lost coin that reveal God's passionate pursuit of every person. When religious leaders criticized Jesus for spending time with sinners, He responded by showing that God urgently seeks the lost with the same intensity as a shepherd searching for one missing sheep or a woman hunting for a precious coin. The heart of God is filled with love-driven urgency for every person because we are made in His image and have infinite worth. Our lack of evangelistic passion often stems not from logical concerns but from insufficient love for others. God eagerly waits to receive sinners and celebrates every salvation with heavenly joy. -------------------- ' Now all the tax collectors and sinners were coming to hear him. But the Pharisees and the experts in the law were complaining, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” So Jesus told them this parable: “Which one of you, if he has a hundred sheep and loses one of them, would not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go look for the one that is lost until he finds it? Then when he has found it, he places it on his shoulders, rejoicing. Returning home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, telling them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my sheep that was lost.' I tell you, in the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need to repent. “Or what woman, if she has ten silver coins and loses one of them, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search thoroughly until she finds it? Then when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.' In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of God's angels over one sinner who repents.”' Luke 15:1-10 --------------------- I. Burden is based on love (15:4; 8) a. Value changes urgency b. We must love people like Jesus loved us II. Burdened searches are not in vain (15:5-6; 9) a. God rewards those who join Him in the search b. If you never share God's burden, you won't share His joy III. Burden breaks into a banquet (15:7; 10) a. Heaven parties when the lost come home b. Who will be in heaven one day because of you? Burdened for the One 1. Ask Jesus to give you His heart for the lost 2. Urgently seek the lost 3. Celebrate when the lost are found! Renew your burden for lost souls and join in God's plan to save them!

“Most of the couples that I spoke with wanted to distance themselves from old-school gender norms, and yet very few were able to achieve balance when it came to the division of this mental work.”— Dr. Allison DamingerIf you've ever lain awake mentally running through tomorrow's logistics while your partner sleeps soundly beside you, this episode is for you. Dr. Allison Daminger, sociologist and author of What's on Her Mind?, has spent nearly a decade studying something most families feel but few can name: the invisible cognitive labor that keeps a household running. It's not the cooking or the carpooling, it's the anticipating, the researching, the deciding, and the endless following up. In this conversation, Dr. Daminger unpacks why this mental work falls so disproportionately on women—even in couples who are genuinely trying for something more equal, what makes it so stubbornly hard to redistribute, and what it would actually take, in our homes and in our culture, to change it.Website: allisondaminger.com · Substack: The Daminger DispatchWhat Is Mental Workload?Dr. Daminger describes mental workload as “project management for the household” — a set of cognitive processes geared toward figuring out what a family needs and ensuring those needs get fulfilled. It breaks down into four key steps:* Anticipation — scanning ahead for upcoming needs, problems, or opportunities* Identifying options — brainstorming or researching possible solutions* Decision-making — choosing the best course of action for the family* Monitoring — following up to make sure the solution actually workedUnlike physical housework, this labor is largely invisible, often not recognized as “work” even by the person doing it.“This is a set of mental processes that are geared toward figuring out what your family needs, what you owe to other people, and then how to ensure that those needs and obligations get fulfilled.”— Dr. Allison DamingerKey Research FindingsThe Gender Gap Is StarkIn Dr. Daminger's study of different-gender couples, 4 out of 5 were “woman-led,” meaning she was effectively the “cognitive laborer in chief.” While couples were closer to 50-50 on physical housework (cooking, cleaning, driving), the mental work remained deeply unequal.Earning More Doesn't Level the Playing Field, Not for WomenWhen men earned more or worked more hours, they almost always did less cognitive labor. But the same did not hold true in reverse: women who were the primary earners still shouldered a disproportionate share of mental work. The breadwinner pass applied to men, not women.“In cases where she was doing more hours or earning more money, a lot of the time she was still doing more of the cognitive labor.”— Dr. Allison DamingerWhy Does This Persist?Accountability StructuresOne of Dr. Daminger's core explanations is “accountability structures,” which is the fact that men and women are held responsible for different outcomes. Men feel guilt around financial failure; women feel guilt when household or parenting management slips. This asymmetry shapes who pays attention and who steps in.“If the kid comes to school missing their clarinet on band day, or guests come over and there's dog hair on the floor, these are outcomes that usually are going to be blamed on women.”— Dr. Allison DamingerThe Stickiness ProblemCognitive labor is deeply embedded in knowledge, relationships, and practice, making it hard to hand off. A partner who has attended every pediatrician appointment holds context the other doesn't have. Many women conclude it's simply easier to keep doing it than to train someone else. This keeps the division of labor frozen even when both partners want change.“You can teach someone to change a diaper pretty quickly. But a lot of cognitive work is embedded in knowledge and relationships that are hard to just hand over.”— Dr. Allison DamingerWhat Balanced Couples Do Differently“If you can lead from the place of: I'm suffering, this is not working for me, that will activate a form of compassion that is harder to access when it's framed as criticism.”— Dr. Allison DamingerTransfer Ownership, Not Just TasksThe “just tell me what to do” dynamic is a common trap. If she's still the one generating the list, she still owns the domain. Dr. Daminger's advice: transfer full vertical ownership of a category, not just execution of individual tasks.“All things laundry, that's now you. Not just one piece, but making sure there's detergent, making sure the kids have clean clothes on time, making sure the washer and dryer are functioning. If you can give someone up-and-down vertical ownership of the whole project, that's often more effective than one-off task delegations.”— Dr. Allison DamingerStart Small and Give It Time• Pick lower-stakes domains first — tasks you won't catastrophize if done differently• Set a grace period (e.g., two weeks) before evaluating — transitions are inherently bumpy• Avoid overhauling everything at once; there will be mistakes as skills are built• Resist the urge to take back a task the moment it's done differently than you wouldKey TakeawayThe skills that shape who does cognitive labor are learned, not innate. Calling it a “personality difference” lets the pattern off the hook. Dr. Daminger's research suggests that recognizing the work, naming it, and deliberately redistributing ownership (not just tasks) is how couples begin to change. The structure matters too: fewer systemic barriers mean fewer forced tradeoffs, and a more level playing field at home.Listen to the full episode to hear what she suggests for more broad, societal level changes that could help this imbalance of cognitive load.A Mind of Her OwnHosted by Dr. Jennifer Reid, MDBoard-certified psychiatrist, author of Guilt Free: Reclaiming Your Life From Unreasonable Expectations, and award-winning medical educatorjenniferreidmd.com | A Mind of Her Own on Substack@jenreidmd on Instagram and LinkedInAlso check out Dr. Reid's regular contributions to Psychology Today: Think Like a ShrinkSeeking a mental health provider? I remember being a young kid and singing these words in church: "Are you weak and heavy-laden? Burdened with a load of care?" As parents, there have been times when all of us have had to honestly answer "Yes". At other times, the "Yes" comes from dear friends who are locked into periods of unimaginable burden-bearing. Difficulty is to be expected as we are all sinners living in a broken world. If you take the time to read Hebrews 12 you will find words on sonship and the Lord's discipline. God disciplines those He loves. We are reminded that while we may be feeling crushed by the weight of our present burdens, God is present and at work. Remember the words of Hebrews 12:11 - "For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it." Parents, remember that while you are parenting your children, God is parenting and forming you, especially during the hard times.

The reality of God's sovereignty in salvation and the promise that no one and nothing can separate the Christian from God's love are reasons for all who are in Christ to rejoice. However, these same truths will lead many to ask important and sometimes difficult questions. One such question is what about Israel, what about the Jews? In Romans 9 through 11, the Apostle Paul addresses this question; in doing so, he not only provides answers, but he gives us an example of what it means to be burdened for those we know and love who are separated from Christ.

As our daily prayer and devotional remind us, whether it’s from illness, emotional pain, grief, or stress, weariness can weigh on our hearts and bodies. In this honest reflection, Vivian Bricker shares how her struggle with chronic illness has taught her to lean on Jesus’ promise in Matthew 11:28–30 — that He offers real rest for the weary. God’s invitation to “come” is both gentle and personal. He doesn’t demand strength from us; instead, He offers His own. In our weakness, He promises peace. When we take His yoke upon us — choosing to walk in step with Him — we discover that His way is not burdensome but freeing. The world tells us to carry everything ourselves; Jesus tells us to hand it all over to Him. No matter what’s weighing you down today — pain, uncertainty, loss, or loneliness — remember this: you are not alone, and you are not forgotten. Christ invites you to exchange your burdens for His peace and your exhaustion for His rest. Today's Bible Reading:“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28–30

The concept of learned helplessness is where individuals feel stuck due to societal programming and limiting beliefs about healing and personal change. Quantum entanglement and how personal healing can ripple through past and future generations. The four pillars of the L.I.F.E. Method: Liberation (uncovering hidden patterns), Integration (using breathwork and somatic tools), Frequency Upgrade (regulating the nervous system), and Embodiment (anchoring new behaviors and boundaries). [05:45] It's Your Responsibility to Heal Emotional epigenetics is likened to tending a garden, where inherited genes are seeds and the environment and choices are the nourishment. While inherited pain is not one's fault, it is each person's responsibility to heal and prevent passing trauma to future generations. How the L.I.F.E.
