Day 2913 – Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 145:14-21 Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2913 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2913 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. The title for today's Wisdom-Trek is: The Open Hand of the Sovereign King – Satisfying the Soul and Guarding the Faithful On our previous trek together—on Day Two Thousand Nine Hundred Twelve—we stood on the breathtaking mountain pass of Psalm One Hundred Forty-Five, exploring verses eight through thirteen. We contemplated the magnificent, self-revealed character of Yahweh; a King who is merciful, compassionate, slow to anger, and filled with unfailing, covenant-keeping love. We celebrated His everlasting kingdom that spans every physical and spiritual generation across the entire cosmos. Today, as we step onto the final ridge of this magnificent psalm, advancing into Psalm One Hundred Forty-Five, verses fourteen through twenty-one, David brings this grand, acrostic masterpiece to its ultimate, soaring climax. What makes this passage so extraordinary is how it seamlessly bridges the infinite with the intimate. David takes our eyes—which were previously gazing at the eternal throne of the universe—and gently directs them down to the everyday realities of human suffering, physical hunger, and heartfelt prayer. As we close out the very last psalm directly attributed to King David in the Book of Psalms, we will discover how the supreme Ruler of the celestial council personally bends down to lift the weary, open His generous hand to feed all creation, and draw near to everyone who calls upon His name in truth. The first segment is” The Divine Provider: Lifting the Burdened and Opening the Heavenly Hand Let us open our hearts to the tender, sustaining care of our Creator, as recorded in the New Living Translation, grouping together the logical, contiguous thoughts found in verse fourteen, verse fifteen, and verse sixteen. The Lord helps the fallen and lifts those bent beneath their loads. The eyes of all look to you in hope; you give them their food as they need it. When you open your hand, you satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing. In these three beautiful verses, David unveils a radical, breathtaking vision of divine care that would have thoroughly shocked the ancient Near Eastern world. In the pagan nations surrounding Israel, earthly kings and their territorial deities operated with cold, imperious detachment. The pagan gods were believed to be needy, demanding entities who created human beings solely as slaves to build their temples and feed them with ritual sacrifices. Furthermore, human kings in antiquity rarely cared for the weak, the poor, or the crippled; they valued only the strong, the wealthy, and the warrior class. But look at how Yahweh, the true Lord of the divine council, reveals Himself! He is the Sovereign God who actively bends down to help the fallen and lifts up those who are bowed low beneath crushing burdens. David paints a magnificent picture of universal cosmic dependence, declaring that the eyes of all creatures—from the smallest bird in the forest to the highest angelic host in the heavens—look to Yahweh in expectant hope. And how does the King of the universe respond? He does not send a cold bureaucrat, nor does He demand an impossible tribute. Instead, with astonishing simplicity and fatherly warmth, He simply opens His hand! In Hebrew thought, the open hand of Yahweh is the ultimate symbol of effortless, boundless generosity. By a mere gesture of His sovereign hand, He satisfies the deep hunger and thirst of every living thing on earth. Whether it is physical food for the wilderness beast or spiritual sustenance for a weary traveler on life's trek, our God is the generous Provider whose open hand keeps the entire cosmos alive and thriving. The second segment is: The Righteous Refuge: Drawing Near to the Sincere Soul The narrative now deepens, moving from physical provision to moral perfection and intimate spiritual fellowship, as David combines his logical thoughts in verse seventeen, verse eighteen, and verse nineteen. The Lord is righteous in everything he does; he is filled with kindness. The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth. He grants the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cries for help and rescues them. Consider the staggering moral contrast David highlights in verse seventeen! Yahweh is “righteous in everything he does” and “filled with kindness.” In the original language, that word for kindness is chasid—meaning He acts out of absolute, holy loyalty and steadfast covenant love. In the unseen heavenly assembly, where principalities and powers observe the unfolding of human history, Yahweh's reign stands completely unblemished. There is no corruption in His courtroom, no partiality in His judgments, and no cruelty in His decrees. Every single act of His providence is saturated with flawless righteousness and gentle kindness. Then, look at the profound promise in verse eighteen and verse nineteen: “The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth.” In ancient royal courts, approaching a human monarch was a terrifying, life-threatening ordeal; you needed official clearance, elevated status, or lavish gifts just to stand in the outer courtyard. Yet, the supreme Ruler of heaven and earth makes Himself immediately accessible to anyone who cries out to Him with a sincere, honest heart! He does not require slick religious jargon or ritual performance; He demands only truth—an authentic, unmasked soul. When those who reverently fear Him cry out from the depths of distress, the Almighty does not turn a deaf ear. He hears their cries, grants their deepest spiritual desires, and personally steps into their circumstances to execute a glorious rescue. The third segment is: The Dual Verdict and the Universal Song of Eternity As we approach the final movement of this extraordinary psalm, David brings his narrative to a powerful, dual-sided climax, weaving together the contiguous thoughts in verse twenty and verse twenty-one. The Lord protects all who love him, but he destroys the wicked. I will praise the Lord, and may everyone on earth bless his holy name forever and ever. In verse twenty, David presents the ultimate, inescapable crossroads of cosmic history: "The Lord protects all who love him, but he destroys the wicked." In the ancient Israelite worldview, the world is locked in a real spiritual conflict between the kingdom of Yahweh and the forces of chaos, idolatry, and darkness. God's protective guard—His divine shield—encamps continuously around those who align their hearts with Him in love. But those who persistently choose wickedness, oppression, and rebellion against the Creator are choosing their own ultimate undoing. The judgment of Yahweh is not petty vengeance; it is the necessary, holy purging of evil from His creation, ensuring that chaos will never have the final word in His universe. And then, look at how David concludes verse twenty-one! This is an historic moment in the Psalter. David utters his very last recorded words in the Book of Psalms: "I will praise the Lord, and may everyone on earth bless his holy name forever and ever." What a magnificent way for the warrior king to sign his final psalm! David begins with his individual vow—"I will praise the Lord"—and then immediately expands his voice to encompass the entire globe, praying that "everyone on earth"—all flesh, all nations, and all generations—would join in blessing Yahweh's holy name for all eternity. David hands off the baton of praise to us, inviting the whole world to join the heavenly council in endless, joyful adoration of our King! Nehemiah had every reason to look the other way. He was safe. He was comfortable. He had a good job in the king's palace, hundreds of miles from the trouble. But when the news came about a broken city and a scattered people, he did not shrug it off and move on. He sat down and wept. For over a hundred days. What could grip a man that deeply about people he had never met and a place he had never seen? This message walks through the opening of Nehemiah to uncover a burden that did not come from Nehemiah at all. It came from God. And the same God still breaks hearts today, not to crush us, but to send us. The Lord is not looking for cold religion, empty profession, or outward performance from people whose hearts are far from Him. He is looking for a believer with a willing heart, a heart that says, “Lord, here am I, use me.” In Exodus 35, the Tabernacle was not built by pressure tactics or forced giving, but by men and women whose hearts were stirred and made willing before the LORD. That is still the pattern today. The believer who has been saved by the shed blood of Jesus Christ ought to have a heart that is ready to serve, ready to give, ready to labour, ready to pray, ready to witness, and ready to stand in the gap while there is still time. A willing heart does not wait to be begged, bribed, or entertained into obedience. It hears the voice of God through the word of God and responds, “What wilt thou have me to do?”“Take ye from among you an offering unto the LORD: whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, an offering of the LORD; gold, and silver, and brass,” Exodus 35:5 (KJB)But a willing heart must become a burdened heart and a surrendered heart, or it will never go the distance. A burdened heart looks at the lost and sees souls on their way to Hell without the gospel, and it refuses to be comfortable while sinners perish. A surrendered heart looks inward and says, “Lord, deal with my sin, my pride, my flesh, my worldliness, and anything that keeps me from being meet for the Master's use.” This is where real Bible Christianity lives — not in slogans, not in sentiment, not in Sunday-morning religion, but in a heart yielded to God, burdened for souls, and willing to fight against the world, the flesh, and the Devil until the Lord gives the victory. The harvest is still white, the gospel is still powerful, the King James Bible is still the preserved word of God, and Jesus Christ is still saving sinners. What God is looking for now is a vessel with a willing heart to serve, a burdened heart to seek the lost, and a surrendered heart to yield completely to Him. This is my message on today's Sunday Service.

The horse turned it's head and asked: What load? Like that horse we get used to carrying so much we don't even realize it. Practical Tip: Right now, in this moment stop, take a few deeps breaths, gently ease your shoulders away from your ears and smile to them; thank them for what they've been carrying for you and tell them that in the future you will take care to burden them less. Clare's Minister of State says the measures announced by the Government will help those "burdened most" by fuel increases. Cabinet has signed off on more than €500m in measures to support those struggling with rising energy costs, including a further 10c cut in excise duty on both petrol and diesel to the end of July and a 2.4c reduction on green diesel. There will also be direct fuel payments to hauliers, bus operators, farmers, agricultural contractors and those involved in fisheries, while carbon tax increases have been delayed until the Budget in October. Tulla Fianna Fáil Minister of State Timmy Dooley says the heaviest users of fuel will be greatest beneficiaries of the measures.

It's a fact that many of you who are listening to my voice right now are weighed down under the burden of a child or grandchild who has entered into rebellion and walked away at some level from you and from the Church. I know that this is a heartbreaking load to carry. And when you are carrying it, you are often led to feel like nobody understands or nobody is willing to step up and carry the load with you. I want to remind you of the words Jesus has spoken in Matthew 11:28. He says, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and over-burdened, and I will give you rest! Put on my yoke and learn from me. For I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Along with Saint Augustine, we can pray these words for each other, “Lord, those who are bowed down with burdens you lift up, and they do not fall because You are their support.” Burden-bearing parents, may the Lord bless you today with a deep sense of his promised peace.

Jesus tells two powerful parables in Luke 15 about a lost sheep and a lost coin that reveal God's passionate pursuit of every person. When religious leaders criticized Jesus for spending time with sinners, He responded by showing that God urgently seeks the lost with the same intensity as a shepherd searching for one missing sheep or a woman hunting for a precious coin. The heart of God is filled with love-driven urgency for every person because we are made in His image and have infinite worth. Our lack of evangelistic passion often stems not from logical concerns but from insufficient love for others. God eagerly waits to receive sinners and celebrates every salvation with heavenly joy. -------------------- ' Now all the tax collectors and sinners were coming to hear him. But the Pharisees and the experts in the law were complaining, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” So Jesus told them this parable: “Which one of you, if he has a hundred sheep and loses one of them, would not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go look for the one that is lost until he finds it? Then when he has found it, he places it on his shoulders, rejoicing. Returning home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, telling them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my sheep that was lost.' I tell you, in the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need to repent. “Or what woman, if she has ten silver coins and loses one of them, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search thoroughly until she finds it? Then when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.' Burdened for the One 1. Ask Jesus to give you His heart for the lost 2. Urgently seek the lost 3. Celebrate when the lost are found! It breaks down into four key steps:* Anticipation — scanning ahead for upcoming needs, problems, or opportunities* Identifying options — brainstorming or researching possible solutions* Decision-making — choosing the best course of action for the family* Monitoring — following up to make sure the solution actually workedUnlike physical housework, this labor is largely invisible, often not recognized as “work” even by the person doing it.“This is a set of mental processes that are geared toward figuring out what your family needs, what you owe to other people, and then how to ensure that those needs and obligations get fulfilled.”— Dr. Allison DamingerKey Research FindingsThe Gender Gap Is StarkIn Dr. Daminger's study of different-gender couples, 4 out of 5 were “woman-led,” meaning she was effectively the “cognitive laborer in chief.” While couples were closer to 50-50 on physical housework (cooking, cleaning, driving), the mental work remained deeply unequal.Earning More Doesn't Level the Playing Field, Not for WomenWhen men earned more or worked more hours, they almost always did less cognitive labor. But the same did not hold true in reverse: women who were the primary earners still shouldered a disproportionate share of mental work. The breadwinner pass applied to men, not women.“In cases where she was doing more hours or earning more money, a lot of the time she was still doing more of the cognitive labor.”— Dr. Allison DamingerWhy Does This Persist?Accountability StructuresOne of Dr. Daminger's core explanations is “accountability structures,” which is the fact that men and women are held responsible for different outcomes. Men feel guilt around financial failure; women feel guilt when household or parenting management slips. This asymmetry shapes who pays attention and who steps in.“If the kid comes to school missing their clarinet on band day, or guests come over and there's dog hair on the floor, these are outcomes that usually are going to be blamed on women.”— Dr. Allison DamingerThe Stickiness ProblemCognitive labor is deeply embedded in knowledge, relationships, and practice, making it hard to hand off. A partner who has attended every pediatrician appointment holds context the other doesn't have. Many women conclude it's simply easier to keep doing it than to train someone else. This keeps the division of labor frozen even when both partners want change.“You can teach someone to change a diaper pretty quickly. But a lot of cognitive work is embedded in knowledge and relationships that are hard to just hand over.”— Dr. Allison DamingerWhat Balanced Couples Do Differently“If you can lead from the place of: I'm suffering, this is not working for me, that will activate a form of compassion that is harder to access when it's framed as criticism.”— Dr. Allison DamingerTransfer Ownership, Not Just TasksThe “just tell me what to do” dynamic is a common trap. If she's still the one generating the list, she still owns the domain. Dr. Daminger's advice: transfer full vertical ownership of a category, not just execution of individual tasks.“All things laundry, that's now you. Not just one piece, but making sure there's detergent, making sure the kids have clean clothes on time, making sure the washer and dryer are functioning. If you can give someone up-and-down vertical ownership of the whole project, that's often more effective than one-off task delegations.”— Dr. Allison DamingerStart Small and Give It Time• Pick lower-stakes domains first — tasks you won't catastrophize if done differently• Set a grace period (e.g., two weeks) before evaluating — transitions are inherently bumpy• Avoid overhauling everything at once; there will be mistakes as skills are built• Resist the urge to take back a task the moment it's done differently than you wouldKey TakeawayThe skills that shape who does cognitive labor are learned, not innate. Calling it a “personality difference” lets the pattern off the hook. Dr. Daminger's research suggests that recognizing the work, naming it, and deliberately redistributing ownership (not just tasks) is how couples begin to change. I remember being a young kid and singing these words in church: "Are you weak and heavy-laden? Burdened with a load of care?" As parents, there have been times when all of us have had to honestly answer "Yes". At other times, the "Yes" comes from dear friends who are locked into periods of unimaginable burden-bearing. Difficulty is to be expected as we are all sinners living in a broken world. If you take the time to read Hebrews 12 you will find words on sonship and the Lord's discipline. God disciplines those He loves. We are reminded that while we may be feeling crushed by the weight of our present burdens, God is present and at work. Remember the words of Hebrews 12:11 - "For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it." Parents, remember that while you are parenting your children, God is parenting and forming you, especially during the hard times.

As our daily prayer and devotional remind us, whether it’s from illness, emotional pain, grief, or stress, weariness can weigh on our hearts and bodies. In this honest reflection, Vivian Bricker shares how her struggle with chronic illness has taught her to lean on Jesus’ promise in Matthew 11:28–30 — that He offers real rest for the weary. God’s invitation to “come” is both gentle and personal. He doesn’t demand strength from us; instead, He offers His own. In our weakness, He promises peace. When we take His yoke upon us — choosing to walk in step with Him — we discover that His way is not burdensome but freeing. The world tells us to carry everything ourselves; Jesus tells us to hand it all over to Him. No matter what’s weighing you down today — pain, uncertainty, loss, or loneliness — remember this: you are not alone, and you are not forgotten.
