The Bible is a great book for many reasons, one of which that it speaks to us about living in faith on good days and in tough ones. Eventually, faith gets tested. Over the course of life will come a day where it seems like everything has gone wrong, evil and sin will rise, and we wonder ‘How am I going to deal with this?' The good news is faith wins and the strength faith is forms the heart of Munger this Sunday. Extra Mile: The Book of Revelation is written in a time where the Church is under tremendous persecution from the Roman Empire. The book is written in a kind of code perhaps in case it fell into the wrong hands - the images would be confusing to the nonbeliever. In our passage today, Revelation 21:1-7, the passage speaks of a ‘New Jerusalem'. A new source of holiness and strength will rise - the old world of persecution will stop and a new day begin. In our society, sacred texts are seen, at best, as irrelevant and, at worst, as an excuse to incite violence, hatred, and division. So what value, if any, can sacred texts hold for us today? And given the context in which they were written, what role, if any, should these texts play in forming our spiritual practices? For thousands of years, oral traditions and sacred texts were viewed as spiritual tools that helped individuals connect with the Divine and transcend themselves and their egos. There is an art to reading sacred texts, an art form that has been pushed aside since the onset of modernity. In this series, we will rediscover this lost art form within religious traditions. And while we will discuss formal religious sacred texts, we will also explore other sacred texts that inform our moral and spiritual practices, such as literature, art, film, and music. www.TheLoftLA.org

Then you could prepare for it and maybe even avoid some of the crises that are headed you way. Well, we do not what happens next if we will pay attention to Jesus' words. Devotional I like Chinese restaurants Décor Food Fortune cookies Disappointed if they don't give them to you at the end of the meal Usually don't say anything worthwhile Always want to see what they say, though We want to know what's ahead Card readers Palm readers Fortune tellers Horoscopes Astrologers Psychics and mediums $2 billion industry Interesting that not a large percentage of those spending those $2 billion spend much time looking into the book that tells them what the future will really be like Every prophecy laid out in scripture has come true in its time Read through the Old Testament and watch all those prophecies come to pass the prophets gave the kings Red the prophecies about Jesus and see them fulfilled in the New Testament Now Jesus gives this vision to John as he sits in exile on the Isle of Patmos If all the other prophecies have come to pass, why wouldn't we think the things Jesus tells John in this book will not take place? We want to know the future It's good to be prepared for contingencies It's good to know a little of what will happen so we're not surprised It's good to know God knows what is happening so we are assured He has everything under control It's good to know none of the brokenness that continues to fracture this world shakes the Eternal from His throne It's good to know God will stand with us and live in us to help us through the roughest times of life when we give ourselves to Him We don't need psychics and mediums, palm readers and fortune cookies to tell us about tomorrow In plain sight for us if we just read God's word He tells us what to expect and how to prepare for it His book isn't that long, but making it the volume you go to everyday as your number one self-help book, will certainly change you more than anything else you could do If you want to learn more about my church, you can find us at SAF.church. Scripture: Rev 2:8-11 Description: Jesus knew the suffering of the church in Smyrna, and he knows what we go through. He set firm limits around how much pain they would be subject to, and grants the ability to endure. He does the same for us today. If we are faithful, we can be victorious through every storm.
