Gena and TJ put a bow on the shit show that was 2020 and recap the year, for better or for worse. We talk love, loss, and...dog anatomy??? (LOL) 2020 might have been tough but at least we can still laugh about it! Grab a drink and join us in saying goodbye to a year we're never going to forget.
...and not the good kind. If you’re like us, you would have thought COVID would be a distant memory by now as we are almost a year into it. Sadly, that’s not the case and even with the vaccine on the horizon, will we go back to life and dating as we know it in 2021? On today’s episode, Gena and TJ talk about the changes to the dating landscape, good (and warm) date spots this winter that won’t get you muuuurdered (like inviting a stranger to your house for a first date could), and some bullshit called “slow dating” that Bumble coined. Watch Joke, Roast and Toast - Exes Edition
Hi friends! It’s us! Do you remember us? We know it has been a minute, but COVID has hit Chicago hard (us included!) so taping and lining up guests has been tough. Today’s episode is just us...unless you include our antibodies and then that makes the ménage. TJ and Gena catch up on life, recent heartbreaks, life changes, and random shit. Thanks so much for the continued support! We love you guys!
With the election right around the corner, it seemed relevant to address a topic that has faced many of us as we date. What should we do about dating someone with different political beliefs? In this political climate, is that even possible? Do you think someone having the opposite beliefs is a red flag or deal breaker? Listen in as we discuss this and more! We also talk about Venmo stalking, chance encounters with internet people across Chicago (Hi AR!), Gena's mom's love of QVC, and make an exciting announcement about some new merch!! DON'T FORGET TO VOTE!!!
On today's episode, we have our friend, comedian, and one of the best people we know, TJ Stokes! He cohosts a show called Topics On The Streets, with friend of the pod, Darrian Lewis, that Gena will be on coming out Saturday, so we wanted to do a crossover and flip the script! We cover topics such as, is flirting cheating? Is chivalry dead? Do you have a type (hint: Ass. That's all it takes, apparently)... and so much more. Drink everytime you hear the word "backshots." Enjoy! If you want to see today's guest live at Zanies in Chicago AND come say hi to US (we will be there!) on 10/17 you can set your tickets HERE!
We're back from a three week, foster dog induced, hiatus to talk about the debate (spoiler alert - watch it on edibles), questionable social media habits, boredom swiping, our appearance on the "Doing Time" Podcast with Drew Loryn, TJ's return appearance to stand up, and Gena accuses TJ of editing abuse of power!
You guuuuys! Today's episode is the first post-quarantine in-person recording in 6 months! We had so much fun taping this episode with Darrian Lewis, co-host of the podcast B Posi+ive: The Chicago Stories and the co-founder of B Posi+ive Productions, that we actually recorded it twice (yay technical difficulties)! Things got weird, guys. We caught up on how TJ's first stand up show went, all things "coochie", period sex, porn, and can men and women really just be friends? Get ready to laugh until you cry. We're back in full force, baby!! Let's go!
Twice. He actually went to Jared twice. Jhovany Diaz, host of Lobo Den podcast, shares his stories on today's episode about how he was engaged twice, the times he has paid for sex, and hitting his rock bottom in Miami. Toward the end of the episode, we also answer a few burning listener questions. Hang onto your butts guys...it's a wacky episode.
Get your minds out of the gutter! We are talking about sliding into DM's, jeeze. On today's episode, we have fan favorite Zako Ryan back on the pod! We talk about the face of comedy in the midst of COVID, TJ's comedy debut, Gena's stalker, Zako's love of butterfly kisses down below, and the right and wrong ways to slide into people's DM's. Follow Zako on Instagram here and follow his web series, Zako and Zeus, here
On today's episode, we talk to Winnie Hefner in all his non-binary finery. He's host of the podcast Winnie's World, a podcast about what it's like to exist as a non-binary person in today's world. We dive deep into the importance of normalizing pronouns, his and TJ's love of TikTok, how important it is to live your authentic truth, and what it's like when love and sexuality isn't so black and white (OMG! See! See what we did there? Living in the Gray- get it?!? Sometimes we really outdo ourselves). Follow Winnie on Instagram@winnie.wears.what
On today's episode we talk to Sara and Sterling Buckley - high school sweethearts turned teen parents. After 17 years and 3 kids together, they started a podcast called Not The Worst Marriage, that may or may not teach you anything other than marriage is hard, but if you are willing to put the work in, you can overcome anything (including infidelity). We talk to them about maintaining your own identity during a relationship, opposite sex friendships (we are a pod divided on this), and how to keep a relationship healthy and happy in the most realistic ways possible. Follow them on Instagram @nottheworstmarriage and follow Sara at @nottheworstmom to keep up to date on all the fun things they are working on. You can also find their podcast anywhere you listen to podcasts.
On today's episode, we dig back into the Menage-a-Pod mail bag, or as it's known to women all across the Chicagoland area, TJ's DM's. We are answering questions about dating after a divorce, tackling sex in the time of COVID, FWB's, how soon before you can stop using condoms, and partners with attention hungry animals. What more could you want to hear about on this lovely day besides our voices tickling your eardrums and tackling these burning topics? If you have a question for our next mail bag episode, please DM us @Menageapodcast on IG and we will answer your questions on air!
Loving Day is an annual celebration held on June 12, the anniversary of the 1967 United States Supreme Court decision Loving v. Virginia which struck down all anti-miscegenation laws remaining in sixteen U.S. states. In the United States, anti-miscegenation laws were U.S. state laws banning interracial marriage, mainly forbidding marriage between 2 different races, until the Warren Court ruled unanimously in 1967 that these state laws were unconstitutional. Chief Justice Earl Warren wrote in the court majority opinion that "the freedom to marry, or not marry, a person of another race resides with the individual, and cannot be infringed by the State." This week we are joined by Brandon and Indira, an interracial couple in their first year of marriage. We talk about their journey as a couple, navigating the potential landmines, the impact of microaggressions, and we talk about the importance of difficult conversations. We give you those answers and more, some helpful tips for the epidemic, and then we go back into the mailbag and you guys didn't disappoint. Finally, we talk about the newest dating app for guys...but the catch is your penis has to be smaller than 5.5 inches!?! I feel like this goes without saying (LOL), but do not mistake our advice for actual medical advice. Click the link below to see the CDC's recommendations for minimizing risk with coronavirus. :https//www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prepare/prevention.html

“I can’t wait to get married and spend the rest of my life being judged by your mother.” There comes a time in all serious relationships when it’s time to meet your partner’s parents. In an ideal world, everyone would get along, enjoy the holidays together without bickering, and have family dinner’s without someone throwing a roll at your head. Unfortunately, most of us don’t live in an ideal world. So, in today’s episode, we talk to comedian Dan Cass (IG@dancasscomedy) about what it’s like to date someone and not get along with their parents and what you can do to effectively navigate the land mines. Check out Dan at the Love Below Comedy Show at Beermiscuous (2812 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL) the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month! The Speed Dating Social Event with Overheard In Chicago at Goat Climb and Cryo on January 25th from 6-9pm sold out yesterday in two hours so there will be no link to that event.
This week Gena and TJ look back at the best and worst 2019 had to offer and give their two cents. Relationships, social media, the best restaurants of Chicago, and some of our favorite creators across Chicago also get call outs! Say goodbye to the dumpster fire that was 2019, and say hello the the dumpster fire that is 2020. #NewYearSameUs
In our most popular episode of 2019, we're joined by the beautiful and hysterical duo from Overheard in Chicago (IG: @overheard_in_chicago) as we discuss red flags and dealbreakers. Does he live in a carpeted studio apartment? Red Flag. Does he cut his tacos with a knife and fork? Red flag! Is he having you over to his girlfriend's house when she's out of town? Dealbreaker x 10. Also, how many yellow flags make up a red flag? Is there anything that can make up for a red flag (Big Dick Energy? Money?). We explore all of this and more, so grab your drink and settle in for a doozy. We wanted to end the year with our most positive episode of 2019! I know what you're thinking. Menage-a-Pod is doing an episode that is full of rainbows and kittens? That's so not on brand! BUT WAIT! Don't go anywhere, because this episode is a really good one and is a refreshing change from the norm. This week, we talked to self proclaimed "dudebroguy with perspective" Case Kenny (@case.kenny). Case is a writer, influencer, entrepreneur and founder of PRSUIT (@PRSUIT), a daily email full of perspective that inspires and is dedicated to helping you become the badass human you’re meant to be. He's also the host of the podcast, "New Mindset, Who 'Dis." And if that's not enough for you to check him out, then go stalk his IG page and check out this man's muscles. You can thank us later. We talk about vulnerability, being happy with who you are, why it's important to embrace your ho phase, and not being afraid to shoot your shot to get what you want. And don't worry, we will be back to our regularly scheduled snark next week. Happy almost Thanksgiving everyone! That has nothing to do with our episode today, but it had to be said. This week, we talk to Jacob Wells (@jacobmwells), host of The Big Gay Roundup Podcast (@biggayroundup) about celebrity crushes, and we spill some tea about Vanderpump Rules, who’s had the best Botox treatments, coming out in his early 20’s to extremely religious parents (he's a preacher's kid), and how Hydrate is a shit show of a place that we hate to love. If you want to find out more about Menage-A-Pod, head over to our Instagram @menageadpodcast, where you will find our Linktree that includes links to our Facebook group, Twitter account, website, top episodes and more. Today's episode gets a little heavier than normal for us here at Menage-A-Pod. Considering 1 in 4 people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives, we sat down with Drew Loryn Soffer (@drew.loryn on IG) of the incredibly insightful and informative podcast, Doing Time (@doingtimepodcast on IG) to talk about mental illness, addiction, how prescription drugs play a role in every day life, coping with mental illness, and how mental illness can affect your relationships. She's incredibly open and honest about her experiences with this difficult topic. If you or someone you love lives with a mental illness, give this one a careful listen. Listen to Doing Time on Apple Podcasts https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/doing-time/id1479079214
This week we are in the studio all by our lonesome, trying to get past TJ being really tired, slap happy, and obnoxious and derailing the episode at every turn, as we discuss what to do when you're in a relationship but people from your past keep reaching out. Should you tell your partner about every contact every time, let them know about the tone and promise it's innocent, or cut it off before it goes somewhere it shouldn't? Surprisingly, we both agree on this topic...Sort of. It's cold in Chicago, so grab some hot cocoa and listen in for a funny, short episode that might feature the world's best beat boxer!?!
Due to some scheduling conflicts this week, we decided to re-release one of our most popular episodes ever, featuring one of the sexiest and most badass woman in Chicago. You're welcome! On today's show, we have on the incredibly badass, sexy, yet unassuming, and all around cool chick, Sophia Chase (IG@lovelyladysophia). Sophia is a professional Dominatrix and owner of Chicago Dungeon Rentals. She is celebrating her tenth year as a dominatrix this year and we couldn't be more excited to have her on the show to talk to us about her decision to become a Pro-Domme, what got her into the BDSM lifestyle, how YOU can ease into it, her favorite sex toy, and she also gives us a lesson on how to perfect dirty talk, which TJ totally nails (just wait for it...). Today we talk to Katie Tomaszewski (Instagram@deeplinehealth, www.deeplinehealth.com) about what it's like to venture out on a journey of sobriety and what it's like to date when you aren't having that personality drink before, during, and maybe even after depending on how the date goes. I seriously can't even imagine. So many coffee dates. This is usually when I would suggest pouring a glass of wine and settling in to listen, but I don't like to be an enabler, so let's try something different this week...make yourself a nice cup of tea instead. Your liver will thank you later for it.
For today's episode, it's just the two of us and we are talking about getting to that coveted second date. What does that entail? What should you not do? Honestly, the jury is still out as it seems like we disagree on a few points, but that's to be expected. You know, Mars/Venus and all.
Why don’t ghosts think puns are funny? Because they’re dead inside. GET IT? So many puns, so little time. On today's episode we are being seasonally appropriate by chatting with blogger Jess Zimlich (www.26andnotcounting.com / IG@26andnotcounting) about ghosting; why people ghost (Maybe they get spooked? Ok, ok, I'm done), how not to ghost, and how to handle the rejection. We even share our most cringe-worthy ghosting stories for your listening pleasure. Recommended pairing for today's episode is a flannel, a pair of leggings, and a grande PSL. #basicbitchforlife Today’s Episode is brought to you by TBOX 2019! 12 bars of Xmas is right around the corner! On today's episode we have on Jamie Shriner Biddle (IG@jamieshrinerbiddle, stand-up comedian, co-producer of Shady Babies @North Bar and Comedy Uncensored Naughty Thoughts at The Laugh Factory, and creative force behind the musical “Wife Material”) to talk body count. Surprisingly, we aren't talking about murder this time, though you know how much we love a good true crime pod. Instead, we mean it in terms of sexual partners. Are people still having that conversation with their significant other? If so, are you honest about your number? How many is too many? Should you be counting oral? Did I forget to eat breakfast this morning? So. Many. Questions!
On today's episode, we talk with comedian Dario Durham (IG@dariodcomedy, regular at My Buddy's, co-host of the @b__positive_ Podcast) about getting over your ex. There are so many reasons to get over your ex and we could have talked for hours about it, but we had other important things to discuss like, throwing sperm around the room, the plight of having a giant forehead, and stalking people on social media. We laugh a lot on this episode and Dario's positivity really shines through, so get ready to start your Monday with a smile. You can thank us later.
On today’s episode we talk with comedian Kenyon Adamcik (@kenyoncomedy on IG, producer of @derailedcomedy at the Laugh Factory, and cohost of @illseeyouinhelp podcast) about his views on self help, some of the methods he has been forced to try for the good of his podcast, and drinking your own urine. Yes, you read that right. Because apparently, the only way to fight off disease is to drink the very thing your body is expelling. We. Just. Can’t. Ew.
On today’s episode we talk about “The Nice Guy.” Who is he? What’s he like? Can you really date him? Should you date him? Is he really that nice? So. Many. Questions. All of which will be answered on today’s show with our amazingly funny guest, comedian, and producer of Shady Babies at North Bar and Comedy Uncensored Naughty Thoughts (C.*.N.T.) at the Laugh Factory - Alexa Jaeger (@alexajaggs on IG) TJ is riding in a charity motorcycle event on September 29th to benefit Prostate Cancer and Mental Health Charities, called the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride.
