Abbey Finch and Jenny Jennings have never seen Playing For Keeps, but they rewrote it and we read their script. Abbey and Jenny are the hosts of ROMComedians, a comedic rom-com podcast, so finding one they'd both never seen was tough. After our first recording attempt was thwarted by Mojo the Puppy, we plugged back in and read their script, played a lot of Rom-Com themed games, talked tropes, and more! How did a small bar in Leeds serving Beamish Red and Kronenbourg become a driving force in the craft beer revolution? Founded by John Gyngell and Christian Townsley (above) back in 1997, North Bar is an institution when it comes to great, modern beer. And nearly 25 years on, the team has just opened the...

Today's episode is a bumper special: a narrative exploration of one of my favourite cities in the UK — Leeds. This bastion of West Yorkshire is very special to me, and that's because it's such a wonderful place to visit and to drink some very fine beer.During this episode we'll hear from several key people from within the Leeds beer scene, including: Richard Brownhill of Little Leeds Beerhouse and bar, Brownhill and Co, Russel Bisset, founder and director of Northern Monk Brewery, Katie Marriot and Mike Hampshire of Nomadic Beer, and finally Christian Townsley, who over two decades ago founded North Bar with his friend and business partner John Gyngell—who, together, are arguably two of the most important figures in British beer today.Host: Matthew CurtisGuests: Russell Bisset — Northern Monk, Richard Brownhill — Little Leeds Beerhouse, Katie Marriot & Mike Hampshire — Nomadic Beer, Christian Townsley — North Brewing Co. This episode was recorded at the North Bar in Chicago as the first show on our five-city Midwestern tour. What better subject to tackle on our first trip to the Windy City than “Chicago Bosses?” Our first storyteller was one of Chicago’s funniest comedians, Adam Burke (Doug Loves Movies, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, Put Your Hands Together). Adam told us a slightly disgusting story about his time working at a pub where his boss reused the beer that spilled into the trap. He also admitted to being very bad at construction. Shannon Noll, who you might know from getting threats for her live portrayal of Barron Trump, told a hilarious story about doing speed and being the best dishwasher one major sub sandwich shop has ever seen. Her story also involves fireworks and a very gross revelation about used kitchen grease. Like every creative in Chicago, Dan Sheehan (creator of the hilarious NOT A WOLF Twitter account) spent some time working for the online deals pioneers Groupon. His review of his time with the company is less that glowing. And Finally, Kyle Scanlan (The Whiskey Journal, the Lincoln Lodge) talked about his time working in sales, washing cars, and a boss who encouraged him never to give up on his comedy dreams. His story has an amazing payoff.
This week we discuss Warped Tours announcement to issue parent tickets again but with restrictions. We talk about Chance the Rappers new charity fund he has started in Chicago to help public schools. We discuss the new Metal Disney cover album that Disney has released. Album Picks of the week: Matt: Galactic Empire - self titled 2017 Grant: Metal Disney Featured Artist: Titty Citty "Titty Citty is a comedy-rock experience created by four Chicago comedians with four musical instruments. Their songs deliver funny lyrics laid over catchy pop-rock tunes. Some categorize their act as “variety”. Titty Citty simply calls it “The way and the light”. They hold a monthly residency at North Bar in Wicker Park and are regulars at numerous Chicago venues." This week we feature the track "Red Lobster" and also feature the track "Everyone Dies" at the end of the show.
