Hello everyone! It's been a minute, Wendy and I have taken our annual break to recharge, and now we're back at it again. First up for 2021 is this episode we recorded last year on how we spend our money as young adults, and how these habits can be improved. Wendy and I are apart so naturally I did my best to convince my mother to do another episode with me; this time we talk menopause instead of sex education. We touch on my mother's experience with menopause, how often she has discussed it with other people, the different symptoms women experience, how women of colour's menopause experiences differ from white women's, and more!    Menopause is a beast of a topic and I ended up cutting our discussion about the effect menopause has on an increased risk of osteoporosis, and the modern day treatments for menopausal symptoms. For a moment Wendy and I pretend time travel exists and reflect on a couple things we would've done differently with our 2018 trips East. If we were gifted mulligans Wendy would've blown off her ex-masters advisor and I wouldn't have wound up weeping in Shinjuku station. Enjoy and drink tea.

In an effort to make our podcast resonate even less with the masses Wendy and I delve back into discussing Japanese anime. This time we are tackling the brilliant food anime & manga Shokugeki no Soma aka Food Wars! Instead of our usual formula where we discuss plot, art style, and voice acting we take a hard left and reveal what we believe the main characters' sexual preferences are.   Do Wendy and I think the lead character Soma gives off bi vibes? Wendy and I reminisce on some undergrad highlights; Halloween parties, 1st year room "parties", secret Santa mornings, and food comas. As Britta Perry would say "Feast your ears on these memory pops!" Drink tea and enjoy!!

If Wendy and I's teenage years was an episode of Shonda Rhimes' Scandal it would be in Season 1, and the most low stakes episode of the series. In this episode Wendy and I expose the most rebellious thing we ever did in our teenage years, and to nobody's surprise we reveal that we were the furthest thing from rebellious. Wendy goes on a forbidden year end cottage trip, and I go to an after prom party co-ed sleepover. Enjoy and drink tea!!

Wendy and I are back to discussing, dissecting and analyzing some of our favourite animation, this time it's the Netflix Original The Dragon Prince. We touch upon the shows highs and lows, our favourite characters, a few controversies*, and we speculate on possible directions future seasons could take. Enjoy and Drink Tea! *We recorded this before Netflix had confirmed a series pick up of 4 more seasons. Upon hearing the news I did some research to see if there was an update on the allegations against Aaron Ehasz and whether the misogynistic and toxic work environment of Wonderstorm Studios had improved since November (when the allegations were reported on). I was unable to find any update. In this episode Wendy and I recount the subtle, and at times blatant misogyny, harassment and sexism people have thrown our way, whether that's in our work life or dating life, and why most often times we've just rolled with it. Enjoy, and Drink tea!

It's been a minute since Wendy and I unearthed some childhood memories to divulge to one another. So in this episode Wendy relays a fond memory of Chinese New Year, and her valiant battle against a protective mother hen, while I dish on my younger brother's almost successful attempt at hosting a house party while our parents were out of town.  Small heads up: Wendy and I reference a "Growing Up Restrictions" episode a couple times in this, we decided to post this one first, the "Restrictions" episode will be released a bit later. In this episode Wendy and I discuss our individual searches for hair removal products that work best for our hair, and that were more sustainable then our Venus razors. For Wendy and her fast growing, dark and course hair an epilator. For me and my hard to see and grip hair a rechargeable compact razor. Enjoy and drink tea!

Wendy and I are still die hard DivaCup users, but Wendy took it upon herself to experiment with the Ziggy Cup and Reusable Pads to see if anything could dethrone the menstrual cup as our go-to period product. I on the other hand was perfectly content to sit back and let Wendy be the guinea pig, and instead provide some questioning. Enjoy and use sustainable menstrual products, and drink more tea!  

Wendy and I are thoroughly saddened that the theatrical release of Disney's live action Mulan has been pushed; to cope Wendy and I decided to analyze the trailers that have come out. Wendy brings some historical and cultural education to our analysis, while I just talk about how high my hype level is. Enjoy and drink more tea!  

Wendy and I set goals to try and read at least one book a month every year. Here's how it went down in 2019, and some hopes and dreams for 2020 (because so far all those other hopes and dreams have been destroyed). Here are some of our favourite reads, not so favourites, and recommendations!

Wendy and I continue to demonstrate what trash we have become for Makoto Shinkai as we finish up our discussion about his films Your Name and Weathering With You. We talk about character design and our favourite moments from each film. Enjoy and drink tea!

Trigger Warning: Wendy and I talk about the symbolism of suicide as it relates to one of the films at 33:00 - 36:00. In this episode Wendy and I become even more inaccessible to our small group of listeners as we talk about Makoto Shinkai's Japanese animated films Your Name and Weathering With You. There's no hiding it, we are TRASH for these movies. The plot, the mythology, the animation, the characters, GIVE IT TO US! In part one (that's right we're spending 2 weeks on a topic only 3 of you will listen to) we talk about our overall impressions of the film and other technical aspects of these films that made it so good. For this episode there are TRIGGER WARNINGS related to body image insecurities, eating disorders, and there may be some tears on my end. Wendy and I discuss when we started actively thinking about our bodies and weight, and how our insecurities have affected how we see ourselves now. Maybe you can also relate to some of our feelings on this topic, and can join in the discussion on how we can stop mental punishing ourselves just because of the way we look. Wendy finds herself abandoned by me, and recruits our friend and ex-roommate Galen, to discuss his current relationship milestones. We're talking the build-up to the "I love you" moment, the crucial moment of deciding when a person is right for you, making long distance work, and moving in together, it's all in this episode, and from the male perspective (something Wendy and I don't normally get voiced during our episodes). A small heads up to our listening audience, Galen and Wendy were crafting a Christmas present for Galen's girlfriend, so if it feels like there are large gaps from topic to topic, that's because I cut their purely crafting moments. In our second part of our Colombia and Mexico travel talk, Wendy and I discuss food highlights. Spoiler alert Wendy loved all the food, they are ALL highlights. I on the other hand was a little more selective. Enjoy! And drink more hot leaf juice!

We are back from our long winter hiatus, and kicking off 2020 with travel talks! In this two part series, Wendy and I revisit our most recent travel excursions to Mexico City and Colombia, respectively. In the first episode we talk about our sightseeing highlights, and how travelling with a local made these trips the easiest we've ever had (which isn't a revelation, but still a prime way to explore a new country). Wendy gave me the impossible task of picking two of my favourite movies to talk about and somehow she struggled more than I did. Enjoy this mess of an episode where we talk a lot about some of our favourite nostalgic movies. Minimal planning was done for this episode and we're only kind of sorry about it. There will be spoilers for movies that are over a decade old, so prepare yourselves. 

It's a FOOD EP! Wendy and I talk about foods and types of foods that we are not fans of and why. But as always, we try to end on a positive note, so we finish off the episode with a food(s) that we love.

After a prolonged hiatus, Wendy and I return to talk about how our relationships with our parents have changed as we have become full-fledged adults. We delve into how the stresses, fears, affections, and other feelings we had a kids have shifted now that we are much older and wiser. 

In this episode of Childhood memories, Wendy reveals her earliest memory which had to do with a shameful potty training incident. While I talk about the moment when my siblings and I purchase our first gaming system, and the choices one has to make with this kind of purchase. Spoilers it feeds into our already competitive Wattam nature, who could've seen that coming. Enjoy this very late episode (be honest you thought we were dead, didn't you?)

In this episode Wendy and I want to change the way people think about saying I love you to their partner for the first time. Also shout out to our friend Ben, our go-to source of stories from a hetero-male perspective. We love you Ben.

In this episode Wendy and I talk about some stresses that we are experiencing as young female adults in our mid 20s. We cover how babies, careers, education, family, and friends each bring a little bit of stress into our lives, and how we deal with it, and move on from it (or don't). 

In this episode Wendy complains to me about how she can't find any of the produce required for those Chinese home-cooked comfort food type dishes, and I roll my eyes at her inability to cope with the perfectly good grocery stores available in our Guelph.       

In our second instalment of our non-consecutive Childhood Memories series Wendy recounts a ball pit prank, while I reflect "fondly" on country yard chores, and compare one of my siblings to Kelso from, 'That 70s Show.' 

In this episode my sister Lauren makes a return to discuss STIs with Wendy and I. We touch upon misconceptions surrounding STIs, how to get tested and treated, and the impact it can have on females health. We also make a brief phone call to our friend Ben to get his perspective. That's right people we have like 5 friends and we are now starting to cycle back through them. 

In this episode Wendy is out of the country and has left me to run the podcast. So of course I've taken the opportunity to talk about film and pop culture. I've invited my friend Dan (@disney_dan on instagram) to discuss the impact Disney has had on his life, and to analyze the Disney Renaissance classic, 'The Little Mermaid' (I think there's a lot more Mermaid sex education discussion then Dan had anticipated). In this episode Wendy and our guest Lauren (another Wattam Sibling) discuss long distance relationships (LDRs). Both of them are in serious LDRs, and their conversation delves into their feelings and coping mechanisms for dealing with LDRs. I am in this episode, but never having been in an LDR, I provide very little substance to the topic at hand, and am basically just there to mediate the conversation, therefore if you find my voice distasteful, then this episode is for you!!

Wendy has proposed a non-consecutive series where we talk a little bit about our background and upbringing, and any childhood memories that vividly come to mind from our formative years. So if you're interested in getting to know us more then enjoy a story about a mother who does something nice for a beloved teacher, and a brief story of sister bonding during an Alaskan Road trip.  

In this episode Wendy and I discuss whether we want children, if our answer has changed over the years, and the different pressures surrounding this question.

Wendy and I conclude our Sex Talk with Parents series by interviewing 2 of my sisters, Nicole and Wendy, who both have children under 3. They tell me about their experiences getting the sex talk from their parents, and reflect on how they would want to inform their children about sex when the time comes.

Wendy and I interview our mothers about their memories surrounding receiving the sex talk from their parents, and discover why they may have distressed over giving their children one.   

Wendy and I continue our discussion on receiving sex education from parents and the education system. In this episode we talk with our friends Brandon and Ben to get a male perspective on getting the sex talk.

Kim and I talk about our experiences with having the sex talk with our parents, other resources available to us for sex ed, and how we would want to have sex talks with our kids (if we have kids). This is the first episode in a series of Sex Talk with Parents, where we interview friends, siblings, parents of friends, and our own parents about having the sex talk. In this episode Kim and I talk about our 2018 New Years Resolution, which was to read at least 1 book/month. We super succeeded and wanted to share our favourite and least favourite books/graphic novels with you guys. For the record, I read 20 novels in total (mix of fiction and non-fiction), and Kim read around 7-ish novels and maybe 25-ish graphic novels (she didn't keep track). Kim, Brandon and I all went to Asia (Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore) this past year. In this podcast we reminisce about our favourite meals/foods, our least favourite meals/foods, and why.
