Laura and Em dive deep into a topic that touches most of us at some point in our lives: first dates and the ultimate way to sabotage them! Inspired by Em’s recent failed first date experience involving a surprising horror film, they're compiling the definitive list of movies you should never watch with a new romantic prospect. You'll hear: The horror movie that killed the mood A rom-com that forces "the talk" The comedy that could make you hate men The ultimate anti-marriage movie This episode will have you laughing, nodding in agreement, and maybe even feeling a little wary of all men! But don't worry, we’ll try our hardest to suggest a movie that is actually nice about men.Don't forget to bookmark this episode for the next time you're planning a date! What do a Star Wars “making of” documentary, a UBC Film Society membership, and late nights at the Norm Theatre have in common? For UBC alum Greg Ng (BA'05), they sparked a passion for film editing that's turned into a fascinating career — one that's enabled him to work on some of the biggest Hollywood horror films of recent years. In this episode, Carol and Jeevan sit down with the award-winning film editor to trace his journey into the industry. From his work on chilling features like Longlegs and The Monkey to his shaping of compelling documentaries (The Grizzlie Truth, Saints and Warriors) and acclaimed TV series (Allegiance, Bones of Crows), Greg shares insights on storytelling through editing — and why the editor's role is one of the most powerful, yet invisible, in any production.LINKSContact CarolContact JeevanFrom Here ForwardGUEST & WORKGreg NgThe MonkeyLonglegsUBC Film Production Program (00:00) - Introduction (01:42) - – What Is Film Editing? RIP to our youth, 10 Things I Hate About You just turned 25 and we're not crying you are. Whilst the film might be best known for its cast (hellooo young Heath Ledger), something you might not know is there's a big mistake in that iconic scene that the filmmakers didn't cut. The pandemic and lockdowns haven't been kind to the film industry over the last few years, which has resulted in a real mixed bag of releases this year when it comes to movies. And while not every heavily promoted release ended up making the mark, there were some major winners as well, whether unexpected oddball hits like Everything Everywhere All At Once, blockbusters like Top Gun: Maverick, or streaming releases like Prey. As 2022 comes to a close, we look back at some of our favourite movies of the year and discuss why they made our respective Best Of lists.

With Matt on assignment, Chad is joined on this very special Weekend Awayisode by his lovely significant other Bobbie. Recorded in a hotel room in Sydney while drinking a bottle of Pink Moscato, the couple talk about their weekend away so far, Valentine's Day before diving into their Top 10 Favourite Movies of the 90's! It's been a while, so enjoy this Weekend Awayisode!
Well 2021 was another funny old year for the movies wasn't it?With cinemas closed for the first third of the year, premium video on demand became almost a given for most theatrical releases, whilst Netflix continued to deliver blockbusters and oscar-bait in equal measure. We saw the Marvel stretch the credibility of the MCU to it's absolute lengths with it's belated Black Widow film and highly inclusive Eternals, while on a happier note, Denis Villeneuve's Dune finally came out and people actually went to see it, despite it going on HBOMax day 1, meaning part 2 is now confirmed for 2023!More importantly though, which films made our Top 5s? All this and you know the drill... enjoy!Contact us on Email at: notwatchingpodcast@gmail.comFollow us on Twitter: @notwatchingpodYou can find all episodes at: https://shows.acast.com/61dc2bc83a030a0012ae34a4If you're listening on iTunes or Spotify, please give us a review! If you're interested in videogames why not check out the #NOTplaying podcast See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
