In this episode of Fine Tooning, Jim Hill and Drew Taylor reunite (despite a case of post-Annecy crud) to cover a wide range of animation and industry news, including: Disney officially announces Lilo & Stitch 2 after the live-action original crosses $945M globally. Elio holds better than expected with a solid second weekend as it climbs past $42M domestically. Live-action Tangled delayed to 2029, reportedly to make room for the Lilo & Stitch sequel. Warner Bros. loses the rights to Akira after years of development—setting the stage for a new studio to reimagine the cyberpunk classic. Laika's ParaNorman returns to theaters for Halloween 2025 as part of the studio's 20th anniversary celebration. Also in this episode: KPOP Demon Hunters debuts at #2 globally on Netflix, Broadway updates on Beauty and the Beast and Hercules, and what's really in those Dragon Flame-Grilled Whoppers at Burger King. It's a shorter episode while Drew recovers—but packed with news, box office insight, and some wild theme park popcorn bucket trivia. Be Our Guest Vacations Planning your next Disney vacation? 835 · "In or Out?" - Trilogies, Overlays, Lounges, Live-Action, Leadership & More! Are you In or Out? Is the Indiana Jones trilogy really Disney's best? Should Tower of Terror get a Halloween overlay? And is Josh D'Amaro the future CEO of Disney? That is just the beginning! This week, we dive into bold opinions and big questions about the parks, movies, cruise line, lounges, and leadership. From the Country Bear update to adult-only experiences, EPCOT's GEO 82, live-action remakes, the Grand Floridian's new lobby bar and much more... nothing is off the table. You might agree. You might not. That's the fun of it! So… are YOU in or out?
If you watched the janky oddity that is the 2017 Death Note movie or the Scarlet Johansson Ghost in the Shell that also came out in 2017 (what a tough year) this is the episode for you! Anime is massive and yet a successful live action adaptation of one that's as good as the source material seems harder to find than the one piece treasure (With One Piece being the exception that breaks the rule) . Jake explains why this is and we all analyze some of the attempts including Cowboy Bebop, the insanity that is the Wachowski's Speed Racer, and yes even Dragon Ball Evolution because we love entertaining you more than we respect ourselves.Want even more Nerd of Mouth? Today Ben dives into the Viking World of Berk to discuss the Live Action How to Train Your Dragon! Live-action remakes don't exactly have the best track record—some hit, most miss, and many leave us wondering… why even bother? But somehow, How to Train Your Dragon pulls off the near-impossible: staying almost exactly the same as the original and being completely worth it. In today's video, we're breaking down why this remake works where others—like The Lion King, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast—struggled. From honoring the animation, to understanding live-action as its own format, to the return of Gerard Butler in bear cape glory... this movie might've just set a new standard. And speaking of confusion (perhaps from all the excitement!), Host Eddie, in the spirit of recent scheduling mayhem, decides to put the other hosts to the ultimate test. Get ready for a fun and perplexing game of "Guess the Movie from the Poorly Explained Plot!" Join us as we celebrate a truly successful live-action adaptation and a hilarious challenge of cinematic deduction! Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of June 13, 2025. The excellent live-action remake of "How to Train Your Dragon" benefits from strong casting, the iconic musical score remaining largely unchanged, and the incorporation of additional characters. Fans of the animated movie and subsequent streaming series should be pleased. Producer KellieAnn Halvorsen even offers her own review for the live-action film on today’s episode, after Andy finishes his “What to watch?” segment. Also out is "Materialists;” this one is a thoughtful look at relationships and marriage in the modern age, and poor Dakota Johnson, having to choose between Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal. And a new Western movie offers a change of pace, with Samuel L. Jackson and Pierce Brosnan starring in "The Unholy Trinity." For streaming, there's also a new film on Apple TV+ called "Echo Valley," starring Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney, but the characters were too unlikable for Andy. But Andy did enjoy the new movie "Deep Cover" over on Prime Video much more, but he didn't get to watch it in time to include it in this segment. The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisode taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics. Based in the beautiful beehive state, Fan Effect celebrates Utah's unique fan culture as it has been declared The Nerdiest State in America by TIME, and is hosted by KSL Movie Show's Andy Farnsworth and KSL Podcasts' KellieAnn Halvorsen.
