Messages from Painesville Assembly of God

In the early pages of the Scriptures, a core claim is made about the universe, and alongside it we find a mandate for humanity. Simply put: “Everything in the world belongs to God, and we are stewards of all he's put in it.” In this message, we explore the Christian's identity as a steward, which underpins Jesus' invitation to the generous life.

“The more you get, the more you want.” Few truths cut more deeply across the breadth of the human experience. No matter how much money or stuff we amass, we never feel like we have enough. The bulk of Jesus' teachings on money are warnings about the danger of it. In this message, we explore Jesus' warnings about wealth and His invitation to a simpler life marked by the biblical virtue of contentment.

Jesus' call to generosity is rooted in his vision of God and our place in God's world. In Jesus' teaching on a “healthy eye” vs. “an unhealthy eye” (Matthew 6:22-23), we are introduced to two strikingly different worldviews or ways of seeing the world. When Jesus said there is more joy in giving than in receiving, he turned our vision of the good life on its head. In this message, we discover that through the practice of generosity, we tap into God's joy.

Hypocrisy is giving an impression of having certain purposes or motivations, while in reality having quite different ones. It was a problem for the religious leaders in Jesus' day, and it is a problem for followers of Jesus today. In this message, we look at the warning that Jesus gave to his followers regarding hypocrisy and discover the cure he prescribes.

Should we be afraid of God? In our world today, there is a growing system that dismisses the very notion that there is a God to whom we are accountable and will one day stand before. In this message, we discover two dangerous postures when it comes to the fear of the Lord.

The fear of the Lord is an invitation to be in complete awe and reverence towards the Lord and His glory, power, and holiness. To truly fear God means to be in awe of God's being and character as well as in awe of what He has done for us in Christ. In this message, we explore how to recover our awe of the Lord.

The fear of the Lord is a treasure. It is a virtue that unlocks for us a greater understanding of who God is and draws us into deeper friendship with Him. In this message, we explore how Holy Fear is a treasure that deepens our relationship with God.

David's life was filled with faith and failure, but at the end, He discovered that God was His refuge, strength, and salvation. He penned a song that summarized what the Lord meant to Him. We explore that song and discover David's testimony, poetry, and theology.

David's sin didn't just affect him, it impacted his entire family. While he was forgiven of the penalty of sin, David still experienced the disciplinary consequences of sin. In this message, we examine the painful consequences of sin and look at what David could have done to break the cycle in his family.

Out of the stories that remember when thinking about King David, we can't help but recall the story of David and Bathsheba. David commits adultery and murder and tries to cover it up. In this message, we discuss the power of sin and we discover the grace of God.

Have you ever wanted to do something but felt that the Lord said no? Perhaps it was something you were praying for and a idea that you, but for whatever reason, God said, no. David experienced God's no, and from it we can learn some valuable lessons.

Have you ever done the right thing, but maybe went about it in the wrong way? That is what happened to David and the consequences were deadly. But David learned some valuable lessons about the holiness and grace of the Lord.

What made David a man after God's own heart? In this message, we survey the opening chapters of 2 Samuel and discover qualities that make a person after God's own heart.

You were meant for so much more than you realize when you came to Christ in faith. You were called to have a powerful and personal relationship with Him. God desires to walk with us in a personal way, and not just through religious acts of service. His desire for us to know Him is far more than just words in the Bible. David faces a season of discouragement where he lost faith. No prayers prayed, no psalms written, no seeking God's direction. In fact, David headed down a path of reasoning that took him far from God. But through pain, God brought David back. In this message, we explore three faulty perspectives that lead to the pits and what we can do to make our way back to God!

David had a moment that we have all experienced. He was treated unjustly, and it made him so angry, he was about to do something he would later regret. But God's restraining grace came to David through the wise counsel of Abigail. In this message, we explore three reasons for not acting rashly when you are emotionally upset.

Where's your sense of adventure? The Holy Spirit empowers God's people onto supernatural works and a life we cannot do in our own abilities. This takes shape through a life connected to Jesus as we respond in faith and obedience. Joshua Chapter 6 gives us an account of God's people being moved forward to their promised land by a miraculous event only available to them through that same supernatural power and the pattern we see most often used. In this message we will look at 3 principle ways we see God work as we broaden our sense of adventure for his glory.
