Your new favourite late night radio program digging into the dark corners of the internet for underground, indie, and experimental music, with deviations into existential introspection.
Self care is tossed around a lot as a thing we should all be doing but I'm curious to know if there's something deeper behind it.
A very strange part of adult life is leaving the first decade of adulthood behind. Theatre artist and writer Laura Fukumoto joins me to talk about turning the big 3-0. Music from Orso Jesenka, Kingdom of the Holy Sun, and Girl with the Gun
Today's show is all about making friends. We've been talking about friends generally on the YouTube channel, but I wanted to dive a little deeper into how a lot of us end up in a place in life without the friendships we need or would like, and there are things we can do about it. Music by Parov Stellar, Moonwood, Dumbo Gets Mad, Rrrrrrrose Wreck
One of the strangely most difficult things to do as a human adult, is making friends. Once we're past the artificial environments of school (and sometimes work), it's unusually hard sometimes to make and keep friends. Riffing off the YouTube Channel video last week, I talk about some ways that are relatively easy to make friends. Music this week is by: CJ Lavoire, Frozen Teens, Podington Bear, and Ayoroyoko (me)
Recovery can mean a lot of things. For me it's been pretty specifically about recovery from alcohol but it's also been about recovering from the pain of being a human being. Whatever the thing you are recovering from might be, there's things that can help anyone heal. Music from: Ayoroyoko (that's me!), Father Sleep, Antoine Leonpaul, and Ratas En Zelo.
Welcome to Human Suit- the podcast for discussing the strangeness of being a human being. This is just a short little introduction to me, the podcast, and some tunes to keep us from spiraling off into outer space. Music by Begemot, The Bird and the Monkey, and Aden Ray
We're checking in after quite a long break- once again, not because we haven't been talking but because life has been real, and Nick was slow to get the show up :| We'll have another show up soon!
After a little hiatus, we're back and there's been some movement in our lives that we get to discuss. We discuss being trashed on the internet and Nick as a teenager. CW: We have a conversation about sexual assault allegations in broad terms from about the 10 min- 15 min mark.
This week we talk about whether "inner worlds" are a thing, how easy it is to take too much on, and also what we're afraid as Humans Dealing with Stuff.
It's been a little bit but Nick and Jeanne are back and now that Nick is finished Game of Thrones, it's time to see if this is the argument that breaks the podcast/friendship. (Obvs, spoilers but like Nick was the last person to see this shown probably). Most of our conversation however is knowing when to trust yourself
This week Nick and Jeanne fess up and let you in on what they've been talking about, as well as talk about writing projects, the pressures of invisible labour in relationships, and codependency.
In this episode, Jeanne and Nick uncover some more of what brought them to where they are now
Jeanne drove 140 miles for a date so we debrief and talk about what it means to put it all on the line. CW: There is a brief conversation about suicide around the 55 minute mark
In this first episode, Jeanne and Nick "meet." Nick made an "ad" of sorts on a dating website to look for friends (no, really!) and Jeanne responded. Jeanne lives in Ohio. Nick lives in British Columbia, Canada. Jeanne said they should correspond and Nick joked they should FaceTime and podcast their conversations. Jeanne agreed so here we are. This is their first conversation.
Today on the show, one woman force-of-nature Tricia joins me to talk about the "so now what" of recovery. As an entrepreneur and person in recovery, Tricia saw a need for some place to talk about what to do once you get over the initial hurdle of sobering up and started the hugely popular Recovery Happy Hour podcast, which has now begun its first series of online sober "happy hours," where people you don't drink can cut the small talk and connect meaningfully with each other. If that wasn't enough, Tricia also pioneered the first ever Sober by Southwest event in Austin this year, and has plans for a whole lot more.
When Grace and I used to work together, we would have sprawling long conversations that usually resulted in us trying to figure out how to save the world. In this conversation we end up there but we also cover what feminism means to different people, particularly African Feminism, as well as the journey of a girl from Ghana who wanted to see change and ended up in Switzerland working for the UN and is now about to embark on her next adventure.
Today I'm talking about digesting some sad news, as well as coming to terms with the fact that I might be a little intense. Plus music from Dumbo Gets Mad and the Bird and the Monkey!
The last time artist Clare Yow was on the show, we talked about what got her into art in the first place, which was somewhat of an unlikely thing to begin with. We pick up where we left off and talk about how a somewhat shy kid learned to embrace her Chinese heritage and cast aside self doubt to become a full time artist. We talk about the importance of making art with one's community and being a good neighbor, as well as her new solo show 'Common Wealth,' which opens April 11 in Vancouver. Find more of Clare's art here: https://www.clareyow.com/
Less talkies, more walkies! This week there's music from Paper Navy, James Dangerous, Black Math, CJ Lavoire, and more!

As we hurdle through the deep expanse of space/time, we might as well flow along with some good tunes! This week we've got some Dumbo Gets Mad, Antione Leonpaul, The Wiggy Blotters, Lee Rosevere, and even some Bach!
The end of a long week means a trek into portrayals of apocalypse. With music from The Bird and the Monkey, Francis Arevalo, Bad Panda, Be Cool Cowboy, Pete Murphy and more!
A little bonus groove for the early adopters and inner space sojourners.
Lots of metaphors about digging and dark rooms but with a hopeful twist.
Tanya Mathivanan is no stranger to taking on interesting theatre choices and today she returns to talk about her next play 'The How and The Why" We get into how the show came about, what it's like putting science on the stage, the relative lack of generational exploration in theatre, and how theatre projects all come together. You can get tickets here
This week I'm joined by two guests: Carolina and Kari, both of whom do work in and around education. We go a little big picture, trying to define what makes an educator, who has influenced them, and of course, can anyone teach?
Joe Planta has been doing podcasts since before you even knew what podcasts were. Now, fifteen years in, he talks about why he keeps doing it, why he'd like to stop, and some of the things he's learned over his tenure talking to people. There's some great moments with iconic Canadians as well, including talking with Cathy Jones while she was testing out beds. Find all episodes of Planta on the Line here: http://thecommentary.ca/
Today I sit down with notable independent Vancouver theatre-maker and actor Christine Quintana. Christine always has a lot of things on the go so we talk about writing, writing grants, where it all started for her, and how theatre needs to change. You can keep up with all her work here: https://christinequintana.ca/
Things have been going okay lately and the reason is a little odd. I've been embracing boredom with some surprising results.
Sabrina and I sit down and talk about comics and life and where they intersect. Sabrina's comics cover eveything from karate to weight-lifting, trans-identity to Jurassic Park. Sabrina is on a mission of open hearted honesty that captures what so many feel and think but rarely feel confident enough to tell the rest of the world. Life of Bria the Web Comic
I talk this week about losing my mind over trivial junk. And how that's finally something I'm aware of.
Some of you may remember the story of a Canadian race walker in the 2016 Rio Olympics who had a chance to appeal for a bronze medal but instead chose to let his opponent have it. We go into all the particulars of that race but also discuss the realities of training, being an athlete for a living, as well as why Evan is far from done his journey.
It's easy to focus on what you're not doing but today I'm talking about the other way- and there is one! Also some new music from me tacked on at the end.
God, it's hard to admit to being courageous, isn't it? So let's do the work!
After some reflection around toxic masculinity, I've got some thoughts about what's behind everything: fear.
I'm back and I'm talking about what's been going on for me, falling out of routines, and just trying to keep moving forward.
Today on the show, the continuation of my talk with Asher Isbrucker, or, what happens when I leave the mics rolling. Enjoy!
Today on the show I'm talking with Asher Isbrucker, a guy who loves video, film, nostalgia, and making stuff. We talk about the pitfalls of perfectionism, the joys of old stuff, and the limitations placed on people who are "multi-interested."
After a little impromptu hiatus, I'm back to talk about taking breaks, being kind, and admitting that sometimes you just need to acknowledge that you've survived.
Back after a time away writing and healing, CR Packer returns to the show to talk about new projects, new outlooks, and what to do in the face of overwhelming bad.
Fresh back from Ontario, I have some reflections and observations about politics in this country right now. Minimal political rants.
Today on the show I'm talking about the Queer Arts Festival in Toronto, some new projects, and a some suburban musings.
The last time Travis was on the show, we talked about the tale of how he essentially grew up on the track to be in the Seminary. But right as he was being groomed to move through the ranks, he left. This is the story of what happened after, including sex, drugs, and dealing with his ultra religious family.
I'll be honest, this is kind of just a series of rambles as my heart and brain recover from some long and deep chats.
