Assata Moore is that rare, gifted, and generous educator who is uncommonly successful at helping students (melanated or not) enjoy the power of mathematics to make life, in school and beyond, successful and rewarding. Here is the link to Assata's BLACK MATH GENIUS online course. On sale in the month of February at a 62% savings. In 2017, Assata retired from her district-level position at the University of Chicago's Urban Education Institute. Before that position, Assata spent five years as a high school principal. In 2009, under the Obama Administration, Assata received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. My name is nini white, I was a teacher for over 20 years, and now I am the One White Teacher of this podcast, seeking out meaningful conversations with Black people, so that all of us can, little by little, know each other better, so that we can undo the miseducation that has separated with racist policies and systems, that really only hurt all of us. Thank you for sharing these learning experiences with me. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/onewhiteteacher/message

A cluster of enclaves in Missouri faces annihilation at the hands of a massive horde of the undead. Their only hope is to prepare for war, a job for their preeminent taker crew, the D4s. Led by a (reform) Black Math cultist, the crew drives an armored vehicle, the Dragula, so they focus exclusively on taking scores. They need to build up their warchest of assets to use against the horde if they want to stand a chance. Their first score involves retrieving a cache of weights in a gym, but the building has partially collapsed into a nearby river. What lurks beneath may spell their doom. Many factors may lead teachers to leave the field. But why, under certain circumstances, are teachers of color more likely to leave the profession that their white colleagues? In a new study coauthored by George Mason University's Toya Jones Frank and Marvin Powell, a team of researchers surveyed hundreds of Black math educators across the U.S., gauging their perceptions, experiences and feelings about the profession. Frank and Powell join CPRE Knowledge Hub managing editor Keith Heumiller to discuss their findings, and offer some valuable recommendations for districts, policymakers, schools and other stakeholders hoping to better retain and support Black educators.
This week I did another album review on The White Stripes' album Elephant. It was a fun episode to record and has one of my favorite songs ever in it as the Y. The beat to the song is so well known it became a sports chant. Additionally, I go over Black Math and Ball and Biscuit plus two more songs. Cam Lofstrand is a musician and illustrator/graphic designer who you've probably seen on a stage near you in one of his many, many bands over the years. Cam's played as either the guitarist or drummer for Black Math, Fruits & Veggies, The Sisters, Ex-Con, Feast of Famine, Hadeda, Taekwando Sleepover, and probably a few other bands that I've forgotten. Not only that, but he regularly designs some of the sickest posters, and records a number of underground bands in his home studio, whilst holding down a 9-5 at Disturbance. Cam's importance to the Durban and South African music scene is unparalleled, and yet he's incredibly bashful whenever you throw him a compliment. We get into Star Wars, how important it is to have support as a creative youngster, growing up in a religious household and becoming atheist, what drives him to create SO MUCH, and we dive into the recent history of the Durban music scene through his many bands. https://almostperfect.co.za/ep-25-cam-lofstrand/

Eryk Pruitt joins us to discuss King's 1984 short story "Mrs. Todd's Shortcut" from SKELETON CREW. In this story, we learn about the divide between the summer people and locals in Castle Rock and where exactly this magical town might be found on a map of Maine. Also, did King subtly hint at his future evolution into bulky books early on in this tale? All of that and more in the last CRR of the year. I am very pleased to announce the Live Music Podcast Facebook page has surpassed the 100 mark. Thanks to everyone for joining up and helping me reach this goal! I am now one step closer to having more fans than the pickle.I've been wanting to feature a White Stripes concert for some time but especially after I watched their recent concert documentary Under Great White Northern Lights. If you have yet to see this I very highly recommend it. The film follows Jack and Meg White on their tour across Canada, making a stop at every single province and territory. There are lots of great behind the scenes footage included and the amazing live performances that you would expect so go rent or buy it now!The concert that I will be featuring was captured on the grounds of the 2007 Bonnaroo Festival and will featuring many of the songs as in the movie since both occurred during the same year. It's amazing to me how they are able cram the large number of songs into this show and with very little filler. This has to make it one of the most intense concerts as 2 people can ever hope to put together and so I give to you The White Stripes.Take the Live Music Podcast listener survey here!
