When the Board of Directors comes into the American Angus Association office, it's a week full of productive meetings and extra energy all around. This episode gives a behind-the-scenes peek at some of the high-level conversations the 17 breeders from across the United States had in St. Joseph, Mo. From the growing value differentiation in feeder calves to data submission and the role of Angus Genetics Inc., they covered a lot of ground. Guests Jim Brinkley, Brinkley Angus Ranch; Jerry Connealy, Connealy Angus Ranch; and Alan Miller, Prairie View Farms; join hosts Mark McCully and Miranda Reiman to provide the recap. HOSTS: Mark McCully and Miranda Reiman GUESTS: Jim Brinkley, Brinkley Angus Ranch; Jerry Connealy, Connealy Angus Ranch; and Alan Miller, Prairie View FarmsGUEST BIOS:Jim Brinkley was born and raised in northern Missouri on his family's farming operation. Today, the family's diversified farming operation near Milan is made up of more than 1,300 acres and 400 registered Angus cows. Brinkley has hosted Brinkley Angus-influence feeder-calf sales and often places customer cattle into feeding programs where their calves are rewarded for the added value bred into the bulls that sired the calves. Brinkley is serving as Chairman of the Commercial Programs committee. Jerry Connealy is a fifth-generation cattleman who has operated the family ranch near Whitman, Neb., since 1981 with his wife, Sharon. The Connealys have three sons, Jed, Gabriel and Ben; as well as a daughter, Hannah, and can often be found with grandkids close by. Jerry focuses his cow herd base on productivity traits and manages two bull sales per year, selling 300 bulls at each. Connealy is the current Association president. Alan Miller, Gridley, Ill., is a third-generation Angus breeder. His grandfather, Adam Schlipf, began an Angus cattle herd in the late 1940s and was active in the purebred Angus business through the 1960s. Forty years ago, Miller's parents, Orlan and Carol Miller, began revitalizing the Angus herd and named the operation Prairie View Farms (PVF). PVF is a family operation that Alan and his wife, Theresa, operate in close cooperation with brother-in-law and sister Brandon and Cathy Jones. Miller is serving as Angus Genetics Inc., (AGI) chairman. Please Support the show @patreon.com/benbankas Cathy Jones is an 18 time Gemini Award winning actress, comedian, writer and one of the co-creators of This Hour Has 22 Minutes. Ben and Cathy go on a journey for truth in there 2-hour discussion which was the first time they spoke in person. Cathy reached out to bed in early April after seeing a few of Ben's Doug Ford dubs. From 5G to V*xxx and the stupidity of society, they pretty much cover anything. Comedy is our last line of defense and these two comedians have the power to bring truth to light through humor and intellect. Ben also does a 45 minute hilarious intro, complaining about calling his LIberal MP, Christia Freeland and speaking to her parliamentary assistant for 2 hours. Ben also dissects a few CBC articles and talks about a Facebook feud he's having. A truly awesome episode. Enjoy!

Tonight, we connect with Lillian Lake, who cared for her mother, grandmother and cousin and currently cares for her husband. In addition, Lillie Fuller and Cathy Jones will tell us about the chats on CareGiving.com. About Lillian Lillian is a Community Visionary. Besides defending her daily jolt of java, she staunchly advocates for several important political and social causes all rooted in an ideal of finding compassionate responses. She started her own business connecting farmers with communities and working on food policy. Through this work, she learned about human trafficking and soon chose to educate on human trafficking. In the mix she has raised a family and filled the role of caregiver to her mom when the “sandwich generation” was more of an idea, rather than the norm. A couple of months after her mom's passing, she helped as caregiver for her husband's grandmother. A few years later, she left her business, community, and family to take care of her cousin who was dying from cancer. Today she is caregiver to her spouse. Some people dub her “caregiver to the world”. She claims she is an accidental caregiver. What she's learned is the power of compassion which she emphasizes in her organizing, writing, and presenting. Currently Lillian writes a weekly newspaper column, a weekly blog, and is writing a book expressing her caregiver roles through the power of angels, as well as including interviews of other caregivers. Lillian serves on several community boards and task forces. Over a cup of coffee or glass of wine, she often will wax into issues of human rights and food. She enjoys reading, running, Pilates and visiting museums. Check out her website at lillianlake.com. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/caring-conversations/message

Well hello there strangers, it has been awhile. Before you ask, the answer is yes, we missed you too. Let's just forget about the long absence and get right into it, shall we? This week we watched 1999's The Haunting. We regretted getting back into podcasting shortly after the credits rolled. This is not a good movie, but it's not without its...charms(?). What we recommend is getting real loose on prescription painkillers, climbing into your bathtub with your clothes on and listening to us discuss Cathy Jones, the many "Wows" of Owen Wilson, and Crayola crayons. Editor's note: This movie is no longer available to stream on Netflix but it was at the time of recording. Also, Josh is now aware that despite his claim, "The Strangers" is rated R, not PG-13. Please don't forgive him. Download and stream the episode here, on iTunes here, or on Stitcher here. Thank you for listening! The song playing at the end of the episode is "The Carousel" by Jerry Goldsmith. You can buy it here. Contact the show at netflixkillpodcast@gmail.com.
