For those that don't, there may come a time to shut it down. Here are some key points to consider in shutting down a startup: Before announcing the shutdown, collect all accounts receivable. Sell any inventory left on hand. Notify investors first so they are aware. Notify employees and give them their last pay date. Notify your customers of the transition to a new service or program. Liquidate all assets. Pay taxes and payroll withholding. Pay off outstanding debt as much as possible. File IRS forms related to employment tax. Close the bank account. Dispose of any remaining assets. This may include patents, trademarks, and other intellectual property, as well as physical assets. Finally, dissolve the legal entity. The shutdown process can take some time as each of the steps above requires time to complete. Consider these steps in shutting down a startup. It’s fair to say that I had no idea that a society which likes to lock all of our troubles away, was now releasing many youthful offenders into different types of therapeutic settings, which take various forms.  This phenomenon has been going on for the last twenty years as one state after another has shuttered its youth prisons and stopped trying youth as adults, except in extreme cases.  The number of children locked in cages has dropped by 75 percent.  Nell Bernstein, author of “In Our Future We Are Free”, explains the forces that moved our society from one most concerned about “juvenile superpredators” to a time in which the youth prison is rapidly fading from view.  Interestingly, much of the dynamism behind this movement came from the young people left in horrific conditions within these facilities, as well as some prison administrators who themselves were concerned by the treatment of these young offenders.

Pittsburgh's largest, oldest newspaper is shutting down. The Post-Gazette will publish its last issue and cease operations on May 3. Its owners, Block Communications, Inc., say they've lost hundreds of millions of dollars over the past 20 years, and their decision comes after they lost a legal battle against the Newspaper Guild. Andrew Conte, managing director of Point Park University's Center for Media Innovation, joins host Megan Harris to talk about what we know so far and their hopes for the future of Pittsburgh media. -OpenAI is launching a new feature that will allow users to connect medical records and wellness apps to ChatGPT in order to get more tailored responses to queries about their health. -Apple announced that JPMorgan Chase will be the new issuer for the Apple Card. According to the tech company, the transition to the new provider should take about two years to complete -Ubisoft is closing a Canadian studio just over two weeks after it unionized.
