Alison Grant joins us for a special episode that offers the other side of story from her husband Scott who joined us earlier this season. Alison shares from a fresh perspective the extraordinary yet relatable journey of parenting and juggling life's unexpected changes. She shares some of the practical adaptation she's made in homeschooling each of her six children while tracing the trajectory from sacrificing personal dreams to witnessing them evolve into something greater. Alison's story is woven with themes of faith, hope, and the power of humor in parenting. We talk about embracing new stages of life, the importance of remaining fluid with one's goals, and how God often supersedes our dreams with His larger plans. Alison's stories of personal growth, alongside her children's remarkable ventures from homeschooling to impacting lives globally, embody the spirit of extraordinary living in ordinary life. This episode is not just a testament to the Grants' enriching journey but also serves as a beacon of encouragement for parents navigating the exhilarating challenges of raising children to thrive beyond expectations. 00:00 Embracing Life's Evolving Goals and Dreams 00:42 Welcome to the Be Unbound Podcast with Alison Grant 02:24 Alison Grant: A Journey of Extraordinary Parenting 05:56 Navigating the Unpredictable Path of Homeschooling 08:09 Balancing Career, Parenting, and Personal Growth 15:08 Finding Joy and Lessons in Life's Unexpected Turns 23:12 Letting Your Children Dream Bigger Than You Imagined 25:18 Embracing Life's Seasons and Pursuing Dreams 26:13 The Joy of Sacrifice and Simple Living 26:47 Redefining Goals: A Spiritual Perspective 27:42 Passion and Flexibility: The Napkin Philosophy 28:42 Family Influences: Sharing Interests and Dreams 29:55 Unexpected Adventures and Parental Influence 30:58 Navigating Challenges with a Positive Attitude 32:30 A Lesson in Adaptability and Teamwork 35:20 Concluding Thoughts on Faithfulness and Hope 40:35 Reflecting on Capstone and the Power of Hope 43:48 The Unbound Experience: Growth, Community, and Hope Learn more about Unbound: https://beunbound.us/ Hosts: Jonathan Brush, David Rethemeyer Producer: Kyle Hill
In this episode, Shellee, Natalie, and Alison discuss: Getting rid of the noiseThe importance of values to teenagers Choosing the learning modality that works best for your teenSetting priorities and practicing self-care Key Takeaways: Get rid of the noise – take the time to reflect on who you were before the pandemic and what changed during it, then assess your skill sets. Skills can become invaluable tools in chaos when they're identified in the calm time.In spite of anything life throws your way, if you follow your values and know what drives and lights you up, you'll remain motivated and regain your self-identity.Choosing online schooling is fine, but it's always about finding what works for your teen and something that won't deprive your teen of social interaction and opportunity at some point in the future. Plan ahead to determine what your teens' ultimate goals are and take steps to reach them.Make time for yourself by setting priorities and only doing what you're passionate about - having a lot of gifts or being good at a lot of things is not worth it if they don't bring you joy or aren't rewarding for you, and you feel overwhelmed. “It is worth your time and energy to explore and figure out your skill sets before you jump into a very expensive four to six years, depending on what your path is.” — Alison Grant “If we don't have an answer about how it lights them up… then it may not be the thing that they should be doing.” — Natalie Borrell About Natalie Borrell: Natalie is the founder of Life Success for Teens. She has been an Academic Life Coach and School Psychologist for 15 years and enjoys working with students who work hard but still struggle, students who need a confidence boost, and students who are unsure of their next steps after high school. About Alison Grant: Alison is a family consumer Science teacher in her 20th year. She decided to pursue a Master's degree in Administration as well as school counseling in order to help explore a teen's ability to grow as a student in order to achieve their personal and academic best. She enjoys helping students in discovering their strengths and passions, as well as preparing teenagers for their next step in life by exploring and planning career and college options. It has always been tough to be a teenager, which has been exacerbated by the COVID pandemic and schooling at home for long periods. Teens are struggling more with their mental health than ever, which means they need more support and guidance in this area than ever. But teens aren't always open to talking with their parents about the hard stuff, or talking to anyone about it. In this episode of the Parenting ADHD Podcast, Natalie Borrell & Alison Grant of Life Success for Teens share the stress and anxiety they are seeing today in their school and among their clients. They also offer tips and strategies to help teens who are struggling.

Nabbing the perfect greeting card has become a lot more important during Covid-19. Thousands of us have missed out on wishing that special someone a Happy Birthday in person. We've not been able to celebrate weddings the way we would have wanted to. We've had to watch important life moments like new babies, job promotions and house moves happen for our loved ones, but from afar. One small Irish-owned printing company is changing with the times however, and has created specific, memorable and quite gorgeous greeting cards to say all you want to, even if you can't be there. Alison Grant from She Designs He Prints, joined Alison Curtis on Weekend Breakfast to chat about her design and print company and how they have adjusted their business in these Covid times. Huge thanks @TodayFM and @ChampionGreenie for having Alison on to chat about SheDesignsHePrints this morning. Great support for small business at a really tough time, hats off to you guys! Natalie Borrell of Life Success for Teens That’s what we all want for our teens, isn’t it? Well, have you ever thought about having a coach for your teen? To help them deal with anxiety, fear of loss, and fear of rejection? Sure, all parents would like to be the person their teen turns to for help with these things, but what if you’re not? What if your teen doesn’t want you to be the one to help them deal with their test anxiety, presentation skills and how to talk to their teachers? It might be a hard pill to swallow, but remember what we say in The Biggest Job Workshops: “Humility is one of the most important qualities in parenting.” This podcast with Natalie Borrell, a school psychologist, and Alison Grant, a teacher with a license in counseling, of Life Success for Teens, (www.lifesuccessforteens.com) gives us insight into teenage anxiety and some great tips for dealing with it. They can also be found on Facebook at Parents Raising Successful Teens – a free community group.
