Dr. Richard Haier is an emeritus professor of Pediatric Neurology at UC Irvine, who spent his career studying the neuroscience of intelligence. Over the course of his career, Haier has come to believe in the existence of a “g-factor,” a measurable quantity of broad spectrum intelligence that is universally predictive of success in all cultures. He also believes that intelligence is a fixed characteristic, and that it's possible to predict someone's intelligence by watching how their brain works when trying to solve a puzzle. We sit down with him to figure out how far one can take this theory of intelligence before running headlong into a heartless social darwinism, why intelligence research feels so creepy, if IQ tests are actually measuring what we think they're measuring, if intelligence is really the thing that we should be optimizing for, and if it's possible for technology to make us dumber. Despite being stricken with what feels like (but isn't… probably) bird flu, I finally managed to get around to addressing a rather interesting query from LRFotS Randale6, who wrote in to ask about the monumental illiteracy and idiocy of Clown World: Didact, looking into the history of commies and world war two I find this, the death of Patton is essentially a commie masterminded assassination (nearly killed by a cart two times before the third attempt finally does it, across two continents). At least from what I was reading on Unz Patton had planned to do a political tour of America to expose communism and push the population to both oust the commies at home (FDR and his cronies were effing commies, where is Pinochet when you need him) and finish off the Soviet Union while it still lacked nukes. This brings up a question in my mind, are the clowns as historically and politically illiterate as we think they are or do they actually have a clue? On the face of it the hollowing out of the USA military doesn't make sense at all for a bunch of neocons hellbent on world domination. It does make sense though if those clowns don't think they can take over the world, rather they want to ensure that nothing domestically can pull a Caesar or Pinochet on their cockroach asses. The short version is: yes, they are that stupid. In fact, they are far more stupid than you can imagine. The longer version is, of course, in the podcast below. In it, I unpack this issue through an exploration of the ways in which Clown World denizens think. I have made a few simplifying assumptions, which are not actually particularly strong, starting with the notion that you can equate “clown world” with “neoclowns”, as they are basically one and the same (barring some minor factional differences). From that point, I examine the reality that neoclowns are astonishingly poorly educated, given their backgrounds in non-mathematical subjects that provide them with no intellectual toolkit whatsoever to permit an understanding of the true factors of military, economic, and political power. Using the Ossipov-Lanchester Equations as a starting point, I explain how no neoclown can possibly comprehend the complexities involved even with a relatively simple set of ordinary differential equations. I then use a recent article from arch-neoclown (and, evidently, Krispy Kreme enthusiast) Robert Kagan, one of the intellectual (*snerk*) leaders of the movement, to show just how fundamentally RETARDED these people are. This is the bit of the podcast where you can practically hear me doing my best to physically restrain myself, because his writing is a perfect example of the blithering idiocy and total incompetence of the neoclown paradigm. I wrap up by explaining that the reason why Clown World (which is to say, neoclown world) is so historically inept and stupid, is because their founding premise is completely wrong. They see America as an idea, not a nation, and because of this, they have zero connection to the American nation, and therefore to the inherent limitations that confront any nation which sponsors an empire. Reading List Randale6's Substack; The Russian Art of War by Col. Jacques Baud - superb book, very highly recommended; America's Final War by Andrei Martyanov - I got the name of the book wrong in the podcast, I mentioned Disintegration, which was his PREVIOUS book, my bad; The blindingly stupid article from Robert Kagan that got me all bothered in the podcast, to the point where I had to somehow restrain myself from yelling incoherently into the microphone; Support the War College If you like what I do, and you would like to express your appreciation, please feel free to do so here via my Buy Me a Coffee page. All funds go to upkeep of the site and podcast (well, whatever is left over after buying good Scotch, obviously…) Protect Yourself From Big Tech I make some pretty incendiary statements in this podcast, and in most of my podcasts. You need to do the same – this is no longer optional, because if you don't, the gatekeepers WILL come for your head. From The Vault:Private Investigators and Dealmakers are Teaming up More Often than Ever!We covered an unusual topic in this episode, that we learned wasn't so unusual afterall. Private investigations within the M&A space. As buyers and sellers become more leary of the trustworthiness between them during dealmaking, the advisory team is completing the circle of trust by having what they disclose verified. Our guest today is Tom Jaeb, Founder and Managing Director of JR Risk Advisors. Tom's background in private investigations goes back to working with his brother's PI firm in 1993. When that firm sold, he and his brother took a year off to honor the Non Compete and then launched J2 Risk Advisors. This time around, their sole focus is on M&A transactions, being hired by PE firms, Investment Bankers, and others in the Dealmaking space. They verify all kinds of information that has been disclosed, and watch for red flags in areas that could be missed by the untrained eye. You'd think that a credit report, courthouse search, and online search would bring up enough to make a case for or against a deal going through, but J2 digs deeper. They conduct research that examines the Press, Social Media, College Degrees, and other background sources as well.Tom says that most deals are free of 'red flag' items that would derail a transaction. However, he said that each search uncovers things that weren't necessarily discussed or disclosed, simply because the buyer or seller didn't think it was relevant. Say for instance a lawsuit settlement that the company was a party to 10 years ago. The key to deciding whether research and analysis are necessary is to determine if there are patterns of behavior or isolated incidents. When it's a pattern, it's a red flag, but if it's something that happened once many years ago, they're not going to be as concerned.Tom shared some intriguing client stories that you will find surprising! He said that Private Investigations during the dealmaking stages are more common than you think. The point about trustworthiness can be carried over from little things to big things; it's then up to the buyer or seller to decide whether to move forward.Listen to the episode here!Connect with Julie Keyes, Keyestrategies LLCFounder, Consultant, Author, Pod-caster and Instructor

Joining the show this weekend is UW Green Bay Professor and Chair of Democracy and Justice Studies, Dr. Jon Shelton and Human Rights Activist and older brother of your host, John Becker. Mark asks to dive into a publication Dr. Shelton published earlier this month: Why Democrats Are Losing Americans Without a College Degree—and How to Win Them Back, an article summarizing how voters know that the economy has not worked well for decades. Dr Shelton says Democrats must offer a transformative vision and stick to it for as long as it takes. He believes as a party the democrats aren't offering enough for working people and what happening is Americans are desperately voting for something to change. "We need working Americans to see what it is that they deserve and that the party is fighting for them and with them." It's not an idea that needs to be sold, its something to build toward together. How do we take a profoundly challenging question and talk to people with that integrity and hit them right between the eyes and make it make sense? We need to have a very clear narrative and message and stick to it. This is not the first time American's have faced dark times and Dr. Shelton believes we will make it through it. During Mark's Musings he dives into the big topic of why. Why did that happen? How can we avoid it happening again. How do you have a rational discussion when people live every day in a world that's so irrational? Join the discussion. Slippery Slopes: Economics, College Degrees, and Questionable Credentials

Mark and Jesse are back after a short break with a discussion about slippery slopes... real and imagined. Jesse delivers an epic rant on the uselessness of economists, while Mark talks about his hesistance applying for graduate school in order to obtain the Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist credential.   Mark presents his dillema: he wants the credential to "reduce friction" for clients when other service providers refer him (say, a divorce attorney that refers Mark to a couple for marraige counseling before going down the path of divorce). Calling yourself a family and marriage coach, Mark reasons, makes you have to explain yourself, whereas the title of therapist is self-explanatory. On the other hand, he already has a busy coaching practice doing the same thing that therapists do, so the actual value of the degree is questionable (and the cost is high, in both money and time).   Jesse has a different take. In his mind, any friction that not having the official "therapist" label might create goes away with a strong referral. As soon as the attorney refers a client specifically to Mark, trust is created and the work can take place. It's all about the strength of the referral.   This leads to a discussion about credentials as a form of permission seeking, and the pricing power of a provider who offers their services as a non-credentialed coach versus a licensed therapist. In many ways, the people who become therapists have what Mark calls permission seeking traits -- they jump through the hoops in school to get the letters after their name, and when they start their practice they look to the rates of other therapists and set their own somewhere in the middle. On the other hand, coaches often position themselves in a more niche area at a higher price point, and command much higher rates.   At the end of the day, credentials may be another one of those slippery slopes -- something with more perceived value than actual value in the marketplace.     Mark Butler The Money School: https://moneyschool.works https://markbutler.com https://letsdothebooks.com   YNAB https://www.youneedabudget.com
