Set against the backdrop of a historic time in Métis history, a young boy's disappearance begins a tense story of justice and defiance in Métis author Blair Palmer Yoxall's debut novel, “Treat Them as Buffalo“. It all takes place during the 1885 Northwest Resistance — a conflict between Métis and the Canadian federal government. When those entrusted to enforce the law turn a blind eye to a disturbing trend of disappearing Indigenous boys, the community members must take things in their own hands. The account is told from the perspective of young Niko, who comes to realize the difficult world of injustice his people are forced to endure. Dubbed an “anti-Western” by the author, it is both triumphant and tragic in its depiction of a time when the conquest of Indigenous peoples were celebrated as progress. Blair Palmer Yoxall joins us for our next Native Bookshelf discussion.

Jeff Bliss: California is currently contending with an early start to the wildfire season, a period dubbed Dirty August by experts. Jeff Bliss highlights three major blazes: the Timber Fire, the Bug Fire, and the MP 18 Fire. The Timber Fire in Monterey County has burned 5,600 acres and remains only 15 percent contained; its location along Highway 1 threatens picturesque tourist destinations such as Monterey and Carmel, creating significant infrastructure and tourism challenges. In contrast, the Bug Fire on the California-Nevada border is much larger at 95,000 acres but has reached a more stable 76 percent containment, a federal effort using specialized crews including smokejumpers and teams from Indigenous reservations. A newer threat, the MP 18 Fire in Humboldt County, is currently 14 percent contained, and its rugged, hilly topography near the Oregon border makes it difficult to access, likely requiring a massive mutual aid response involving resources from Oregon, Nevada, and California. Current environmental factors are heightening the danger, as steep canyons serve as chimneys that rapidly funnel flames upward through dense vegetation fueled by previous rains. Additionally, the super El Niño year presents a double-edged sword; while it can bring heat-inducing high-pressure systems that dry out the coast, the subsequent heavy rains on scorched terrain often trigger catastrophic mudslides and flooding. Firefighting agencies are mobilizing resources from across the United States and Canada to manage these unpredictable threats. (1)

Anatoly Zak recounts the July 1976 Soviet launch of the Salyut 5 mission, a secret military reconnaissance project camouflaged as civilian research. The mission, dubbed the "Keystone Cosmonauts," was plagued by accidents, including a truck blocking a fuel train and a failed automated docking system. Onboard, the crew faced extreme stress, power failures, and a mysterious illness that incapacitated one cosmonaut. These failures forced an emergency landing and a premature end to the expedition. Would You Risk Your Fingers for Fireworks… or Get Duct-Taped by a Vigilante? This Episode Gets Wild Fast :How far would you go for a thrill—lighting fireworks… or becoming the target of a real-life “Batman”? This episode of The JB and Sandy Show dives headfirst into chaos, comedy, and jaw-dropping stories you won't soon forget. From childhood fireworks debates to vigilante justice that sounds straight out of a movie, the crew delivers a rollercoaster of laughs and disbelief. It all starts with a hilarious and slightly terrifying take on Fourth of July traditions. Tricia kicks things off with the unforgettable line: “Someone in the United States has no clue that this is their last week with all ten fingers.” That sparks a lively debate about fireworks, wild childhood memories, and one dad's ridiculously low-budget “fireworks display” involving steel wool and string. It's equal parts funny and shocking—and sets the tone for everything that follows. The show keeps rolling with a local story that has listeners buzzing, as a beloved Austin dining spot gets a brand-new chapter—mixing nostalgia with excitement about what's coming next. Then things take a bizarre and fascinating turn during “Care, Don't Care,” where the crew reacts to an upcoming sequel to a beloved 80s film and dives into one of the strangest topics of the day—why people who eat certain undercooked mushrooms report seeing “hundreds of tiny people.” The reactions are priceless, ranging from curiosity to outright horror. But the moment that steals the show? A real-life mystery unfolding in Mexico. Dubbed the “Mexican Batman,” a vigilante is reportedly tracking down suspected thieves, binding them to lampposts, and leaving public warnings behind. It's shocking, surreal, and sparks a heated—and hilarious—conversation about justice, responsibility, and what people wish would happen to litterbugs closer to home. To cap it all off, the high-energy Minute to Win It game returns, where a truck driver calmly answers rapid-fire questions while hauling gravel—proving that multitasking under pressure can pay off in a big way. This episode is packed with unforgettable moments, including standout lines like:“That ain't no firework—that's steel wool tied to a string.”“Hundreds of tiny people… that's my worst nightmare.”“They're not getting off that lamppost.”If you love unpredictable conversations, laugh-out-loud storytelling, and a mix of real-life absurdity with everyday charm, this is one episode you don't want to miss.
Vinny from Belushi Speed Ball talks with Pipeman Radio about Milwaukee Metal Fest and their new album Toxic Waste Was Everywhere In The '80s" and the song All Pete's Exes" (Featuring Pete Lee) from their album. We also talked about how they make live shows really fun.Founded in 2013 in Kentucky, BELUSHI SPEED BALL began as a studio project between friends with a love for crossover thrash, satire, and complete nonsense. The band quickly built a reputation for interactive live performances, absurd merchandising ideas, and relentless DIY creativity.Dubbed “a freakshow of blistering thrash dedicated to laughing its ass off at blistering thrash” by MetalSucks and praised by Anthony Fantano as “one of the funniest fucking things I have heard this year,” BELUSHI SPEED BALL blend the energy of Municipal Waste, Anthrax, GWAR, and Toxic Holocaust into a uniquely chaotic spectacle that continues pushing the boundaries of what a thrash band can get away with. The band's latest collection of crossover thrash nonsense features artwork by Andrei Bouzikov and continues BELUSHI SPEED BALL's long-running tradition of turning nostalgia, chaos, and pit-starting riffs into a full-contact theatrical experience. From N64 album releases and Furby formats to Mad Max-style mobile performances and Nerf gun warfare, BELUSHI SPEED BALL remain one of underground metal's most unpredictable acts.“We are so excited to drop our strongest album to date! Toxic Waste Was Everywhere in the ‘80s is guaranteed to melt faces into a plutonium level pizza pit. For context: We will have to release a blank greatest hits album prior to this drop. We ain't had a hit yet, and this entire album will be nothing but banger hits after banger hits. In addition, we are proud to announce Belushi's newest additions: Bassist, Justin McClure and drummer, Ben Cotton (Rose Funeral, SIDS) will be joining the chaos for their recording debut. Making this LP a must have for any crossover thrash fan.” -Vinny Castellano (vocals)Belushi Speed Ball Lineup:Vinny Castellano – VocalsBrian Desper – Additional VocalsJamison Land – GuitarDerrek Tipton – GuitarNathan Rogers – GuitarJustin McClure – BassBen Cotton – DrumsPete Lee is a musician best known as the former guitarist Flattus Maximus of GWAR and a member of X-Cops. According to the band, the track highlights the legendary hospitality they received when Pete hosted them, which included him grilling for the band while a harem of women cooked and poured drinks for them. The track was released alongside a benefit T-shirt campaign on Bandcamp, with all proceeds going to support Pete Lee in his ongoing battle for health and justice.Pete Lee has been navigating longstanding health challenges and ongoing recovery stemming from severe injuries he sustained decades ago during a violent carjacking. To help him pay for medical costs and legal or living battles, Belushi Speed Ball has partnered with him in an ongoing benefit campaign. 100% of the profits from their limited-edition "All Pete's Exes" T-shirt sales go directly to aiding Lee in his battle for health and justice.Click Here to Subscribe to The Adventures of Pipeman for PERKS, BONUS Content & FREE GIVEWAYS! The Discovery of Hawaii. Guest Author: Hampton Sides. In late 1777, Cook accidentally discovered the Hawaiian Islands, starting with Kauai. The Hawaiians, who had never seen smoking or pockets, dubbed the sailors "volcano people." Cook realized these were Polynesians, leading him to marvel at the Polynesian diaspora and their incredible voyaging skills. Although he was in a hurry to reach Alaska, he went ashore unarmed to observe their sophisticated civilization, noting advanced aqueducts and agriculture. This find was historically significant, providing the first written description of Hawaiian culture, yet Cook refused to linger or explore the rest of the chain, driven by a frantic timeline to find the Northwest Passage. 61785 DEATH OF COOK

Send us Fan MailSeptember 1999. On the small south-east Asian island of Timor, demands for independence from Indonesia which had ruled over the population there since annexing it in 1976 had grown to such an extent as to spark open violence between those who wished to remain Indonesian and those who wanted the island to take control of its own future. This forced the United Nations to intervene, creating a peacekeeping force predominantly led by Australian defence forces to intervene and secure an open and fair referendum on independence. To assist with this difficult task, the Australian government turned to its two longest and most natural allies namely New Zealand and the United Kingdom for assistance. Dubbed the International Force for East Timor or INTERFET, it included a special operations detachment which arrived in theatre aboard a Royal Australian Air Force C-130 Hercules transport flying out of Darwin, Australia. Disembarking from the aircraft in their specially modified Land Rover Defenders was the small British contingent of around 20 troops who were captured briefly on camera by a news crew. For the British civilian population back home, this was one of the first real glimpses they'd had of arguably their country's most secretive special forces units – the Special Boat Squadron or SBS. In this episode, we are going to examine the often-overlooked origins of the SBS and cast some light on this most shadowy of groups. Welcome to Wars of the World.Support the show

In March 2026, the woods of Portage County, Ohio, became the center of a cryptozoological phenomenon. In a span of just five days, at least six independent witnesses reported seeing massive, eight-foot-tall figures moving along the Mahoning River. Dubbed the "Ohio Flap of 2026," this sudden uptick in activity has researchers and locals wondering if a changing climate is pushing these legends out of the shadows. --For early, ad free episodes and monthly exclusive bonus content, join our Patreon! Part 2 of this Blood Ties special with Geoffrey and Molly Wansell. Confronting one of Britain's most chilling killers: Dennis Nilsen. Calm, calculated, and hiding in plain sight, he murdered at least twelve young men between 1978 and 1983. Luring victims back to his North London flats, he strangled them, then carried out grotesque rituals, keeping bodies for days, even weeks, before dismembering and disposing of them. It is a story that still shocks.Dubbed the Muswell Hill Murderer, Nilsen was finally caught and convicted at the Old Bailey, sentenced to life, later a whole life term. But the question remains: how did he get away with it for so long?Geoffrey and Molly Wansell dig into the detail, the failures, and the psychology behind the headlines, asking what made Nilsen who he was, and why nobody stopped him sooner.CREDITS: Presenters: Geoffrey and Molly WansellProducer: Peter Shevlin https://pod60.com/Artwork: George LeighMusic: Dan WansellCONTACT: Twitter: @BloodTies_PodInstagram:@bloodtiespodcastEmail: bloodties.podcast@gmail.com YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@bloodtiespodcastSupport: patreon.com/bloodtiespodcastPlease complete our survey if you have time: http://bit.ly/bloodtiespodcast-survey Hosted on Acast. This week, CNN political commentator Scott Jennings delivers a direct indictment of a radical anti-American movement that has hijacked traditional liberal politics. This movement replaces paychecks with pronouns and border security with radicalism. Because the far Left continues to embrace this extreme, increasingly violent version of liberalism, we are now in a fight for the survival of Western civilization. CCV President Aaron Baer and US Senator Jon Husted join the conversation to expose the ongoing destruction that liberal politics have pushed on America, including: A poverty trap carefully constructed to punish work and destroy the nuclear family. Radical activists attempting to force boys into girls' locker rooms and bathrooms. American citizens fleeing blue-state chaos for the sanity of red-state leadership. Threats from the Iranian regime are downplayed, even though they have been the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism. The false belief that rights come from a government script or a judge rather than from God. Listen today to hear why the survival of the American experiment depends on a relentless defense of the truth. More About Scott Jennings Scott Jennings is a prominent conservative political commentator on CNN, known for his sharp insights and thought-provoking analysis. Dubbed “The Black Sheep of CNN” by the Daily Mail and “Lonely Scott” by Bill Maher for his engaging nightly debates, Jennings has become a fixture of CNN’s election and major event coverage. As the network's senior conservative commentator, Scott brings a unique perspective, blending humor and candor grounded in his rural American roots, to deliver compelling arguments and lively discussions on the news of the day. Scott’s career spans decades at the intersection of politics, media, and academia. A trusted advisor on four presidential campaigns, he served as Special Assistant to President George W. Bush and played pivotal roles in high-profile Senate and congressional races. His expertise in political strategy has made him a respected analyst on CNN and a prolific writer featured in publications like The LA Times and Gannett. Beyond the campaign trail, Scott has taught at Harvard’s Kennedy School, shaping the next generation of public servants. He is also a founding partner of RunSwitch Public Relations, Kentucky’s largest PR and public affairs firm. More About Senator Jon Husted Jon Husted began serving Ohioans in the US Senate in January 2025. For more than two decades, the people of Ohio have trusted him to fight for their jobs, values, and families. Husted started his life in a foster home before his loving parents, Jim and Judy, adopted him. He is the oldest of three children and was raised in northwest Ohio’s Williams County. The small community instilled in him the importance of faith, family, and hard work, which remain the foundation of his public service. In 2000, Husted won the election to the Ohio House of Representatives. He later was elected unanimously to lead the chamber as Speaker of the House from 2005 to 2009. As Speaker, Husted expanded educational freedom for Ohio children through the creation of the EdChoice Scholarship. Husted followed that with service in the Ohio State Senate until becoming the secretary of state in 2011. Husted’s two successful terms in that role led Ohioans to elect him lieutenant governor, where he championed common-sense solutions to make state government work better for its citizens while lowering costs. Of all his responsibilities, Sen. Husted considers being a loving husband, father, and grandfather the most important. He and his wife, Tina, raised their three children, Alex, Kylie, and Katie, in Ohio, and make their home in Columbus. The Husteds became grandparents to Mae in 2023 and are active members of Riverside Church.

Maria Pearson is Britain's longest serving female prisoner and one of its most unsettling cases. Dubbed the 'forgotten prisoner', she has spent decades behind bars, yet still refuses to accept responsibility for a brutal murder that shocked the nation. In 1987, driven by jealousy and rage, she stalked and stabbed a young woman 17 times in the street. It was calculated, savage, and final. What followed is just as chilling. Nine parole rejections. Repeated failures to engage with rehabilitation. Allegations of bullying and intimidation inside prison walls. And still, she insists it was self defence. So what keeps someone locked in that mindset for nearly forty years? And should the system ever release a prisoner who will not admit guilt? Geoffrey and Molly Wansell discuss Maria Pearson in this latest episode of Blood Ties.CREDITS: Presenters: Geoffrey and Molly WansellProducer: Peter Shevlin https://pod60.com/Artwork: George LeighMusic: Dan WansellCONTACT: Twitter: @BloodTies_PodInstagram:@bloodtiespodcastEmail: bloodties.podcast@gmail.com YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@bloodtiespodcastSupport: patreon.com/bloodtiespodcastPlease complete our survey if you have time: http://bit.ly/bloodtiespodcast-survey Hosted on Acast. In this episode, John Kim sits down with relationship expert and author Amy Chan to talk about dating patterns, childhood wounds, grief, commitment, and what it really takes to build healthy love. Amy shares how the sudden loss of a close friend changed the way she thinks about relationships and why creating core memories with the people you love matters more than convenience. John opens up about how losing his home reshaped his idea of freedom, home, and what truly matters. Together, they explore how childhood neglect, validation-seeking, and old survival strategies continue to shape adult dating patterns. They also break down Amy's framework for dating smarter, including how to spot where your dating life gets stuck, why apps should not be your only strategy, and how your energy affects connection. They talk about dopamine, fantasy, and why the first three months of dating can be misleading. Later, they unpack commitment, unrealistic expectations, relationship trade-offs, triggers, repair, and emotional safety. Amy explains her “Sh*t Bucket” concept and why healthy love is not about finding a perfect partner, but choosing someone whose imperfections you can actually live with. They close with a hopeful reminder: love is hard, but it is still worth building.
