Father's Day is almost here, so Jon and Will sat down to talk about what fatherhood actually asks of us. Not the highlight-reel version. The real one. This episode is about forgiveness. The kind you give your kids, the kind you give your own father, and the kind you eventually have to give yourself. We get into how holding onto resentment quietly wrecks the connection you say you want, and what changes when you finally put it down.We talked as dads. We also talked as sons, because you can't really separate the two. Some of this got personal. That felt right for the topic. If you're a father, or you're still working through things with your own, this one's worth your time. What we cover:Why Father's Day is a good excuse to look honestly at how we show up as dadsForgiveness as a real tool, not a soft one, for repairing the father-child bondHow resentment blocks the peace and clarity most of us are chasingWhat we've learned sitting on both sides of the relationship... as fathers and as sonsWhere forgiveness actually starts the healing, and where it just papers over thingsMost of this work starts with one skill, paying attention to what's actually going on inside you before you react. Dr. Kate Lund has spent much of her career as a psychologist studying children and parenting. She's distilled much of what she's learned in her most recent book, Step Away: The Keys to Resilient Parenting. In this episode, she describes who she persevered during her own childhood challenges and offers great advice for how we can all remain resilient during these difficult times. Chapters: 00:00 Overcoming Childhood Challenges Dr. Kate Lund, a clinical psychologist and author, shares her personal journey of growing up with hydrocephalus, including multiple surgeries and feeling different from her peers. Despite these difficulties, her family's support and their focus on 'what you can do' fostered an early sense of optimism and resilience within her. 03:32 Optimism and Parental Influence Dr. Lund discusses whether optimism is innate or learned, attributing her own glass-half-full perspective to her upbringing and her parents' positive attitudes. She shares a touching anecdote about her father, who, despite battling Parkinson's disease, taught her the importance of participation over perfection. 09:02 Journey to Psychology and Career Shift Kate reflects on her early interest in people and medical situations, which eventually led her to pursue psychology in college. After a White House internship, she realized that the fast-paced media world was not for her, solidifying her path toward a career in psychology where she could truly flourish. 11:58 The Pillars of Resilient Children Dr. Lund explains how her focus on parenting and resilience originated from her fellowship at Schreiner's Hospital, where she studied the impact of serious medical situations on children and their parents. She introduces her 'seven pillars of the resilient child,' emphasizing resilience as a foundational lifestyle for overall well-being. 15:00 Creating Optimism in Kids Discussing the societal trend of 'bubble wrapping' children, Dr. Lund advocates for building resilience to empower kids from the inside out. She emphasizes creating optimism by intentionally focusing on daily positive experiences, a practice she believes helps shift perspectives from negative self-talk to a more positive outlook. 19:22 Social Media's Impact on Parenting Dr. Lund addresses the significant impact of social media on parenting and children's well-being, particularly in exacerbating comparison and anxiety, using the college admissions process as an example. She stresses the importance of teaching children to understand their unique context and the curated reality often presented on social platforms. 25:49 Resilient Parenting and Authenticity Dr. Lund introduces her book, 'Step Away,' which focuses on parents creating space for their own well-being to better support their families. She discusses developing a resilient mindset by managing stress responses and fostering authentic human connections with children, emphasizing the importance of sharing personal challenges in a developmentally appropriate way. 33:40 Grit, Perseverance, and Letting Kids Learn Dr. Lund acknowledges the importance of grit, as popularized by Angela Duckworth, as a crucial component of resilience. She discusses the tough parental dilemma of when to intervene versus when to let children face consequences to foster learning and self-advocacy. 38:50 Fostering Optimism and Future Projects Dr. Lund reiterates the importance of the 'daily wins' exercise and helping children see possibilities beyond challenges to build lasting optimism. She concludes by discussing her new podcast, 'Resilient Parenting with Dr. Kate,' which complements her latest book and offers insights for parents.

Playspaces are often dismissed as “nice-to-haves” with their colorful swings, slides, and monkey bars, but KABOOM! was founded on the urgent belief that they are an essential community infrastructure. The organization's origin traces back to a tragic moment when two children lost their lives playing in an abandoned car because there was nowhere safe to play in their neighborhood. That devastating inequity sparked a movement to ensure that where a child lives does not determine whether they have access to safe, joyful play. Today, as KABOOM! celebrates 30 years, the organization has evolved from building individual playgrounds to advancing a data-driven, systems-level strategy to end playspace inequity for good.We invited Lysa Ratliff, CEO of KABOOM!, to talk about why play is a critical investment in children's futures and how meaningful, lasting impact happens when communities shape the solutions themselves. In this episode, Lysa shares how KABOOM!'s co-creation model ensures that playgrounds are designed with kids and neighbors, not simply delivered to them, leading to deeper stewardship and significantly higher usage. She also explores how collective action by residents, municipal leaders, and corporate partners helps scale long-term transformation. And importantly, she highlights the environmental and public health dimensions embedded in today's playground design. At its core, this work makes clear that designing for children is one of the most powerful strategies for shaping stronger communities and a more equitable future.Listen for insights on:Co-creating with residents for lasting neighborhood ownershipBuilding cross-sector partnerships that endureEmbedding climate resilience into community infrastructure Watch this episode on YouTube!Resources + Links:Lysa Ratliff's LinkedInWhat Is Playspace InequityThe City of Uvalde and KABOOM! Now that all of my children have moved out of adolescence, I'm realizing they didn't come equipped with a switch or button that could be tripped or pushed to make them accept, embrace, and believe everything we told them about faith and life. Instead, I needed to allow them to grow just as I was allowed to grow. Our kids intellectual, physical, and spiritual development are all ongoing processes. They don't happen instantaneously or overnight. Our role is to consistently model and speak truth into their lives. Then we must allow the Holy Spirit to do the work that only he can do. We serve to guide and direct. God's Spirit works to bring about change and growth at just the right time, and does so over the course of time. We can't do what only God can do. Always remember they're in process. Prayerfully expect God to open their eyes at just the right time, a time that may, in fact, be pretty far down the road. In the meantime, be faithfully growing and living out your faith before their watchful eyes.

In this episode of the GaryVee Audio Experience, I sit down with Dr. Amanda on her podcast Midlife Muse to talk about how to build momentum in business and life through gratitude and self awareness, why the fear of “being seen” is holding you back, and the impact of 6th place trophies. Dr. Amanda and I also discuss why losing is good, the impact my mother has had on me and why hanging out with 70-80 year olds will change your life for the better. You'll hear about: Definition of Failure: The ultimate failure or “loss in life” is defined as only "eight people showing up to that funeral" due to cutting and stepping on others to succeed.Regret and Fear: Regret is viewed as "poison" and "wasted energy". People do not live life as their true selves or mitigate regret because they are worried about the opinions of others or people in their life who embody "misery loves company".The Value of the Elderly: Recommending spending time with a non-family member over 70 to gain wisdom and learn about regret. The Era of the 70-Year-Old: The prediction that society is nearing the "era of the 70-year-old" where wisdom will be valued over youth.Parental Influence and Fear: Many people absorb the fear of their parents (often a mother or father), which prevents them from pursuing their ideas.

In this powerful and confronting conversation, Dr. Melissa Sell returns to Here for the Truth for her eighth appearance to explore how modern medical and cultural rituals have severed us from our primal instincts, our intuition, and our innate trust in life. Through the lens of German New Medicine and the Five Biological Laws, we examine how the earliest experiences of infants—from wellness checks to ear piercings to “cry it out” sleep training—can imprint deep patterns of fear, separation, and obedience. This episode is a wake-up call to reclaim our natural intelligence, to see through the conditioning that normalizes harm, and to remember that true health begins with awareness and self-responsibility.Time Stamps(00:00) Episode Teaser(00:27) Opening Conversation(07:57) Introduction to Dr. Melissa Sell's Work(08:39) The Growth of German New Medicine(10:35) Parenting and Health Paradigms(30:27) Personal Anecdotes and Reflections(45:35) The Ritual of Water and Biological Adaptation(49:21) Historical Context of Birthing Practices(50:41) Ear Piercing and Parental Dilemmas(52:09) Cultural Practices and Instinctual Overrides(55:44) Children's Nighttime Fears and Parental Influence(01:01:28) Biological Conflicts and Hospital Visits(01:03:07) Sleep Training and Crying It Out(01:06:26) Separation Conflicts and Childhood Diseases(01:09:13) Parental Conflicts and Child Symptoms(01:12:20) Spirituality and German New Medicine(01:19:38) Germanic People and Natural Living(01:25:37) The Impact of Fathers Traveling for Work(01:29:06) The Evolution of Family Names and Roles(01:31:18) Perspectives on Evolution and Adaptation(01:38:43) Sibling Rivalries and Biological Conflicts(01:40:33) The Significance of Tongue Posture and Ties(01:45:52) The Body's Biological AdaptationsGuest Linkshttps://www.drmelissasell.com/ https://www.instagram.com/drmelissasell/ Connect with UsJoin our membership Friends of the TruthTake the Real AF Test NowDiscover Your Truth Seeker ArchetypeWatch all our episodesConnect with us on TelegramAccess all our links

On this episode of Bringin' It Backwards, Adam and Tera Lisicky sit down with Jake from In Hearts Wake for a raw, insightful look at his unusual journey from the creative beaches of Byron Bay to the international heavy music scene. Jake opens up about growing up surrounded by artists—his mom, a tarot card reader; his “bonus dad,” a hardcore punk frontman—and how the wild energy of side-stage moments at legendary shows set him on the path to forming In Hearts Wake, his first and only band. From recording DIY demos for school art projects to traveling across the globe to capture their signature sound, Jake shares how In Hearts Wake found early recognition, carved out a unique identity around powerful themes like environmentalism, and pushed boundaries with cryptic album concepts inspired by tarot cards. He explains how their newest release completes a 12-year journey, finishing what they started as teenagers by turning the remaining tarot archetypes into thunderous new songs. Jake also talks candidly about the band's evolution, the heartbreak and hope of longtime bassist Kyle's upcoming departure, and what it really takes to keep a creative partnership together for over a decade. Along the way, you'll hear about secret album easter eggs, epic on-stage energy, and the power of making sure your art comes from a real place. If you're an aspiring artist, a fan of heartfelt heavy music, or just love personal stories about forging your own path, don't miss this episode. Listen now to get inspired, and make sure to subscribe to Bringin' It Backwards for more backstage access to your favorite artists' real stories.
In this episode, we dive deep with Stefanos Sifandos into the hidden wounds and unconscious patterns that quietly shape the way we love and relate. Through raw honesty and lived experience, he reminds us that real transformation is not about quick fixes but a lifelong process of facing ourselves with courage, compassion, and integrity—ultimately allowing us to build relationships rooted in truth and growth.Time Stamps(00:00) Episode Teaser(00:30) Opening Conversation(05:20) Stefanos' Personal Hero's Journey(12:04) The Turning Point: A Catalyst for Change(14:45) The Journey into Personal Transformation(18:27) Challenges in Modern Relationships(32:29) The Role of Polarity in Relationships(44:59) The Mother Wound and Male Fragility(46:06) The Impact of Parental Influence(49:16) Mentors and Influential Books(54:11) The Role of Somatic Experiencing(01:00:09) Unconditional Love and Relationships(01:09:04) Devotion and Commitment in Modern Relationships(01:20:10) Messages to Men and Women(01:23:24) Conclusion and ResourcesGuest Linkshttps://stefanossifandos.com/https://coachwithstef.com/https://www.instagram.com/stefanossifandos/Connect with UsJoin our membership Friends of the TruthSubscribe to Here for the Truth FridaysTake the Real AF Test NowDiscover Your Truth Seeker ArchetypeWatch all our episodesConnect with us on TelegramAccess all our links

Take a deep dive into the evolving tactics of gravel racing, where confidence, preparation, and expert coaching drive athletes to new heights. Professional cyclist, Melisa Rollins, and her coach, Isaiah Newkirk, join host Matti Rowe, Education Specialist, for a look behind the scenes of training and racing tactics in professional gravel and mountain bike racing. Melisa, fresh off of a win at Steamboat Gravel and breaking the record at Leadville 100, is redefining how races are won—not just by crossing the finish line first, but by making bold moves and having the confidence to see them through. When she returned to Leadville this year, Melisa brought a new perspective: instead of focusing solely on defending her title, she recognized the unpredictable nature of competition and embraced the value of small victories along the way. Her success comes from strategic planning, adaptability, and a fearless approach to each race, proving that winning can mean much more than a podium finish. Isaiah, founder of TrainingEdge Coaching and performance director for Project Echelon, along with Melisa's coach, dives into the meticulous planning efforts and bold tactical moves—and how Melissa and Isaiah approach everything from training adaptations at altitude to the psychological ups and downs of top-level racing. Key takeaways: If you've ever wrestled with motivation after a big win or doubted yourself mid-training session, Melissa's honest account of post-victory blues and curbside tears offers a refreshingly real perspective. With insights into altitude training, mental resilience, and the power of immediate coach-athlete feedback, this episode is packed with actionable wisdom. Whether you're preparing for your own Leadville-level challenge or just looking for inspiration to take your training up a notch, Melissa and Isaiah's story will remind you: success comes from knowing your strengths, planning with purpose, and learning to thrive both in data and what's out of your control. 03:14 Parental Influence and Sport Choices 11:53 Building Confidence Through Specific Workouts 13:58 Racing Strategy & Mental Toughness 17:51 Evolving Race Tactics in Women's Cycling 19:48 Optimizing Athletic Power Curve 25:15 Remote Coaching's Unique Connection 26:01 Coaching: Beyond Data, Emotional Support 29:20 Leadville Race Experience Insights 36:37 Redefining Winning Beyond Titles 43:36 Altitude Data Boosted Race Performance

His podcast, The Tim Ferriss Show, has been listened to more than a billion times. Tim was an early investor in Uber, Shopify, Twitter, Alibaba, and many others. He's the creator of a new card game called COYOTE. Decision making - How can I win even if I lose? He viewed angel investing like his personal MBA. Instead of paying for business school, he invested in companies and learned about business by working with actual businesses. He didn't expect to make money on those investments. That was just a bonus. Think, “How can I win even if I lose?” Tim won with those investments, regardless of whether he made money or not on them. Key Takeaways and Learnings: Parents Who Foster Curiosity – Tim's mother created a "books are always in budget" policy despite tight finances. Used remainder tables at bookstores to expose him to random, off-menu knowledge that sparked lifelong curiosity about unconventional topics. Curiosity-Driven Exploration – When Tim showed interest in marine biology, his mom found Frank Mundus (inspiration for Jaws character), arranged a meeting, and created low-cost adventures like crab fishing with chicken bones to fuel his interests. The Mask You Wear Becomes You – "Be very careful what you pretend to be" - spent years presenting as overly serious to be taken seriously, which created a recursive feedback loop. Now embraces more play and laughter to avoid burnout. Fiction and Poetry as Life Teachers – Shifted from non-fiction purist to reading more fiction/poetry. Recommends "Ozymandias" as a monthly reminder that all achievements fade: "My name is Ozymandias, king of kings. Look on my works, ye mighty and despair. Nothing beside remains." Internal vs External Scorecards – Money and fame amplify whatever's underneath, like alcohol or power. "If you have certain insecurities or paranoia, all of those are going to be amplified. If you're generous, that's also gonna be the case." Effectiveness Over Efficiency – "Effectiveness is doing the right things, efficiency is doing things well, but doing something well does not make it important." Focus on choosing the right targets rather than optimizing everything. Strategic Slack in Systems – Moved away from filling every 10 minutes. Takes 10 minutes each morning with coffee to read fiction/poetry/meditate to prove "you do not have to front flip out of bed and land in a full sprint." How to Win Even If You Fail – Project selection framework: "How can I win even if I fail?" Focus on relationships built and skills acquired that transfer beyond the project if external metrics don't pan out. The COYOTE Game Philosophy – Created a card game to address the social isolation epidemic. "People don't have a shortage of productivity advice... It's taking some steam out of the system and actually enjoying what you have worked so hard for." Social Bonds as Foundation – "It's the relationships, stupid." Countries rated happiest fundamentally come down to social ties. In-person social interactions are down 70% in certain age groups over the last 10 years. Podcasting as Relationship Building – "My goal is not to have 100% of my audience like any episode... but I do want 10% of my audience to love each episode." The personal is the most universal. Fame's Hidden Costs – With the audience size of major cities comes proportional number of unstable people. "If you have a small village, you're gonna have one village idiot... "How many crazy people are there in New York City?" "Be suspicious of what you want." Tim read me the poem by Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley "If more information were the answer, we'd all be billionaires with six-pack abs." Be a talent scout - You don't need a huge network. A+ players in one area know A+ players in others. Seek out people who are great at what they do, regardless of what they do. Study what makes them great at that thing. Then you'll probably meet other A+ players. Also, it's on us to strive to be an A+ player at what we do. Be so good at whatever your thing is that other A+ players want to meet you. Tim has been very good at that. Quotes: "Be very careful what you pretend to be... the mask you wear often becomes the person you are." "Be suspicious of what you want." (Rumi) "My name is Ozymandias, king of kings. Look on my works, ye mighty and despair. Nothing beside remains." "Effectiveness is doing the right things, efficiency is doing things well, but doing something well does not make it important." "How can I win even if I fail?" "The personal is the most universal." "It's the relationships, stupid." "If more information were the answer, then we'd all be billionaires with six-pack abs." "Follow your curiosity and obsessions with great rigor. Do that and I like your chances." "The superheroes you have in your mind are nearly all walking flaws who've maximized one or two strengths." "You don't need a huge network... the super A+ players tend to know other A+ players." Life Lessons: Cultivate Childhood Curiosity – Create "always yes" policies for learning and exploration. Use constraints (like remainder tables) to discover unexpected interests. Embrace Strategic Experimentation – View life as a series of 6-12-month projects with 2-4 week experiments. Design studies to get feedback, not just chase outcomes. Balance Seriousness with Play – Taking yourself too seriously leads to burnout. Build in recovery phases and "deloading" periods across all life areas. Choose Projects for Learning – Select opportunities based on relationships you'll build and skills you'll acquire, not just potential external rewards. Start With Personal Pain Points – Best opportunities often come from solving problems you personally understand deeply, then expanding adjacent. Build Safety Nets First – Like Arnold's real estate, before acting, create financial/emotional cushions that allow you to say no and wait for right opportunities. Quality Over Quantity in Relationships – Better to have deep connections with fewer people than surface-level networks with many. Morning Rituals Create Calm – Prove to your nervous system you don't have to be frantic by taking 10 minutes each morning for something peaceful. Scratch Your Own Itch – Whether in podcasting, investing, or any pursuit, follow genuine personal interest for sustainable energy and authentic results. Prepare for Success Taxes – Fame and wealth amplify existing traits. Address insecurities and develop strong boundaries before scaling. Value Present Experience – Focus on daily energy in/out rather than constantly deferring happiness to future achievements. Apply to be part of my next Learning Leader Circle. "This isn't about fixing you. It's about remembering who you are and rising as a man that you were born to be." ~ David Mehler, Host and Man On FIRE Founder 00:00:37 – Why Men Feel Lost or Like Imposters"How many men actually feel like a fraud, an imposter or a liar… feeling like they didn't access their potential, feeling like they've let other people down looking at a man in the mirror and… not liking who they're seeing." It doesn't have to be this way anymore!00:01:36 – The Broken Model Handed to Men"We were told, go to school… get the good grades… get the good job… And what a lie. What a farce. What B.S."00:02:34 – The Inner Critical Voice In the Man On FIRE world, the voice that comes from the over-critical mind, we call it the pirates… “That voice has one agenda and one job only. And it is to bring you down."00:04:17 – Parental Influence & Early Programming"For many of us, sadly, it came from our parents… rather than building you up, was tearing you down."00:06:35 – Power of Programming & The Forgetting"That programming is so hard to get to the other side of … [it] keeps reminding you that you're not good enough.""So what happens to all of us is that we end up feeling lost. We end up feeling like the fraud… like imposters. And we go into what I call the Forgetting…."00:07:38 – How We Get Stuck Despite Efforts to Change"And no matter how many cool books you read or you go to seminar here, and it temporarily cracks you open and boom. You go back to [your old] programming. You go back into the Forgetting."00:08:55 – The Call to Remember Who You Are"We forgot to dream big. We forgot to have a grand vision for our life. We forgot that we were built for more… We go into the Forgetting, and it's time to remember. It's time to wake up. It's time to rise."00:09:20 – David's Personal Story: School, Programming, and Self-WorthDavid shares some of the deep programming that was running him, having him believe he wasn't good enough or smart enough… until he was able to see it for what it really was.00:11:43 – The Role of Passion and Support: A Father's Well-Timed Advice"I'd like you to find what you're truly passionate about. And for the next six months… I want you to go discover what are you passionate about, what would light you up, what would motivate you..."00:12:54 – Surrounding Yourself with the Right People“I started to listen to people that would motivate me, that would empower me, that would inspire me, that would bring me into a higher vibrational frequency, a higher range, and start to really bring me into the Remembrance.”00:13:27 – Who You Surround Yourself With Matters"His friends weren't elevating him. His friends weren't helping him step into the bigness of who God made him to be…. Our peer group matters. Who we hang out with matters. The voices that we're listening to...MATTER."00:15:18 – Self-Compassion Over Self-Criticism"Don't be another person that wants to bring yourself down. There are plenty of people… that would love to bring you down… Don't add to that list."00:16:43 – What Will You Do With This Realization?"So my question for you is, do you feel lost? Do you feel like an imposter?... And if so, what are you prepared to do about it?"00:17:11 – Your Mistakes Don't Define You"The things you've done in the past do not define you. Good people do bad things. All of us have hurt other people… That is not what defines you. But it is an invitation to be refined."
