Joe Denner joins us for a fantastic discussion that explores the often overlooked (and sometimes controversial) concept that business and everyday work can serve as powerful platforms for ministry. Joe talks aboout how he came to his personal realization about the sacred-secular divide and the understanding that all work under God's sovereignty can be a form of ministry. Joe Denner is an experienced business consultant with a rich background in both pastoral roles and the corporate world. He shares his journey from being in the financial sector to embracing his true calling in executive coaching and business consulting. Joe emphasizes the importance of seeing work as a ministry, the transformative power of building meaningful relationships within the workplace, and the impact this mindset can have on company culture, innovation, and individual growth. We unpack the idea that good organizations, like supportive churches, are unafraid to send their people out into the world, which is the mission we strive for at Unbound in creating a community that values and launches its members. In this episode of the Be Unbound podcast, co-hosts David Rethemeyer and Jonathan Brush tackle the controversial topic of the diminishing value proposition of higher education. We dive into the pervasive myth that not pursuing a college degree leads to low-paying, undesirable jobs, arguing that the reality today is quite different. The episode highlights statistics indicating that the cost of college tuition has dramatically outpaced the earning potential of a degree, which has remained stagnant or even lost value over time. We also discuss alternative paths to success that don't involve traditional four-year degrees, emphasizing the importance of skills, experience, and the potential economic advantages of not attending college. We also share insights into the Unbound program's approach to equipping young adults for thriving lives without the burden of college debt. As you listen to our conversation with Scott Grant, you'll very quickly see why he fits our definition of "Extraordinary at Ordinary." We talk to Scott about three exceptional things that he's known for: 1) Scott is a military veteran with multiple international and domestic deployments as a helicopter pilot. 2) He's also been a chief helicopter pilot for law enforcement with extensive experience in search and rescue operations in high altitude mountain situations. Those things take a high level of skill, dedication, sacrifice and time. Becoming a seasoned helicopter pilot is not a hobby jobs. It's not weekend pass time or a nine-to-fiver. But we also know Scott for a third exceptional thing: he has an extraordinary family. In addition to his high-demand career, Scott has invested heavily in his relationships with his children and in his marriage. We think the results speak for themselves. In our latest installement of the ongoing Extraordinary at Ordinary series, we talk with Tracy Kimzey about her approach to raising kids (or rather, raising adults!). Being a mom is the one job or profession you can do that you absolutely know will change the world. The hero moms we get to work with in Unbound are often behind the scenes, they're unnoticed, they're almost always underappreciated, and they're certainly not famous, and yet the work that they're doing is, by definition, always extraordinary, and it's always world changing. Tracy shares how her approach to parenting and motherhood changed over the years. While she used to laugh at the idea of homeschooling and how weird it all seemed, she shares how God convicted her heart when her kids were young to be more empathetic to families who chose homsechooling. Tracy and her husband Trevor ended up embracing the idea, and now has homeschooled all of her 8 children. This is a great conversation not only about parenting, but also about listening, being present, and meeting the real needs of the people closest to you.
