It’s the very first couple-edition of Go Fact Yourself! Wil Wheaton is an actor, writer and geek-culture legend. He’s been in everything from Star Trek: The Next Generation where he starred as the character Wesley Crusher, to his YouTube series TableTop. He’s glad to come onto the show and answer trivia questions about his interests; but he also is eager to prove that he knows these subjects well enough to stump the hosts too. Competing against Wil is Anne Wheaton, author of the children’s book Piggy and Pug, which is as adorable as the title makes it sound. The book also reflects her background as an animal lover, which has shown in her professional life as well as her personal one. Anne also happens to be married to Wil. In this episode, we’ll learn about secrets from classic arcade games, musical theater and how Anne and Wil met and fell in love. After 17 years as a hairdresser, I retired from my career to focus full time on my true passions: my love of rescue pets, and helping my fellow humans. For the past 4 years, I have served as a Director for the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA, and as an Ambassador for National Women’s Health Week through the U.S. Health Department’s Office On Women’s Health. I also manage a non-profit my husband and I started called The Foundation To Increase Awesome. My first rescue pet was an orange tabby cat who followed me while walking home from a friend’s house when I was 5 years old. (It was the 70s. Apparently it was a safer time?) After two days of searching for his owner, we discovered they had moved away and left this cat behind. The cat had gone out in search of a new family, and we became that for him. I never thought to seek out the family to find out why they left him, I just saw this cat who wanted to be loved and have a home. It was hard to understand at such a young age why anyone would do this, which is why I decided to write Piggy and Pug, the book little-kid-me would have loved to read. I currently live in Los Angeles with my husband, Wil, and our three rescue pets.

Today, we have an absolute blast chatting with Anne Wheaton. On this episode, we talk a lot about Anne's brand-new children's picture book, Piggy and Pug. The book is the result of a long-held dream that she finally grabbed hold of and made a reality. We chat about the long road to self-publishing and the learning process she went through along the way. We also talk about her recent health scare, what she's taken away from that experience, living life in the public eye, the struggle to maintain "normalcy" and secrecy when kids are involved, and the Foundation to Increase Awesome.
Wow, ten episodes and they said it couldn't be done! Actually, no one said that, but we're still really excited! We start off with a look back at 10 episodes of memories and the toys we lost along the way. Then, Renee has her most successful mutt minute yet! We're joined by writer, philanthropist and all-around awesome person Anne Wheaton! Anne tells us all about her dogs and dog-related activities! Yes, THE Anne Wheaton (Twitter: @AnneWheaton), who is much more than wife of Wil Wheaton. We chatted outside a fantastic coffee shop in Burbank, CA about ugly crying, anxiety attacks, handling chaotic conventions, and how Nathan Fillion gives her gas.
Americans are romantics at heart, and many of our romanticized ideals are captured in our music, everything from the lone cowboy in the Eagles' "Desperado," to the rebel in George Thorogood's anthem "Get A Haircut," to Cyndi Lauper's "I Drove All Night." And while being a cowboy can indeed be a lonely profession, and getting a haircut isn't always a bad thing, driving all night, or more specifically driving while drowsy, is becoming an American epidemic. How much of an epidemic? To find out, I spoke with Dr. Anne Wheaton of the Center For Disease Control and Prevention, better known as the CDC. To read the summary of the report, follow this link: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm6151a1.htm. This episode originally posted in January 2013.
