In this episode, I'm joined by Daria, a neonatologist, researcher, and mom of three, who shares what it's really like to juggle two demanding roles at work while raising a young family. We talk about the mental load of switching between high-intensity clinical care and long-term research projects, and how she used the Beyond Balance framework to find motivation, create better boundaries, and feel more present with her kids.   Daria opens up about the emotional toll of her work, the surprising flexibility of her research role, and the mindset shifts that helped her stop feeling like she was constantly behind. We also talk about the moment she realized she didn't need more time with her kids—she just needed to see the time she already had differently. From folding laundry on the bathroom floor to doing yoga with her toddler, Daria found ways to create connection in the middle of everyday life.   If you'd like to experience similar changes in your life, Beyond Balance is open for enrollment right now.

E346. 12 Weeks: Why Your Goals Are Taking So Long (And How to Fix That)

April Garcia's PivotMe

A year sounds ambitious… but it's also the adult version of saying, "I'll start on Monday." And Monday never comes. Welcome back, Pivoter. Last week, April introduced your 4 Rocks — the four non-negotiable outcomes that actually matter this year. In this episode, she takes it one step further by challenging a deeply ingrained habit that quietly kills momentum: thinking in twelve-month timelines. Drawing inspiration from The 12 Week Year by Brian Moran, April reframes how high performers should approach execution — not by lowering goals, but by shortening the runway. This episode is about shifting from vague ambition to focused action by treating the next twelve weeks like they actually matter. Key Takeaways Life runs in seasons, not years Real change happens in defined windows — launches, training cycles, transitions, and sprints. Twelve weeks mirrors how life actually works. A year creates comfort; a quarter creates urgency Long timelines invite procrastination. Short timelines sharpen focus and accelerate action. Time constraints improve performance Just like Parkinson's Law, work expands to fill the time you give it. Compress the timeline and execution improves dramatically. Quarterly focus reduces overwhelm Instead of reacting to everything, twelve-week thinking helps you decide what matters now — and what can wait. This is a gift for goal-avoiders A twelve-week season feels safer than a year. It's practice, not identity. Low pressure, high clarity. Execution beats dreaming This mindset isn't about thinking bigger — it's about showing up consistently as the person you're becoming. How This Connects to Your 4 Rocks You already chose the mountains. Now you decide which part of the climb matters this season. Not all four. Not the whole plan. Just this twelve-week window. You're not lowering the goal — you're shortening the runway. And when you do that, motivation becomes optional. Momentum takes over. Reflection Question What would change if I treated the next twelve weeks like they actually mattered? Sit with that. Because clarity compounds quickly when time is constrained.   Want help turning your 4 Rocks into a focused 12-week execution plan?

Turning Vision Into Action: A Better Way to Execute Part 2 shifts from insight to application. Dan breaks down how leaders can translate long-term vision into focused, repeatable execution — without burning out or losing adaptability. Summary Dan walks through the structure and mindset of the 12-Week Year, explaining how shorter planning cycles, weekly scorekeeping, and fewer priorities help leaders move faster and smarter. Mike connects the framework to leadership behaviors, strategic thinking, and real-world performance in uncertain environments. Key Discussion Points Why shrinking timeframes increases energy and focus How weekly feedback loops improve performance The danger of treating plans as to-do lists Why strategic thinking requires protected time Highlights The 12-Week Year as a leadership mindset Why five priorities outperform ten How weekly reviews replace annual frustration Intensity paired with recovery sustains performance Key Takeaways Strategy lives in execution, not intention Shorter cycles create faster learning Planning is leadership work, not admin work Focused systems outperform motivated chaos Suggested Next Steps Define 3–5 priorities for your next 12 weeks Schedule a weekly 10–15 minute review Protect time for thinking, not just doing Connect with Dan Mintz on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dan-mintz/

Trace Blackmore opens 2026 with a practical reset: how to plan with urgency, sharpen the fundamentals that make troubleshooting easier, and use the tools around this podcast to keep your development moving all year. The 12-Week Year: urgency you can use Annual goals often feel "far away" until December forces focus. The 12-week year flips that dynamic by treating each quarter like a year—creating urgency sooner and giving you four chances to reset and improve. Trace walks through the structure: start with a vision (he uses a three-year example), then choose 3–5 tactical goals for the next 12 weeks, so you don't overload and quit. He also ties it to a water treatment reality: quarterly customer touchpoints are simply more productive than an annual "re-introduce everything" meeting.  Trace points listeners to planning support and easy on-ramps:  the book link: ScalingUpH2O.com/12weekyear  the planning guide PDF: ScalingUpH2O.com/12weekyearplan  and an Audible option (free month + free book mentioned in the transcript).  Mailbag: how the show is made—and what's changing  A listener asks how an episode goes from spark to air. Trace lays out the workflow: idea sourcing, research and pre-production, guest outreach, scheduling, outline creation, recording discipline, post-production with audio engineer Sean, then show notes, graphics, social posts, scheduling, and promotion. He also shares a key quality upgrade: guests now receive equipment prerequisites (including budget-friendly mic options) because the Scaling Up Nation can hear the difference.  On what's new for 2026, Trace shares a major personal commitment: he's pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration, including research, data collection, and defending a thesis—with an intent to involve listeners through future surveys.  Skills to build in 2026: foundation, communication, and technology  Trace's recommendations land in three buckets:  Strengthen fundamentals (chemistry, products, and the "why" behind test kits),  improve communication and relationship-building (including temperament-based communication concepts he references), and  Learn what's available in data and technology so you can show up to accounts better prepared—and avoid time-wasting return trips.  He closes with a direct action: browse the ScalingUpH2O.com events section and pick learning opportunities you can attend (especially those nearby), then build a 12-week plan that helps you justify bigger conferences by clearly stating what value you'll bring back.  Stay engaged, keep learning, and continue scaling up your knowledge!    Timestamps    02:38 - Welcome to 2026 and what this "first show of the year" is designed to do (reset, tools, and a mailbag).  07:30 – 12 Week Year Planning format  21:09 – Dive Into The Scaling UP! Welcome to the The Achievers Podcast. I'm your host Amber Deibert, Performance Coach. I help enterprise sellers unlock their full potential by aligning their work with how they workout and cleaning up mindset trash, so they can sell more, stress less, and take back control of their time and success. If planning feels heavy, annoying, or like one more thing on your to-do list, this episode is for you. Most sellers either: • Don't plan at all and spend the day putting out fires, or • Try to follow someone else's "perfect system" and assume they are the problem when it doesn't work. You don't need a complicated notion board or a 2-hour CEO block. You need a simple way to decide in advance what matters most, and keep it where you can actually see it. In this episode, I walk you through a planning shift that takes 5-7 minutes and can easily give you two hours back in your day by cutting down decision fatigue, distractions, and low-value busywork.

We walk through five clear reasons your words matter now—starting with a reframing that changes everything: writing is a conversation, not a competition. When you see books and essays as flavors, not trophies, the goal shifts from being the only voice to bringing your unique taste to the table. That shift opens the door to momentum, courage, and better work.We dig into how individual experience and style shape meaning for different readers. Crowded genres signal demand, not futility. Some people will learn from you because of your cadence, stories, and lens—and not from the biggest names in the field. We also talk about the cultural role of writers as torchbearers who keep ideas alive by renewing them for the present. Retellings, reframings, and updates aren't duplicates; they are bridges that carry wisdom forward. Then we get tactical. You'll hear a practical system for starting small and iterating with less fear: test chapters, micro-shares, talks, proposals, and structured feedback loops. We cover “fail early, fail often” as a learning engine, plus the mindset tools that sustain you—resilience for the tough comments and a growth mindset that treats every draft as a step toward a clearer voice. By the end, you'll have both the why and the how to publish with purpose, find your readers, and keep going when the noise gets loud.If this resonates, follow the show, leave a quick review to help other writers find it, and share this episode with a friend who needs a nudge to hit publish. We're excited to announce the launch of our new website: 12weekyearforwriters.comTo celebrate, you can join the 12 Week Year Writers membership for 50% off the first three months.ABOUT TREVOR THRALL & THE 12 WEEK YEAR FOR WRITERS Subscribe to get our free Quick Start Guide at 12weekyearforwriters.com Join our community at 12weekyearforwriters.com/membership Register for a live workshop at 12weekyearforwriters.com/events Connect with Trevor on Linked In My team and I help writers get their writing done. Send us a textCheck out the Embracing Uncertainty Workshop, October 20, 2025!The draft feels stuck, the notes aren't talking, and your outline suddenly looks like wishful thinking. We've all been there. Trevor sits down with writing coach and historian-turned-book coach Christina Larocco to unpack a calm, repeatable way to turn uncertainty into momentum—without waiting for a muse or getting lost in another stack of sources.Christina shares the simple two-column exercise that changes everything: list what you know on one side and what you don't know on the other. Those unknowns become concrete questions, and questions become small, focused experiments you can run in a single session. We dig into structured freewriting, constraint-based prompts, and playful methods—from writing a paragraph three ways to sketching a three-panel comic—that coax clarity when the page feels hostile. You'll hear how to stop the common avoidance loops: surface-level tinkering, endless research, and premature abandonment of promising drafts.Together we challenge the plotter vs. pantser binary and show how both camps can cross-train. Plotters plan for discovery so surprises strengthen structure instead of derailing it. Pantsers add light scaffolds to restart momentum when instinct stalls. Then we map these tools to the 12-week year framework: breaking a chapter into solvable questions, scheduling micro-experiments, and measuring progress by decisions made, not hours suffered. Whether you're shaping an academic article, a business book, or a novel's messy middle, you'll leave with practical moves to reduce panic, invite curiosity, and make the unknown do the work.If this conversation helps, share it with a writer who's stuck, subscribe for more craft and process insights, and leave a quick review—it helps others find the show and join the work-in-progress.We're excited to announce the launch of our new website: 12weekyearforwriters.comTo celebrate, you can join the 12 Week Year Writers membership for 50% off the first three months.ABOUT TREVOR THRALL & THE 12 WEEK YEAR FOR WRITERS Subscribe to get our free Quick Start Guide at 12weekyearforwriters.com Join our community at 12weekyearforwriters.com/membership Register for a live workshop at 12weekyearforwriters.com/events Connect with Trevor on Linked In My team and I help writers get their writing done. Rather than beating ourselves up for lacking willpower or discipline, I offer practical, proven strategies to make your writing sessions nearly inevitable.Fear keeps many writers perpetually stuck in "research mode," avoiding the terrifying blank page. Send us a textLanding a publishing deal often feels like an impossible dream for aspiring authors. What makes one manuscript stand out among thousands? How can you ensure your pitch letter doesn't end up in the rejection pile? In this revealing conversation, former book editor Jason Kuznicki pulls back the curtain on what really happens when editors evaluate submissions.Drawing from his experience reviewing hundreds of pitch letters at the Cato Institute, Jason dispels common myths about the publishing process. Contrary to what many writers believe, editors aren't looking for authors who can dazzle them with vocabulary or obscure references. Instead, they seek writers who can communicate clearly and connect with readers. "Can you talk about your book like a real person?" Jason asks, identifying this simple quality as the most crucial element of a successful pitch. The conversation explores the surprising reality that pitch letters serve multiple purposes beyond securing a publishing contract. They help authors clarify their thinking, provide a compass for the writing process, and ultimately become valuable marketing copy. This makes crafting a pitch letter valuable even for those planning to self-publish. Jason shares practical advice on structuring these letters, emphasizing brevity (just a couple of pages), clarity about your book's core argument or story, and the importance of identifying comparable titles.Perhaps most refreshingly, Jason reframes the author-editor relationship. Rather than viewing editors as gatekeepers or adversaries, he suggests seeing them as potential teammates who want your book to succeed. The best pitch letters demonstrate you understand not just your subject matter, but how to talk about it engagingly with different audiences—a skill that proves invaluable throughout the publishing journey.Want to transform your publishing prospects?
