Bibiana is an absolute powerhouse in the wine industry, and we've been fans since she first appeared on the podcast 6 or 7 years ago. Her journey is nothing short of extraordinary. Raised in Medellin, Colombia, she dreamed of making wine as a teenager in a country with no real wine culture. Determined, she moved to France, graduated with honors from the University of Bordeaux, and went on to work at prestigious estates like Haut-Brion. She gained experience in Cote-Rotie with Michel and Stephane Ogier and Domaine Clusel-Roch, then moved to Alsace, Burgundy, South Africa, and finally, California. In California, she worked for renowned wineries such as Peay, Qupe, Au Bon Climat, Lynmar, and Pahlmeyer before establishing her own labels: Cattleya and Alma de Cattleya. She also co-founded Shared Notes with her husband Jeff Pisoni—yes, that Pisoni. On top of her winemaking success, Bibiana now imports coffee from Colombia to roast in Sonoma County for a dedicated customer base. Oh, and did we mention she's also a mother of two? Her wines are remarkable, known for their generous acidity, depth, and length. She was recently featured in *Sonoma Magazine*, where she was photographed by James Joiner, with the photos even developed in her favorite wine. If you haven't tried her wines yet, you're missing out! [Ep339] winesbybibiana.com cattleyawines.com sharednoteswine.com sonomamag.com

Jim Clendenen is one of the most important people in the history of American wine. He established Au Bon Climat winery in 1982, and he’s been named Los Angeles Times Winemaker of the Year, Food & Wine Magazine’s Winemaker of the Year, and the German wine magazine Wein Gourmet’s “Winemaker of the World.” Here, we discussed how his grandmother supported her family, the beauty and rarity of a good business partnership, and how we’re name buddies. There's a saying I was told my first day in radio, and I've watched over the last 20 years in this business be proven time and time again, "it's not what you know, it's who you know". Now, of course WHAT you know is important, but being at the right place, at the right time, and meeting and connecting with the right people, has been a proven part of the best success stories. So when Josh Klapper met winemaking legend Bob Lindquist while working as a somm at an LA restaurant, little did Josh know the stars aligned in a big way. Josh hustled hard as he mentored under the Qupe/Lindquist Family Wines owner and winemaker securing certain hard to find fruit and knowledge one could only get from within those four cellar walls. Along with Bob Lindquist, Josh learned and shared space with Jim Clendenen of Au Bon Climat, and met many on the way that helped shape his hustle, his winemaking, and his ability to score great fruit from great producers. Timbre Winery was born and now has a popular following, still sourcing great fruit, and has a bustling tasting room in the heart of The Village of Arroyo Grande. A newer location for tasting rooms to sprout, The Village in A.G., has been a great place to welcome fans of Timbre Wine, so much so, his mentor, Bob Lindquist later moved in to his own brick and mortar down the street in the village. Convos are always easy with Klapper. We talk real, and he's a funny dude. We talk about why people shit on saignee rose, how to not be a douchey somm, and he drops a nugget of advice that will work for any small business owner! We taste his vineyard designate pinot noirs, his chardonnay, his rose, even his cider. I am a huge fan of Timbre, and after this conv, and after you try the wine, I absolutely know you will be too! They're taking care of folks online, and curbside. You can learn more at www.TimbreWinery.com
This week, Joe talks to Gavin Chanin of Chanin Winery (https://chaninwine.com/) in Santa Barbara. Gavin began his wine education as a harvest intern at Au Bon Climat and Qupé before going on to make his own wine of his own at the age of 21. He tells Joe about about his very hands-on wine education, how he started his own label and what he loves about the wine in Santa Barbara.
We dedicate this week of the NC F&B Podcast to a 2-part Series celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Triangle Wine Experience, benefiting The Frankie Lemmon School. In the early 1990's a group of friends gathered to celebrate their love of wine and to raise money for the Frankie Lemmon School. The gathering became a tradition that eventually resulted in the formation of The Frankie Lemmon Foundation, a non-profit organization that is the school's primary funding source. Each year the foundation organizes a series of wine related charitable events, including the Triangle Wine Experience to generate proceeds, which fund the tuition-free school. TWE Part 1 9:24 & 18:38 Jim Clendenen of 42:14 Announcement 46:24 Winemakers of , Ryan & Megan Glaab We speak with contributors of the event from legendary winemaker Jim Clendenen of Au Bon Climat, New Orleans inspired local chef, Sunny Gerhardt, owner of Lioco Matt Licklider and the married winemaking team of RYME. Ivette attempts a Chardonnay wine tasting with writer/mother Kathleen Dennehy. They only drink a little bit of an “oaky” (oaky is not okay in Ivette’s wine play book) 2014 Au Bon Climat from Santa Barbara. They talk about open adoption, foster child adoption, racial issues, social problems, gender fluidity, teenage rebellion, Catholic guilt, and trying to have sex while the kids are asleep. Not necessarily in that order. www.imtheonepushing.com @imtheonepushing
