It turns out Meghan Markle might just be tuning in to what the internet has to say about her—and sending jam, or at least something that is legally fruit spread, in response.Podcaster Amanda Hirsch, host of the popular *Not Skinny But Not Fat* show, revealed that she received a handwritten letter from the Duchess of Sussex herself after expressing concern about Meghan's Netflix series *With Love, Meghan*. Back in January, Hirsch had said she was “scared for Meghan” over the show's potential reception—nothing nasty, just a mix of cringe and compassion. “I was making cringing faces at the trailer,” she admitted, “but I'm genuinely scared she'll be ripped to shreds.”Get the show without ads. In this episode of What's My Thesis?, host Javier Proenza is joined by Liz Hirsch, co-director of 839—an artist-run house gallery in Los Angeles that reimagines what a commercial art space can look and feel like. Located in a 1920's bungalow, 839 is part of a growing network of intimate, artist-centered spaces shaping the future of exhibition-making in L.A. With a background in academia, curatorial work, and community organizing, Hirsch discusses the vision behind 839: a space that supports artists through solo shows, long-term relationships, and thoughtful engagement. Many of the gallery's artists-including Olivia Gibian, Andrés Janacua, and Nichelle Dailey-have recently presented solo exhibitions at 839, some for the first time. The episode touches on the realities and freedoms of running a house gallery, the gallery's upcoming presentation at NADA New York, and their limited-edition print series designed to make collecting more accessible. This conversation offers essential insights into how artists and curators are building new models of sustainability, intimacy, and care within a decentralized art world. Explore more:
THE MIND IS BURNING is the continued story of the Hirsch family whom we first met in the beloved cult podcast, Dear Franklin Jones. Stranger than fiction, this audiobook memoir follows Jonathan Hirsch's childhood in a cult in Northern California, experience caring for his father battling dementia, and the complicated journey of losing a loved one who mistreated you.On April 9th, 2019, Jonathan got the dreaded call: his father Thomas had been rushed to the ER. He'd known for a while that Thomas's health was in decline, but at this pivotal moment, he had no choice but to step into the role of caretaker—a role Thomas himself was never able to grasp.Thomas was a Hungarian refugee turned spiritual seeker, and Jonathan was along for the ride as his parents chased the high of enlightenment. Thomas's quest eventually led the family to Franklin Jones: known as either a charismatic, eccentric guru or a cult leader and sexual predator, depending on whether you were inside or outside his orbit. Although Jonathan left home the day he turned eighteen, almost twenty years later, he was pulled back into the chaotic fold when Thomas was diagnosed with dementia. This poetic yet propulsive audiobook memoir was created for the listening experience given Hirsch's expertise as an expert aural storytelling, and poses the question: What do we owe each other as family? The path to becoming a physician - and then working as one for the rest of your career - can feel like a highly regimented road, with little room for side journeys. A new book called Improvising Adulthood: What I Wish Someone Had Told Me makes a bold claim: that adult life is a lot like an improv show, where you make one choice, and then another, and then another, and you get to change direction at any time. The author of this book, Amanda Hirsch, wants us to feel empowered to shift ourselves out of auto-pilot and question the scripts we feel we must follow. Amanda is our guest for this special episode in which we explore how her book applies to medical students in particular. There are three copies of her book in our OSA, so please feel free to stop by and borrow a copy!

There is a neglected history. Not a sweeping, definitive, exhaustive history of the world but something quieter, more intimate and particular. Now in this episode, journalist Annabelle Hirsch reveal that history: a single journey, picked out in 101 objects, through the fascinating, too-often-overlooked, manifold histories of women, to show that the past has always been as complicated and fascinating as the women who peopled it. From the objects you thought you knew, like the Bayeux tapestry, to those of domesticity, pleasure (a sixteenth century glass dildo) and subjugation (a thumbscrew), we uncover together the women celebrated by history and of women unfairly forgotten by it alike through its objects and learn that progress is not a linear progression from suppression to emancipation, but beyond all, a history of trying. Returning to the culture at Hamilton Lane, we discuss the importance of culture, collaboration, and data in decision-making as well as establishing cognitive diversity within the teams at the firm. In a discussion of governance and the various board roles that Erik has held and holds, he highlights the need for boards to understand their decision-making environment and have a clear North Star, believing in simplicity, getting people aligned and understanding of the goal. These are, he believes, central to building a better organization. We cover the significance of self-awareness and mentorship in leadership. before rounding up the conversation on Hamilton Lane's culture, and how it is reflected in its humorous videos, showcasing a team-oriented, non-serious approach to finance.Thank you Eagle Point Credit and Benefit Street Partners for supporting this series! STRONGER BONES LIFESTYLE: REVERSING THE COURSE OF OSTEOPOROSIS NATURALLY
Dr. Evan Hirsch is a world-renowned fatigue expert and the creator of the EnergyMD Method, a clinically proven 4-step process to naturally resolve chronic fatigue and long COVID. In this deeply important conversation, we uncover how chronic fatigue, long COVID, and yes—bone loss—are all connected. If you've been diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia and you're exhausted, overwhelmed, or scared of breaking a bone, this one's for you. These aren't isolated issues. They're symptoms of deeper dysfunction in the body. Evan and I walk through what I always talk about—the root causes—and why the traditional approach to bone health is flat-out missing the mark.We talk about toxins. We talk about trauma. We talk about the nervous system. And we talk about how your bones are not weak—they're depleted. From heavy metals to hormone disruptors to emotional patterns you inherited, this episode is going to open your eyes. If you're trying to take back control of your body and your bones, you'll want to hear how Evan's method has helped thousands of people get their energy back and rebuild from the inside out. Because bone health isn't just about density—it's about strength, quality, and resilience. And it starts here.Key TakeawaysThe Toxic 5 Framework – Dr. Hirsch breaks down how hidden toxins—like mold, metals, and chronic infections—are silently wrecking your bones and your energy.Bone Loss and Toxic Burden – Your bones are doing their best to protect you. When they break down, they're releasing toxins stored over decades. It's not a defect—it's survival. Why Lab Tests Often Miss the Mark – Just because your labs say "normal" doesn't mean your body is. If you're tired, inflamed, and losing bone, something deeper is going on.The 4-Step EnergyMD Process – We walk through Evan's practical approach: identify your causes, restore what's missing, prep your detox channels, and remove the junk. The Nervous System-Bone Health Connection – You can't rebuild a body that feels unsafe. Nervous system dysregulation blocks healing—even when you're doing everything else "right."You're Not Broken—You're Depleted – This is not your fault. And it's not yours forever. You can rebuild stronger bones and reclaim your energy—naturally, and on your terms.Where to Find Our GuestDr. Evan Hirsch's Website: http://www.energymdmethod.comFREE Facebook Group: http://energymdmethod.com/fbgroupDr. Hirsch's Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DrEvanHirsch/Dr. Hirsch's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/evanhirschmd/Links & ResourcesStronger Bones Lifestyle CommunityJoin a supportive space to strengthen your bones naturally with live sessions and masterclasses. Welcome back to Just For This. Each week, host Rabbi Liz P.G. Hirsch (she/her) interviews women in leadership about women and leadership. She is senior rabbi of Central Synagogue in New York City. She's the first woman to lead Central's Reform congregation in its 180-year history. She first joined Central Synagogue as senior cantor in 2006, and she was chosen by the congregation to be senior rabbi in 2014. We discuss the deep connections Jews have with each other around the world, the importance of ideological diversity, and why listeners should “Vote Reform” in the current World Zionist Congress election. Visit www.zionistelection.org to vote or www.vote4reform.org to learn more about the importance of standing up for our Reform values in Israel. By voting for the Vote Reform slate, you are standing up for a democratic and secure Israel and against our opponents who want to strip Reform Jews of their rights and funding. Did you know that the average age for a first Botox injection is reportedly now just 26? Wild, right? That's just one sign of how deeply ageism is woven into our lives - whether it's in the workplace, healthcare, or even just the way we see ourselves. So, today I am chatting with Dr. Stacey Gordon, a senior fellow at NYU's Center for Health and Aging Innovation, and Aubrey Hirsch, an author and illustrator, about their incredible public art installation in New York City, “What About Age?” This 13-panel exhibit at NYU's Kimmel Windows puts ageism on full display - literally. We dive into why they created this project, what it was like watching college students actually stop and think about aging, and how they turned big, complex issues into eye-catching, can't-ignore-it street art.The response has been HUGE - from people stopping and taking photos, to my LinkedIn post about it that went viral (yes, really - 2.4 million views!). Stacey and Aubrey also unpack how ageism impacts women, how it's weirdly still okay to make ageist jokes, and why younger people need to care about this too. Tune in and let's talk about why ending ageism isn't just important - it's long overdue! And if you're in New York before March 18th, don't miss the exhibit!“Ageism is not just ageism. It's part of a larger social structure that comprises laws, policies, macro-level issues, and communal institutions like healthcare and the workplace.” ~Dr. Stacey GordonIn This Episode:-How the “What About Age?” exhibit is challenging ageism -Why age discrimination is often overlooked, and how it affects everyone-The unexpected response to the “What About Age?" exhibit-How women face age-related biases-Age stereotypes across industries and demographics-Practical steps we can take to challenge stereotypesAnd much more!Link to an article about the NYU Art Exhibit: https://www.nyu.edu/about/news-publications/news/2024/september/nyu-s-kimmel-windows-presents--what-about-age---oct--1-march-18-.htmlConnect with Dr. Stacey Gordon:-LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/staceygordonempa -The Wrinkle Project: https://www.wrinkleproject.org/Connect with Aubrey Hirsch:-Website: https://aubreyhirsch.com/-Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/aubreyhirsch/ -Substack: https://aubreyhirsch.substack.comConnect with Maureen Clough:-LinkedIn: maureenwclough - https://www.linkedin.com/in/maureenwclough/-Website: itgetslateearly.com - https://www.itgetslateearly.com/-Instagram:
