Our team will discuss what went right in the regular season, what went wrong in October, should the Braves have done anything differently in the NLDS and how this year should be remembered. Plus, we will also look at the new playoff format, the emergence of the next wave of Baby Braves and our thoughts on Matt Olson's first season. Welcome back to another Episode of Passion for the Pastime. This week we will begin to look at each individual division throughout baseball, and what better place to start than the most competitive division in MLB, the NL East. After all they do have the Defending World Series Champions, Washington Nationals. The Nats still boast one of the best starting rotations in all of baseball. Their offense, however, took a huge hit when they lost their star third baseman, Anthony Rendon, when he left for the Southern California Sunshine when he signed with the Angels. Fortunately for the Nats, they weren't the only team that lost a star third baseman. Division Rival, Atlanta Braves lost Josh Donaldson to the Minnesota Twins, so two of the top teams in the NL East took a blow to their offenses. What do the Braves have that the Nationals don't have? Ronald Acuna and Ozzie Albies, oh and Freddie Freeman. The Baby Braves look to make the postseason again, but this time, not have as quick of an exit. Two teams that missed out on the Postseason last year, but are still very much a threat in the NL East are the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets will look to health as a key for this seasons success, as they have many of the same pieces returning. The Phillies missed out on signing Rendon as well, but they added the former New York Met, Zach Wheeler, to get their starting rotation on par with the rest of the Division. The Marlins, well are the Marlins and are just along for the ride, but they have some pieces that could be on some contenders come trade deadline. That's the NL East in a nutshell and its going to be a hell of a battle for the crown. On this episode of the GSMC Baseball Podcast host Tom Dougherty recaps the games from early in the week, goes over some late trades and talks NL East. In the NL East the Phillies still hold a slight edge over the Braves. Both the Braves and Phillies have followed a similar formula, as both teams were at the bottom of the league for quite sometime, gaining high draft picks and moving big names for prospects. Now, in a division many thought would be an easy win for the Nationals has now seen them be left in the dust by the Baby Braves and the Fantasic Phils. Tom talks about the Phillies and their chances of getting hot late in September and making a run, their rotation is primed and ready and their lineup of veterans and solid youngsters could make for a nice run.

It’s been a while. In our undoubtedly most immature episode to date, we do quick hits on Josh Allen calling Stephen A in the middle of the night, Shohei Ohtani, the Baby Braves, and Scary Terry/Drew Bledsoe. Eric Bledsoe endorses a veggie burger that is actually pretty good. We take a closer look at the potential new landscape of gambling in sports, and the NBA playoffs so far. I apologize to Al Horford, who I feel bad about insulting once. Dee educates me on the recent annihilation of a particular body part belonging to WWE Superstar AJ Styles. We taped this while we were watching Celtics/Cavs and it was maybe not as good of an idea as I thought.
Take it away.
