The Philadelphia Phillies have been sitting in 3rd place of the NL East for what feels like the entire season, and haverecently slipped out of the NL Wild Card spot for the MLB Playoffs. Do the Phillies have a chance at seeing some Postseason action? They are currently half a game behind the St. Louis Cardinals who got destroyed last night by theToronto Blue Jays. Tonight we will go over what would have to happen over the next few months in order for the Phillies to get back into the Playoff picture and secure a spot playing postseason MLB baseball. The Phillies have found themselves at the beginning of a losing streak following the dismal performance against the Chicago Cubs which resulted in Chicago sweeping the 3 game series. Then last night Kyle Schwarber, Nick Castellanos and company failed to secure the win over the Atlanta Braves losing 6-3. The Philles got their revenge on the defending World Series Champions earlier today with a 7-2 victory thanks to Alec Bohm, Odubel Herrera, Kyle Schwarber and J.T Realmuto setting the Phillies up for an early lead that the Braves were unable to overcome.

Closing out another month with nothing but rapid fire opinions and analysis on everything that's going on in the world of sports. I got you covered with all of the latest and greatest. On deck: (4:42) Subway Series Round 1 goes to the New York Mets as they complete a two game sweep of their crosstown rivals, the Yankees. I'll break down the key contributors to the Mets victories, the possible return of Jacob deGrom, the Yankees trade for an outfielder (which means the likely end for Joey Gallo) as they move on to the next series before their second encounter next month at Yankee Stadium. I'll take a peek on what developed over the last few days (i.e., the Astros get SWEPT by the A's? The Blue Jays winning streak gets snapped. A big game for the Orioles vs. Tampa Bay to keep themselves in the AL Wild Card mix. The Red Sox free fall. Some separation in the NL Wild Card race as the Giants have plummeted below .500. Is it out of the question that it's set up for a potential not-too-thrilling pennant race during the rest of the regular season? I'll explain in great detail as we approach the dog days of August. I'll also share some thoughts on the first two parts of the Derek Jeter ESPN documentary, The Captain, as we take a brief trip down memory lane on the legendary Yankee shortstop. (30:25) NFL Training Camps are in full effect as the season commences six weeks from today. Kyler Murray has a clause in his contract where it's mandated for him to watch four hours of game film a week. Why is this the case? Who is policing this? I'll discuss this disaster set forth by the Arizona Cardinals and also get into Julio Jones's new home (remember him?) as he's a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. (39:20) The current administration in the US has made an offer to Russia in order to bring back WNBA star, Britney Griner. Will this be executed seamlessly? Could this happen sooner? Or later? Plus, Celtics forward Jayson Tatum made a comment about the teams recent talks with the Brooklyn Nets regarding the services of Kevin Durant. I'll throw in my two cents on that as this topic is near and dear to my heart. "Not good enough. Really frustrating. A level of play that is just not going to be acceptable for us." Those were San Francisco Giants Manager Gabe Kapler's words after the SF Giants got completely overwhelmed by the Dodgers en route to their first four-game sweep vs. their rivals since 1995. The Giants looked like the far inferior team all weekend—and really they've looked inferior to many opponents all season. Where should the Giants go from here? The NL West race is essentially over before it really started. The Dodgers have a 16.5 game lead over the Giants. But at 48-47, the SF Giants are still just two games back in the NL Wild Card race. Their next seven games are against two of the worst teams in the NL. By the time the Aug. 2 trade deadline comes around, they're likely to be still in the race. FanGraphs has the Giants' playoff odds currently at 38%. Could they add someone like Ramón Laureano, who'd help them in 2022 but also in 2023-25? What about Joey Wendle, who'd be more of a rental but wouldn't cost too much and is a plus defender at second, third, and shortstop? The Giants' defense continues to be an embarrassment. Yermín Mercedes is miscast in left field, and it showed on Sunday. All season long the Giants have stuck bad defenders all over the diamond and it has cost them seemingly every night. How do they expect it to improve with the likes of Mercedes roaming the outfield against arguably the best team in baseball? There's a case to be made that the Giants should sell at the deadline, but ultimately the Giants' position in the standings warrants an attempt at salvaging this season. But it's increasingly clear that they must upgrade their defense or they likely won't be playing in October. The Giants need major changes and their last chance to do anything significant is just over a week away. Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

Finally, Connor shares his thoughts on Kyle Schwarber's chances in the Home Run Derby tonight, why he might have a better chance than other hitters, and what the odds say about his chances to make it to the championship and potentially unseat Pete Alonso as the Mets' slugger goes for his 3rd straight win! Next, we take a look at the standings in the NL and in the NL Wild Card race and break down whether or not the Phillies, who are currently in the 3rd and final NL Wild Card spot just above the St. Louis Cardinals, can hold that position during the 2nd half of the season! The San Francisco Giants, surprisingly, had the NL's second-best team ERA in the month of June. Yet they only managed a 13-13 record, their second straight month of mediocre baseball. The Giants are currently on the outside looking in of the NL Wild Card picture, but they trail the final spot by just a single game. The Giants' June overall is evaluated. Carlos Rodón righted the ship in a major way, establishing himself as a legitimate Cy Young candidate. He was easily the Giants' best player this month. Not far behind him was Logan Webb, who has also had an excellent season. The bullpen was also good, led by Camilo Doval and John Brebbia. Alex Wood and Anthony DeSclafani really struggled in June, although DeSclafani only pitched 5.2 innings (but his ERA was near 20.00). It was the position players who were costly. Evan Longoria and Joc Pederson had strong months, but otherwise there wasn't much to write home about. Mike Yastrzemski cooled off in a major way, and Brandon Belt and Brandon Crawford continued to be essentially non-factors. LaMonte Wade Jr. played in just one game in June, but thankfully he is now back. Donovan Walton has played a lot and been a net negative. Jason Vosler's somewhat surprising demotion is discussed as well. Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

Riz & Dawg bring you Monday Night Live during the third game of the ALCS, as the Red Sox once again battered the Astros, and it was on the day off between the second and third games of the NLCS between the Braves and the Dodgers. The guys talked about all the moves happening on the fields, including Houston being left for dead already, even before they got down two games to one. And for the NLCS, how the Braves have a different look this time around against the defending World Series champion Dodgers, who dropped the first two games to Atlanta in the 2020 NLCS and were down 3-1 before rattling off three straight wins to steal the series. There is news off the field, and the second NL Wild Card team the St. Louis Cardinals, parted ways with manager Mike Shildt, who was the 2019 NL Manager of the Year, and led the Redbirds to a franchise-record 17-game winning streak in September that bolstered them to an unlikely wild card appearance, in which they lost in the bottom of the ninth inning. Riz & Dawg took a look at the managers of the teams that own the longest winning streaks in baseball history as a bellwether of where Shildt might stand. Spoiler Alert: It should work out well for Shildt in his next stop. Dawg kicked it off with Veteran of the Day. It was a stirring tribute to Gen. Colin Powell, the former US Secretary of State, who passed away at 84 earlier in the day. This one streamed live on the Facebook group, so there was some lively interaction in the comments. In the 36th episode of The Hardline Sports Talk, the guys start off with the Giants and their pathetic weekend on Eli Manning day. Changes have to be made within the organization and the guys question whether or not the head coach could be on the hot seat or not. (1:06) After the Giants they move to the Jets who have been just as bad as they fall in Denver. The offense doesn't look good and the quarterback hasn't shown much, but Jets fans need to chill out. (17:18) After that they go around the league and talk about the big storylines from week 3, and preview a big storyline for week 4. (31:17) After the break the guys discuss the weekend the Yankees had in Boston as their playoff chances are becoming a reality after the sweep and taking over the number one Wild Card spot. They discuss the first game of the series vs Toronto and what the strengths and weaknesses are of the team heading into the postseason. (1:00:35) Finally they go around the league talking about the NL Wild Card and the awards races as well.
