The Arizona Diamondbacks are closing the gap between them and the NL Wild Card teams. With GM Mike Hazen saying this week that it could take high 80s wins to make the playoffs, are the D-backs where they need to be? Alex Weiner and Dave Burns talk National League, injury returns, Ketel Marte and Star Wars bobbleheads.
The Pittsburgh Pirates had this game in their hands, and then the bullpen completely gave it away. On tonight's NS9 Postgame Show powered by Primanti Brothers, DiNardo and Jim break down the Pirates' brutal 11-9 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies after blowing leads of 6-0 and 8-3. The offense did its job, Braxton Ashcraft gave them enough to win, but the late innings turned into a disaster as Mason Montgomery, Gregory Soto, and Dennis Santana could not close the door. This episode dives into the growing concern around the Pirates bullpen, whether Ben Cherington needs to act quickly, how much blame belongs on Don Kelly, and why losses like this matter when the Pirates are trying to stay in the NL Wild Card picture. The Pirates have shown they can hit. The rotation has been strong. But if the bullpen keeps melting down, it may not matter. For the majority of the 2025 MLB season, the American League Central saw the Detroit Tigers maintain a healthy division lead, holding off any potential challengers. However, the Cleveland Guardians have stormed back from 15.5 games behind to cut the Tigers' lead down to just one game with one week left to play.Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss the incredible comeback from the scorching-hot Guardians and whether the Tigers will ultimately be able to hold off an increasingly unfortunate collapse that could see them miss the postseason entirely. The guys then dive into the Seattle Mariners sweeping the Houston Astros this past weekend, giving them full control of the AL West and putting a division title within reach. Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake and Jordan talk about the New York Mets and their rough weekend against the Washington Nationals, which saw them lose control of the final NL Wild Card spot to the Cincinnati Reds after the Reds swept the Chicago Cubs. Later, the guys discuss Clayton Kershaw's final regular-season start at Dodger Stadium and recap all the other action from MLB this weekend.1:24 – The Opener: Mariners take control13:48 – Wild AL Central update28:28 – Around The League: NL Wild Card is up for grabs44:33 – NL tiebreaker scenarios48:06 – We Need to Talk About: Kershaw's last home start55:48 – Turbo Mode: rest of the weekend action Subscribe to Baseball Bar-B-Cast on your favorite podcast app:
On the latest episode of The Mets Pod presented by Tri-State Cadillac, Connor Rogers and Joe DeMayo look back at a tough week that was for the Mets, and look ahead to the final stretch in the chase for a playoff spot. Connor and Joe feel relief after Pete Alonso's walk-off home run that snapped a long losing streak, and praise the early big league work by young starters Nolan McLean and Brandon Sproat. The guys also go long on the problems at hand, including the veteran members of the starting staff, Kodai Senga trying to find himself in Syracuse, an inconsistent offense, the readiness of Jonah Tong, and the uneven performance of an overworked bullpen. The show then goes Down on the Farm to check in on the minor league playoffs, and goes into the Mailbag to answer questions about the Mets' chances to get the third NL Wild Card, and what their starting rotation would look like in the postseason if they got there.
