The Los Angeles Dodgers will get a much-needed rest for the next several days, and thankfully they head into the All-Star break with a healthy lead in the National League West after taking two of three games in San Francisco. In the series finale on Sunday, Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched a gem, Freddie Freeman had two different go-ahead hits, and Tanner Scott continued his up-and-down season by blowing his seventh save of the year (although the Dodgers are now 4-3 in those games). On Saturday, the Dodgers fought to victory behind dominant pitching from Shohei Ohtani and Emmet Sheehan and offense from Michael Conforto (really?). This week Ron, Elliott, and Pete welcome back special guest Dustin “The Duke” Duquenne as they dive headfirst into last weekend's fireworks at Wrigley, highlighted by an eight-homer beatdown of the Cardinals on the Fourth of July that set league and franchise records (for both teams!). As Elliott, Duke, and Pete gleefully recap every bomb, Ron copes with the Cardinals' ongoing rotation mismanagement – why hasn't Sonny Gray faced the Cubs this year? – and the baffling decision to keep running Miles Mikolas and Erick Fedde out to the mound.Duke brings the chaos, sparking classic banter and adding fuel to the fire during All-Star snub season. The guys vent about Seiya Suzuki's absence from the roster, Michael Busch's case over Freddie Freeman, and the absurdity of fan voting, especially when it gifts Ronald Acuña Jr. a starting spot with only 42 games played.Pete pays tribute to the late Lee Elia with a dramatic, profanity-laced replay of Elia's legendary 1983 tirade – a masterclass in manager meltdowns. They also touch on Andre Dawson's birthday, Wrigley's misunderstood park factors, and the absolute dumpster fire that is Cardinals Twitter/X.Other highlights include:A trade deadline preview and what the Cubs and Cardinals might doMic'd-up players and the awkward Sunday Night Baseball conversation with Masyn WinnThe Nationals' bizarre front office purgeRob Manfred's push for a salary cap and how that might actually workA nostalgic detour into He-Man toys and 80s cartoon logicRon's Soccer Minute: City SC's woes continue, with little hope coming via the transfer windowWhether you're basking in Cubs euphoria or buried under Cardinals frustration, this episode delivers laughs, rants, and the kind of unfiltered takes you've come to expect from the Team of Rivals.Check out Paul Jellison's full YouTube video of Lea Elia's rant.Check out this week's livestream on YouTube, Rumble, Facebook, or X.Follow us on X and Instagram. DV takes your calls and talks to Jose Mota after the Dodgers fall to the Nationals, 7-3. Freddie Freeman talks to the media. Mike Shildt can't let it go.
The Padres and Dodgers concluded their 10th game in two weeks in spectacular fashion with Xander Bogaerts lifting the club and Ryan Bergert delivering a great effort in his 8th game in MLB.ALLLLL that was overshadowed in the top of the 9th however. After Dave Roberts pulled Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman from a still-competitive 5-0 game, Fernando Tatis Jr was hit by Dodgers pitching for the 3rd time in 9 games. Mike Shildt came on the field and called Roberts out, then Roberts rushed in and gave Mike a forearm shiver, sending both benches onto the field. The Padres failed to add to their 5 run lead and Sean Reynolds immediately got into trouble in the bottom half of the frame. Robert Suarez was called in to save the game with two on and one out. He allowed a RBI single and an RBI ground out, setting the stage for Shohei Ohtani to come up with the tying run on deck. Suarez through 3 balls, then hit Ohtani right between the numbers and was promptly ejected. Yuki Matsui came in, threw a run scoring wild pitch and walked Betts' replacement, bring the winning run to the plate. Yuki brought him to a full count before throwing a 92 MPH fastball past rookie Daulton Rushing, securing a win for the Friars in an instant classic.Chris, Raphie and Craig discuss the madness in this free for all Group Therapy.
