The guys are offended for Ken Griffey Jr, that Anthony Rendon has significantly out-earned him in his career...do we buys the Warriors making a run in the West, is the Play-In delivering in its 5th year, and what are Nico and the Mavericks trying to hide?
Brady House, the Nationals' promising 21-year-old prospect, is generating excitement as he prepares for a potential major league debut this season. After experiencing some struggles last year with a career-low .699 OPS due to plate discipline issues, House took a step back during the offseason to refine his skills. Training with seven-time All-Star Paul Goldschmidt helped him develop a better understanding of hitting, especially in managing full-count situations and recognizing pitches. House has changed his mindset to focus on making strong swings rather than simply surviving the count, which has shown improvements in his spring performance, boasting a .333 batting average and an .821 OPS. As the Nationals seek a long-term solution at third base following Anthony Rendon's departure, House's defensive skills and offensive potential have drawn comparisons to a young Ryan Zimmerman. Despite a rough season in 2024 that saw him fall off many top prospect lists, the team's decision to sign Paul DeJong on a one-year deal suggests they still harbor confidence in House's abilities. With 19 home runs last season and a focus on improving his plate discipline, fans are eager to see how he develops and contributes to the team's future.

On the latest episode of the FutureSox Podcast Ian Eskridge and James Fox discuss Pitchers & Catchers reporting, starting with the fallout of the Ky Bush injury and what it will mean for the roster in Charlotte and Chicago. They moved into the signings of Michael A. Tater (Taylor) and Joey Gallo, and what that could mean for the depth chart in Chicago. The NCAA season is underway and Ian and James talk about some of the breakout performances and possible picks for the White Sox at #10, while also mentioning the changes to the drafts with the Alex Bregman and Nick Pivetta signings. Ian and James finished things off with happenings across MLB, starting with Bregman, moving to Anthony Rendon's hip surgery and what it means for the Angels, TA, and Yoan, plus the Cole Ragans contract renegotiation. The show ended with a new segment, dragging with Jimmy Hoax. James and Ian discuss some X/Twitter beef about James' takes on Andrew Vaughn across the years.
The Washington Nationals have made a significant roster addition by signing former All-Star shortstop Paul DeJong to a one-year, $1 million contract. DeJong, known for his power-hitting abilities, will transition to third base, a position that has faced consistency challenges since Anthony Rendon's departure. At 31, DeJong's extensive experience is expected to bolster the Nationals' power-hitting capabilities after they finished last in the National League with only 135 home runs last season. To accommodate DeJong on the 40-man roster, the team placed right-hander Josiah Gray on the 60-day injured list due to his recovery from Tommy John surgery. With DeJong joining the team, fans are optimistic about the upcoming season, especially with his right-handed bat providing valuable options against left-handed pitchers. Manager Davey Martinez and General Manager Mike Rizzo are focused on building a balanced roster while nurturing promising prospects. DeJong's prior experience at third base and the addition of veterans like Amed Rosario, alongside young players such as José Tena and Trey Lipscomb, will create a competitive environment as the team prepares for spring training and a potential turnaround season.

The last holdout for notable free agents has finally signed, as Alex Bregman and the Boston Red Sox agreed to a deal late Wednesday night that sees the former Houston Astros third baseman taking his talents to Beantown. While the move isn't entirely shocking considering both the team and player have been connected throughout the offseason, how Bregman fits is the next question.Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss why it was a logical move for the Red Sox to acquire the former All-Star, if Bregman will opt out of his contract following 2025 and the possible reason he chose to play for the Red Sox and manager Alex Cora instead of reuniting with A.J. Hinch in Detroit for a longer deal. Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, the guys discuss Nick Pivetta and Kenley Jansen signing deals out on the West Coast, as well as talk about one of the bigger problems the New York Yankees might be facing this season. The Nats lost their fifth in a row on Friday afternoon, but there were positive items to focus on amid defeat. Mark (From Chicago) & Al gather after the Nationals 3-1 loss at Wrigley Field that keeps the team stuck at 68 wins. Trevor Williams had a solid outing after returning from a long stint on the IL; he only allowed one run in five frames in his first appearance since May 30th. Williams has one start remaining and these outings might serve as a de facto tryout for 2025. (17:00) The only Washington run came off of James Wood's 8th HR of his rookie year. No National has hit 30 HRs in a season since Anthony Rendon & Juan Soto in 2019. (20:10) Crews went 0 for 3 and has not had a hit in three straight games. He is hitting just .211 so far in the majors and his OPS is at .621. (23:00) A long form discussion on if ownership will spend money this offseason? What will Mike Rizzo be authorized to do? Friday night was a banner evening for the Nats organization, capped off with a 3-2 win in extras over the visiting Angels. Al & Mark begin by updating you on the highlights that occurred across the team's minor league affiliates on Friday. They then shine a spotlight on Alex Call, who had walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 10th; his 3rd hit of the day. (08:00) The Nationals past met its future when James Wood had an infield single at the expense of Anthony Rendon. It seemed like Rendon did not realize how much speed Wood has when running down the line. (12:30) Washington benefited from good pitching all night between Mitchell Parker, Jacob Barnes, and Kyle Finnegan. Parker is seriously making a case as the team's best starting pitcher this season and his ERA currently sits at 3.83. (22:00) CJ Abrams was a late scratch and Nasim Nunez filled at SS. Nunez was dealing with cramps late in the game as Mark points out the odd circumstances surrounding his roster status and what that might mean. (24:00) Rendon received a standing ovation from the crowd as it was his first time returning to Navy Yard since the 2019 World Series. Rendon had three singles, but did strikeout in the top of the 10th. Amazingly, the Angels have used more players at 3B since signing Rendon than the Nationals have in that time frame.
