Niet omdat ze het niet kunnen. Maar omdat positionele afhankelijkheid is aangeleerd. In opvoeding. In onderwijs. In organisaties die bescheidenheid verwarren met professionaliteit.In deze aflevering bespreek ik drie patronen die ik keer op keer zie: de conditionering die doorwerkt tot op boardroomniveau, de stilte rond succes die vrouwen onzichtbaar maakt, en de weerstand die te veel leiders doet krimpen op het moment dat het erop aankomt.Dit is geen motivatieverhaal. Dit is een confrontatie met de vraag hoelang je nog wacht op de kamer die knikkebollt vóórdat jij begint.De kamer knikt niet eerst. De kamer volgt als jij al begonnen bent.Wat je meeneemt uit deze aflevering:hoe positionele afhankelijkheid werkt en waar je hem herkent, waarom succes een woordvoerder nodig heeft en jij dat zelf bent, en wat het concreet kost als je blijft wachten op erkenning die je al lang niet meer nodig hebt.

Ik hoor vele verschillende theorieën over AD(H)D om mij heen. "ADHD, dat zit in je genen." "ADHD is erfelijk." "ADHD is afkomstig van trauma." Alsof het een soort biologische blauwdruk is waar je weinig invloed op hebt. Maar wat als dat beeld te simpel is? Wat als ADHD eerder een beschrijving is van gedrag in een bepaalde context, dan een meetbare aandoening? In deze aflevering spreek ik met Sanne te Meerman. Hij is, samen met onder andere Laura Batstra, de drijvende kracht achter het project Druk en Dwars. We praten over hoe de maatschappij ADHD steeds vaker presenteert als iets vaststaands, bijna alsof het een object is in je hoofd. En over wat het met je kan doen als je jezelf gaat zien als je diagnose. We hebben het over: • Waarom ADHD in de DSM eigenlijk alleen gedrag classificeert, maar niks verklaart. • Hoe de rol van genen, omgeving, stress, schoolstructuren en zelfs je geboortemaand samen kunnen bepalen of je als ADHD'er wordt gezien. • Waarom we zo graag geloven in het biologische narratief. We staan stil bij het effect van labels. Wanneer helpen ze? En wanneer gaan ze je bepalen? En we vragen ons af: Wat gebeurt er als je als kind leert denken: “Dit is nu eenmaal hoe ik ben, ik heb ADHD.” Welke ruimte blijft er dan nog over om te groeien? Dit is geen aflevering tegen diagnoses. Het is een uitnodiging om anders te kijken. ADHD is niet iets vaststaands, er is geen eenduidige oorzaak, maar een multifactorieel probleem, waarbij de mix van oorzakelijke factoren voor iedereen heel anders kan zijn. Voor wie zich herkent in ADHD-symptomen, voor ouders, leerkrachten, hulpverleners, of simpelweg voor wie nieuwsgierig is naar wat er gebeurt als we gedrag gaan labelen als stoornis. Lang bleef het gebruik onzichtbaar, omdat het in de horeca vaak normaal is: een paar drankjes na de service, wijn in de hand “omdat het werk is”, en een wereld waar drank (en soms ook drugs) dichtbij is.Thijn vertelt wat er voor hem écht veranderde toen hij stopte: niet zozeer constante trek, maar leren omgaan met emoties en dagelijkse spanning zonder verdoving. Zijn nieuwe aanpak is openheid en verbinding: praten over wat hij voelt, moeilijke gesprekken wél aangaan, meetings bezoeken en mensen om zich heen bouwen die nuchter leven. Ook kiest hij voor stevige structuur: zijn broer beheert zijn geld, om overzicht te houden en vertrouwen te herstellen.Een belangrijk moment is wanneer Thijn in één dag zijn problemen opbiecht aan vrienden, familie en werkgever. Tot zijn verrassing krijgt hij steun in plaats van afwijzing. De grootste uitdagingen nu? AI heeft weer een slachtoffer gemaakt. Daarmee groeit de lijst van getroffenen almaar door: uitgevers, verzekeringsmakelaars, adviseurs, softwarebedrijven, uitbaters van effectenbeurzen, te veel om op te noemen. Vorige week kelderden wereldwijd de koersen van transport- en logistiekbedrijven. Oorzaak was een white paper van Algorhythm Holdings, waarin het claimde dat door AI de vrachtvolumes met 400% kunnen stijgen, zonder extra personeel. Dat betekent lagere vervoerskosten en dus lagere winstmarges voor de gevestigde transporteurs. Sommige Amerikaanse transporteurs, zoals Robinson, RXO en Landstar, verloren die dag 25% aan beurswaarde. In één klap verdampten miljarden. Zet dat eens af tegen de beurswaarde van Algorhythm Holdings zelf: $3 mln. Na het bericht verviervoudigde de koers. Het bedrijfje was eerder bekend als The Singing Machine Company, want het maakte vroeger karaokemachines. Met deze extreme koersbewegingen in kleine obscure aandelen lijkt het alsof we naar de zoveelste aflevering van een tv-serie over memeaandelen zitten te kijken. Maar dit zijn de hypernerveuze koersbewegingen die de huidige AI-angst kenmerken. Nu kan zo’n bedrijfje in theorie met een slim algoritme het bedrijfsmodel van transporteurs finaal onderuit halen. Maar bedenk hierbij wel dat het eigen onderzoek is van Algorhythm Holdings. Beleggers hebben het niet gecontroleerd. Het adagium ‘Shoot first, think later’ viert hoogtij. Met dergelijke extreme koersreacties op dit soort kleine berichten, zou je bijna voorzichtig concluderen dat we dicht bij de piek van de AI-angstgolf zitten. Heel voorzichtig, want keer op keer blijken de koersen van potentiële AI-slachtoffers toch nog verder te kunnen dalen. Een aantal professionals uit de sector stelt dat die 400% simpelweg onmogelijk is. Maar bedenk wel dat zij waarschijnlijk net zo vooringenomen zijn als de schrijvers van de white paper. Beide kanten preken voor eigen parochie.De markt kent dus een hoge mate van hijgerigheid, wat nog eens wordt versterkt door momentumbeleggers, waarvan het aantal lijkt te groeien. Die vorm van beleggen is eigenlijk heel makkelijk. Je koopt iets wat omhooggaat en verkoopt als het daalt. Klinkt als een domme strategie, maar het gaat ervan uit dat Mr. Market meer weet dan jij. Een verstandige basishouding. Of, zoals meesterbelegger Stanley Druckenmiller zei: ‘Als al het nieuws goed is en de koers gaat niet omhoog, verkoop dan je positie. De conclusie lijkt simpel. Met dit soort hypernerveuze marktbewegingen lijkt de piek in de AI-angst bereikt, met nadruk op lijkt. Maar een verstandige belegger wacht eerst af tot het momentum weer omhoog is gericht, anders vang je alleen maar vallende messen op. Wil je dat goed doen, dan heb je niet alleen heel veel ervaring nodig, maar ook een hele grote verbanddoos. There's a TikTok video that looks to be going viral. Now that happens often, but the one thing that stood out to me was a video from a father of three here in Nashville. I read about the video online. His premise is that he's no longer welcome at fast food restaurants like McDonald's and Taco Bell. He feels restaurants are discouraging indoor dining and are encouraging you to use DoorDash or the drive-through window. Heel pines for the days when McDonald's was fun like it was in his youth. In this sermon, we move from the basin and towel to the dark reality that often follows sacrificial love—betrayal. After washing his disciples' feet, Christ makes clear that true discipleship is not measured by ministry involvement or bold declarations of loyalty, but by humble, charitable love toward one another. Yet that love can be tested when it is not returned—when those we serve disappoint, hurt, or even turn against us. Centered in John 13, this message confronts the pain of betrayal, the danger of cynicism, and the pride that blinds us to our own frailty. We will see that devotion to Christ is ultimately revealed in devotion to his people, and that even when love costs us dearly, Christ calls us to serve faithfully anyway.
