This episode of Cite Black Women podcast features a candid dialogue about Black Women's knowledge production and the politics of citation. On Friday, February 26th, 2021, scholars convened virtually at UC Berkeley. The lineup included CBW collective members Dr. Whitney N. L. Pirtle, Associate Professor of Sociology at UC Merced and Imani A. Wadud, PhD candidate in American Studies at the University of Kansas. The featured panelists were Derrika Hunt, Erin M. Kerrison, Frances Roberts-Gregory, Kerby Lynch, Nicole Denise Ramsey, and Reelaviolette Botts-Ward. Caleb Dawson organized the event and it was presented by the Black Graduate Student Association in collaboration with African American Student Development and The Office of Graduate Diversity. The conversation is both powerful and insightful, bringing together multiple points of Black feminist departure to creatively weave a series of alternative ethics, praxes, personal narratives, and radical philosophies around the urgency of Black citation and its future.

CHURCH IS CHANGINGAs the effects of COVID‐19 continue to change the landscape of church ministry, some churches are considering permanent changes. One Baptist Church has seen online participation now three times larger than prepandemic in-person church attendance. Church pastor, Robby Gallaty, says they have begun the process of creating a permanent online church ministry. Pastor Gallaty says that churches predominantly dependent upon a building are going to have a hard time transitioning into the future. ‘Change is constant’, he says, but as the Body of Christ, there must be a willingness to reach as many people as possible even if it’s uncomfortable and different. If the Church doesn’t have a robust online presence it is going to miss where the people are.MESSAGE OF HOPE FOR TASMANIAIn May 2021, Will Graham will be bringing a message of hope to Tasmania. New Life reports that the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association has been preparing for the upcoming Celebration, which will be hosted in the cities of Hobart and Launceston and streamed online. FOCUS OF A MAN OF FAITHHeart Of The Nation, a feature in The Australian newspaper’s Weekend Magazine written by Ross Bilton, tells of an up-and-coming young medical researcher, Dr Caleb Dawson, who works at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute in Melbourne. Apparently, he is ‘probing the mysteries of cancer and the immune system using the esoteric techniques of “3D confocal fluorescence microscopy” in which special dyes and lasers are brought to bear on tissue samples, revealing ever-deeper layers of reality. Dawson’s curious gaze isn’t just detached and scientific. He sees beauty in there too; he sees art. And he sees something even deeper: the hand of God. For as well as being a scientist, Dawson, 28, is also a man of faith, a guitar-strumming Christian who declares his belief in the resurrection of Jesus.

I haven't acted in a while so believe me when I say this, Saturday (04/13/19) was magical. I love that feeling of being watched and cheered on stage. Film lasts forever but stage gives you spotlight and applause in that moment. In episode 10, I continue to talk to the talent and creatives from "Forever Yours". We were blessed to acquire Corrigan as an addition to the cast. The role of Caleb Dawson became his and he turned up during the weekend of the showcase. It was his Instagram that drew my attention; his drawings are so authentic, its as if he traced the imagines and put them on canvas. He assured me that tracing was his thing and he talks about seeing artistry and it being God given to him. He harps of repetition and finding the vibe as the factors that helps him create his master pieces. Sit back, relax and enjoy Episode 10 of the Whats Next!? On Friday February 22, 2019, the Black Graduate Students Association in collaboration with the LUTA initiative at the University of California Berkeley held a special Cite Black Women event alongside the ANTI-BLACK STATE VIOLENCE ACROSS THE AMERICAS symposium that occurred on campus at the same time. This Cite Black Women event, organized by Caleb Dawson in collaboration with Ayana Flewellen, Derrika Hunt, Malika Imhotep and Regan Patterson, brought together dozens of people from the campus community and featured a candid dialogue about citational politics and Black women’s knowledge. In addition, special guest Andreia Beatriz dos Santos, the co-founder of the Winnie Mandela School in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil (our t-shirt sales proceeds go to this school) was also in attendance. This candid and vibrant conversation represents the next generation of the Cite Black Women initiative - young scholars talking about the ways that citational practices influence their graduate school experiences and beyond. Enjoy.
