Years ago, a cardiologist insisted I have a loop recorder installed in my chest. The purpose was to monitor my heart. Little did they know, they created an android. This piece meditates on the history of Black bodies as vessels of experimentation, and how the melding of tech and self has a longer history than one might imagine. The piece is titled PMHx, a medical acronym for Patient Medical History. It originally aired on BBC Radio 4's Shortcuts.A special thanks to C'ne Rohlsen, Axel Kacoutié, C.C. Paschal, Cher Vincent, Zakiya Gibbons, and Veralyn Williams for editorial and artistic guidance.

Audio producer Cher Vincent tells us about the courage it took to walk away from what she thought was her path, not once but twice: first, getting into her dream medical school but deciding not to go, then, leaving the career she chose instead in education. But when you're as curious about the world as Cher is, you never run out of options.

In 1910, a London publishing company debuted what would become the most popular tarot deck of all time: the Rider Waite. But it wasn't Rider or Waite who designed the deck. The Rider Waite was illustrated by a woman, whose name never made it onto the packaging—or into history.
This is the story of two artists who designed popular tarot decks: one filled with art nouveau symbolism and the cats of famed stage actresses, the other packed with New Wave musicians like David Bowie and Debbie Harry. This is the story of two women—born 101 years apart. CREDITS Thank you to Amanda Stilwell of LastCraft for talking with me. You can find LastCraft online and on Instagram. Subi Shah and Cher Vincent are no strangers to the world of deconstructing television: As the hosts of 'Gossip Girls' they know what it means to tackle a show one episode at a time, but they were smart. They picked a show they actually, actively enjoy, whereas we've trapped ourselves in a padded cell with a dopey sitcom we basically can't stand. Thankfully, Subi and Cher agreed to help us bear this wretched cross by watching "Birthday Blues", the episode in which Kimmy finally calls everyone on their shit. Why do they hate her so fucking much? Because her feet stink? As Subi asserts, all feet stink! Butts too. So get the fuck over it, Tanners! Meanwhile, Subi's predictions for the future are scaring the crap out of us, Cher is going into a fugue state while at the bank, and Jon's 21st birthday party was a lame duck disaster. We cannot recommend Subi and Cher's podcast enough, so if you're looking for more TV talk in your life, you're gonna love 'Gossip Girls'. Subscribe today! XOXO

Cher has loved Thom York's Radiohead since she heard a track from Kid A on a joy ride with her dad during a difficult time in middle school. She built out her collection of their early albums thanks to the cashier at her local record store in Hyde Park, IL, giving her recommendations upon her purchasing Kid A, and she's now seen Radiohead (or Thom York solo) a followed-a-band-on-tour number of times and touts a tattoo of the Modified Bear. We talk her emotional attachment to their work, how internet culture has changed how fans of a band interact, and being a fan of something as an atypical member of its demographic. Check out Cher's podcast collective Postloudness, which includes shows she cohosts Gossip Girls and Open Ended. Open Ended is a fellow member of the Chicago Podcast Cooperative.
