225 – If you could ask Jesus a favor, what would it be?If you had met Jesus 2,000 years ago while as he was traveling around healing and ministering to people, what would you ask him for? A healing? Deliverance from a problem? The answer to a burning question in your heart?Lots of people came up to Jesus to ask him for all sorts of things. Sometimes he granted their requests and sometimes he didn't. There's so much to learn from these folks who approached Jesus with a request. In this week's episode I talk about why Jesus answered some requests and why he didn't answer others. Here's who is in the show:JairusVarious religious leaders asking about how to obtain eternal lifeA man who wanted Jesus to get his brother to share the inheritanceMore religious leaders who wanted Jesus to show them a miraculous signPeople who weren't sure if Jesus was the MessiahJames and John, who wanted to sit next to him in heavenly gloryA disciple who asked Jesus how to prayPhilip, who wanted Jesus to show God to himThe crux of the matter: what you want or what God wantsIf you could talk to Jesus, would you ask for something you want really bad? Or would you ask him to show you what God's will is for you?And how on earth do you figure out what God's is will for you? There are some helpful ideas to get you started, plus a previous episode I recommend (see below for link).Who should you pray to, Jesus or the Father? Rabbi Gene kicks off a new series from Paul's letter to the Colossian Church. The church began with a solid foundation, but over time they have been faced with many challenges. Paul addresses these challenges in his letter; and in the first chapter establishes 4 key areas the church will need to focus on in order to tackle these challenges head on.
"Who I Am in Christ" 1 Corinthians 6 - January 23, 2023 Read Here: https://www.bible.com/en-GB/bible/111/1CO.6.NIV . 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. Who I Am in Christ – Please know that you were bought at a price. In Christ, you have infinite value. This is an interesting chapter. In this reading, Paul speaks to how believers should behave. We shouldn't engage other believers in lawsuits because it provides a terrible witness to the world. We shouldn't engage in sexual immorality either. This obviously provides a terrible witness to the unbelieving world but it also degrades our bodies. Our bodies matter. They are temples of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of the Living God resides within our physical bodies. I don't think we consider this enough. We are hard on our physical bodies. We damage our bodies in so many ways and we are kind of flippant about it. Who cares if I eat poorly? Who cares if I don't exercise? Who cares if I do this or that? But we should care! Because these bodies are not really ours. They belong to God. We belong to God. We were bought at a price, a high one! We were bought with the blood of Jesus Christ. Consider this: Your body was bought at a high price. You are valuable, priceless really, to God. Care for yourself, remembering who you are and who is in you! Let's pray…Lord Jesus, We give you glory and praise. Help us remember who and whose we are. Help us care for our physical bodies, even when it's hard, because you care for them. And help us truly care for others. We were bought at a high price. Help me not forget that, Lord. Amen. . https://www.findnewhope.com Our staff and leadership employ what's called the “S.O.A.P. Method”. It stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. Each day, we read one or two chapters of Scripture and focus on one particular verse. We make some observations about how that verse touches us, discern how it applies to our lives, and offer a prayer related to what we have read. - Rev. Hitherto has the Church been seated? If ever there was a time in known history that the Bride of Christ needed to make her presence known and felt, surely it is now. In a time when cults and alternative 'churches' are the order of the day, the real Church of Jesus Christ needs to represent Christ and Him only to a world struggling through these very dark times.
The COVID pandemic has impacted virtually all aspects of our day-to-day lives, including our life in the Church. How has the Church fared in navigating these impacts? Has she distinguished herself in her response, including in relation to restrictions on accessing the sacraments, and to moral and ethical questions surrounding the COVID vaccines? Has Church leadership made a compelling case that, pandemic or not, the laws of God will always supersede the laws of man?Joining us to help grapple with these questions is Philip Lawler, editor of Catholic World News and news director at CatholicCulture.org. PLEASE don’t call us Mormons!—even if you are one. Today, we chat about why my favorite of recent “big changes” in the Church is NOT 2-hour church. We get into coming closer to Christ, particularly through how we speak of Him and His Church. . Matthew 5:27-30 | December 29, 2019 | Hanley Liu Watch the sermon video: https://youtu.be/_9DD0z_xqhI Personal Application Questions: 1) What is the balance between gospel-grace and spiritual discipline? Why is it tempting to emphasize one extreme over the other? 2) In what ways can the church minister to those who have been hurt by adultery? Armed with the gospel, how can you encourage them in Christ? Please take a moment to pray for all the spouses, single parents, and children who have been hurt by adultery. Pray that they would receive healing in Christ and be empowered to forgive those who sinned against them. 3) Taking Jesus’s teaching on adultery seriously, what daily rhythms and practices have you implemented to guard against lust? What role does the Christian community play in keeping you accountable? 4) In a world where emotional affairs and pornography are as prevalent as physical acts of sexual immorality, how does Jesus’s teaching speak to our culture
“Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” (Acts 4:29-30) To His disciples Christ promised that if we ask anything in his name we have it. He strongly encouraged us to be bold in our asking, and to stand firm in the battle against Satan. Unfortunately, just as we can be certain of the fidelity of this promise, we can be sure that Satan will do all in his power to keep us from living by it. So, this week Pastor Kevin asks the convicting question: “Are you standing bold for the gospel of Christ?” Please listen with us as Pastor Kevin digs deep into Act 4 where he discusses the practical elements of boldness in the midst of adversity.

James makes reference to Leviticus 19 dealing with judging one another within the context of Israel. Why would James refer to this passage as an inspired writer laying out the law of liberty?
