Wake up & be amaZing! The first step to Aging with Awesomeness is loving the person you see in the mirror. One of the first things I challenge our Trailblazers to do is imagine talking to their son or daughter and telling them, “there is only one of you. There will only ever be one of you and that makes you unique and special. That's pretty easy for them. The next part isn't as easy. I ask them to say it about themselves. Big crocodile tears. Almost every-time. When you like the person you are, making life choices becomes easier because you trust your own judgment. You recognize that you have the power to create whatever it is that you want for yourself and your family. Liking yourself allows you to share with others all the good you have in your heart. And the more you do, the more positive energy you have flowing in to your life. Set out today to put these tips into action. You'll enjoy your best life ever! It's mock draft season with the lottery set and it's time to take a spin around the internet to see who the Trail Blazers are projected to pick with the 7th selection in the 2022 NBA draft. There are a few consensus targets with Memphis' Jalen Duren, Arizona's Bennedict Mathurin and Duke's AJ Griffin the most common names pegged to land in Portland. However, according to Jason Quick of The Athletic the Blazers might already be looking to trade their pick. Portland had hoped to land in the top four of the draft and grab a franchise altering type talent, but after slipping to seventh GM Joe Cronin, according to Quick, is working the phones and is likely to move the Blazers pick in favor of adding veteran help to a roster that needs upgrades at both forward spots, and wants to be competitive immediately. The Portland Trail Blazers dropped one spot in the 2022 NBA Draft Lottery to lan the 7th overall selection. It was a deflating night at the end of a disaster season. Yikes. So what do they do now? Should they keep the pick? If they do, targets could include Baylor's Jeremy Sochan or Arizona's Bennedict Mathurin. Should they attempt to trade back and drop in the draft while adding another player? Or should they just try to swap the pick for an impactful veteran? One of these is the wrong path, but certainly all of them are on the board. After a walk through the Blazers options, we look back at the history of the seventh pick in the NBA draft to get a sense of what expectations for this draft slot should be. After six months with the interim tag, Joe Cronin was named the Trail Blazers General Manager on Tuesday, signing a four-year deal to be the team's lead decision. The process to hire Cronin as the permanent GM was messy as there was no interview process with other candidates. That doesn't mean Cronin isn't capable of doing the job, but it sends a message that Blazers ownership is not remotely engaged in operating a basketball team. Cronin has had the job for six months and he's already made major moves with the roster. Join Danny Marang live with special guest Ricky O'Donnell of SBNation as they take a look at the upcoming NBA Draft. Together they'll preview Ricky's big board - evaluating where he deviates from others, who he really believes in and who he'd rather stay away from. Does he have a surprise #1 overall pick? Does he buy into Chet Holmgren long-term or does someone like Paolo Banchero or Jabari Smith Jr make for the safer and/or more effective play? With the NBA Lottery less than 2 weeks away, the Trail Blazers have a 37.2% chance of jumping into the top 4 and a 9% chance of landing the number one overall pick. While it's great to dream, the more likely scenario is that they're picking between 6-8. With that, who in that range makes the most sense for right now and/or the future? As guard heavy as Portland is, if the best player available is guard-esque such as Jaden Ivey (unlikely to be there, but still) or Shaedon Sharpe - does Portland need to take the risk of bloating the guard position to make sure they get the most bang for their buck? Or, should the Blazers factor in Damian Lillard's timeline and look to who's most ready now - say perhaps Keegan Murray? Finally, we'll ask Ricky what he would do if he were in charge in Portland. If the pick landed Top 4 and there was an offer on the table for OG Anunoby or Deandre Ayton - would he rather have the sure thing or the rookie scale option and look more towards the future? It's time for more lessons from the NBA playoffs that we can apply to the Portland Trail Blazers. In Miami, Duncan Robinson isn't getting off the bench in the second round of the playoffs. It's a reminder of how shortcomings and particularly shortcoming relative to your teammates are more glaring in the postseason. There are players built for regular season dominance (82 games) and players built for the test of the playoffs (16 wins). How many 16 game players do the Trail Blazers currently have on the roster? In Phoenix, the Suns started big and stayed big despite foul trouble to their top two centers. Where other teams might have gone small Phoenix has a roster built to play the same style of play while dipping into the depth chart. There is value in sticking to your identity. It's a lesson the Blazers should consider when building the roster this summer. And finally, how far from playoff contention are the Blazers right now? Like, today. This moment. Who are the best fits on the current Trail Blazers roster among the top prospects in the 2022 NBA Draft? Starting at the top of the lottery we take a closer look at Auburn's Jabari Smith Jr., Duke's Paolo Banchero and Gonzaga's Chet Holmgren. Which of the consensus top three prospects would fit best with the Blazers and why that matters for a team like Portland. Then we drop down the lottery a bit to look at players in the 6-10 range that would be helpful for the Blazers. Iowa's Keegan Murray, Baylor's Jeremy Sochan and Duke's AJ Griffin could all be intriguing selections. But what about LSU's Tari Eason or Kentucky's Shaedon Sharpe? The Blazers will have plenty of tough choices if their pick falls outside of the top four in the draft. We close the show with a discussion of fit versus best player available and why a team like the Blazers needs to value fit over talent considering their current roster situation and their stated goals for the 2022-23 season. It's fake trade season and it's venture into the trade machine wilderness and go hunting for transactions that will help the Portland Trail Blazers. What does a Justise Winslow, a large traded player exception and a future first land you on the trade market? How about Jonathan Isaac of the Orlando Magic or Kyle Kuzma of the Washington Wizards? With the Blazers in need of a starting level forward and limited avenues to land one would cashing in their chips to acquire Isaac or Kuz be worth it? Let's walk through the logic. And then to close the show a listener submitted trade idea sending Anfernee Simons to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Lonzo Ball? Is the risk worth it for a better backcourt fit? Is an added first round pick enough to soften the blow os losing Ant? Would either team consider this? It's fake trade season! Music for Locked On Blazers by Drae Slapz. How many elite skills do the Trail Blazers have on their roster? A deep dive into the tracking data on NBA.com and bball-index.com gives us a look a the numbers behind the top flight skills currently on Portland's roster. Anfernee Simons and Damian Lillard are both high level pick and roll navigators, but Simons is also an elite spot up shooter and could be growing into a dangerous cutter of the ball. All those numbers give us an outline of what the Blazers might look like with their backcourt pairing for next season. Jusuf Nurkic is going to set a ton of screens, which bodes well for the big man because the numbers suggest he's an elite roll man. Let Nurk work with Simons or Lillard and you've got then ingredients for a potent offensive attack. Nassir Little grades out as an elite scorer coming off screens. When you consider how he might fit into the offensive scheme next season, there's reason for optimism that the Blazers could get more out of this elite skill from their fourth year wing. Josh Hart and Trendon Watford are both elite isolation scorers according to the tracking data. Seriously. Elite iso scorers. What might that mean for two Portland role players going forward? Am I “The Greater Fool”? I've been rewatching The Newsroom on HBO. There's a seen where a cast member explains what a greater fool is and I haven't forgotten that seen or it's message and it was 6 or 7 years ago, but seeing It again and doing what I do and believing what I do has prompted me to share this. “The greater fool is actually an economic term. It's a patsy. For the rest of us to profit, we need a greater fool— someone who will buy long and sell short. Most people spend their life trying not to be the greater fool; we toss him the hot potato, we dive for his seat when the music stops. The greater fool is someone with the perfect blend of self-delusion and ego to think that he can succeed where others have failed. This whole country was made by greater fools.” I think that I can succeed where others have failed. How? I believe that by building a commUNITY of believers, dreamers and doers that think positively, move more, eat better and feel amaZing that I can lead a mission to make healthy the norm! The Trailblazer community is a community of dreamers, believers and doers that think positively, move more, eat better, feel amaZing and above all else we dream big, dream often and dream out loud! A Trailblazer is a pioneer, somebody who's willing to take risks and go in a path that isn't already there. They blaze a trail and leave a path for others.” One of my favorite things about our Trailblazers is the diversity. Trailblazers come from all walks of life and come together and build healthy relationships. You don't have to be any one thing to join. You have to put your ego aside. No one cares if you're richer, poorer, what your SAT Score was slower, heavier, stronger or older than the other Trailblazer. What they love and embrace is that you are you. They love that you try. They know that Aging with Awesomeness is a challenge no matter how rich, poor , fast, strong. old or young you are. Check your ego at the door and do it for YOU! Comparison is the thief of joy. The Portland Trail Blazers want to be competitive right away to begin next season. So with that in mind let's assess the core pieces of their roster to figure out how they go from where they are today to where they intend to be in the fall. Damian Lillard is still going to be a "true beast," as he recently anointed himself on social media. When healthy Lillard has been one of the best offensive players in the league and there's plenty of reason to believe he still has that level of play in his bag. So if Portland has it's star as step one of the core building, what about the rest of the roster? Is Jusuf Nurkic a Top 10 center in the NBA? Is he good enough to overcome small ball heavy postseason basketball? What about Anfernee Simons? Did his breakout season show us enough to think he can be a No. 2 option on a team that makes the conference finals? And finally what about the Blazers wing group? Is Nassir Little a starter on a good NBA team? Can Josh Hart be his most impactful on a team with two star guards? And where does Justise Winslow fit with this group? Let's dive in. Join hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague on this episode of Jacked Ramsays Live. They'll take a look at the upcoming group of free agents as the official offseason moves a step closer. Danny and Brandon will also discuss the impact of Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets getting swept by Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics. What does that do to the landscape? Could big changes in Brooklyn cause a domino effect throughout the league that forces teams to change their offseason plans? (Like, perhaps Ben Simmons and/or Kyrie Irving being put on the trade block?) The Trail Blazers will almost certainly have access to the full Mid-Level Exception (~$10.3m) this summer. What players and/or position groups might they look to target? Invest it all in a back up 5-man like Mo Bamba or Thomas Bryant? Target a 3⁄4 like Kyle Anderson or TJ Warren? Or maybe they split it up and focus on a younger, potential upswing player like Jalen Smith and paying a bit more than a vet minimum to outbid other teams for depth elsewhere? While the class of free agents isn't great, Portland is motivated to get back on track after a “gap year” situation. After losing out on the New Orleans Pelicans' lottery pick there's less room for error around the rest of the roster. So tap in as the guys go over and debate which way the Blazers could go with the tools at their disposal. SUBSCRIBE: YouTube, Twitch, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google and Anywhere You Get Podcasts!
