Join hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague as they answer your questions on this week's Jacked Ramsays Mail Bag podcast. On this week's show, questions about the status and possible outcome of President of Basketball Operations, Neil Olshey have left the organization in a very unique (and let's be honest, entirely awful) position. Does the longer the investigation goes on signal a decision either way? With 20 games in the books and Portland at 10-10, where or how do they stack up with expectations (poll!) and what would it take for you to change your mind about this team? over the next 15 games, is this team more likely to go 10-5 or 5-10? How does this “not a product of the roster” version of the team stack up to last year's team? Have the Trail Blazers had more good wins or more bad losses? If the Blazers continue to struggle and/or hover around .500, will the need for a trade be moved up? That and more on this week's Mail Bag! The Portland Trail Blazers are 10-10 after 20 games, following a loss to the Golden State Warriors on Friday. This episode takes stock of the team at the 20-game mark, looking at the offense and defense compared to last season and asking the the question: Does this team still need a foundation changing trade? Spoiler: Yeah probably. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
On this edition of The Blazers Balcony podcast, Brooke Olzendam and Casey Holdahl give their thoughts on the team 20 games into the season, starting a three-game trip with losses to the Kings and Warriors, Portland's seeming inability to win games on the road, the differences in their statistics between road and home games, a home-heavy schedule in December and spending another Thanksgiving on the road.
Draymond Green is the postgame guest on Warriors Radio following Golden State's 118-103 victory over the Trail Blazers. Tim Roye and Jim Barnett discuss the Warriors picking up their 10th straight home win as they prepare to hit the road to take on the Clippers, and then the streaking Suns.
Join hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague for the Jacked Ramsays Post Game show, streaming live following Friday night's Trail Blazers vs Warriors game. No one in the starting lineup had a game to write home about. Norman Powell left with a quad injury, Jusuf Nurkic couldn't keep the Warriors off the glass (or keep from fouling), Robert Covington was left to do what he wanted (which he could never really figure out), CJ McCollum ball stopped at wildly inopportune times while disappearing defensively and Damian Lillard consistently tried to attack traps, double-teams and help-side pressure. Meanwhile, Portland's bench was scoreless in the first half, not helping really in any manner and with that all in place, Portland was in it with a few minutes to go in the 1st half and then they got Warriors'd. Blitzed in a 16-2 run the close out the half that made it feel like it was a 30 point game in only a manner the Warriors are able to do. The second half saw Anfernee Simons come to life, scoring all of his 19 points in the final 24 minutes on a barrage of 3's and floaters. Combined with some decent shot making by Lillard and McCollum Portland closed the gap to 7 but then the Warriors went Warriors again and that was that. Hop on the post game show as Danny and Brandon work through a team that is now 1-9 on the road with the Utah Jazz up next. In spectacular fashion, the Portland Trail Blazers lost yet another road game by allowing an inferior opponent to score at will from anywhere and everywhere. Unfortunately, tryptophan can't even be used as an excuse for the sluggish defensive effort as the Blazers lost to the Kings 125, 121. Join hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague as they break down an inexcusable effort from the Trail Blazers - dropping a game they had absolutely no business dropping. For all of the “rounding a corner” think pieces that have been put together, this team has yet to put an entire performance of 48 minutes together, let alone multiple games. While the result is often highlighted, the process is where the fruit is born and so far - Portland's process this season has been severely flawed on the road. Jusuf Nurkic and Damian Lillard blew up the box scores - scoring 60 points, grabbing 26 rebounds, dishing out 15 assists and only allowing for 4 turnovers. Output like that should almost always lead to a Blazers win, and yet this season - nothing is assured. Hop on the live show and commiserate as Danny and Brandon try to figure out... whatever this team is. SUBSCRIBE: YouTube, Twitch, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google and Anywhere You Get Podcasts! Jusuf Nurkic has 28 points, 17 rebounds and five assists and the Trail Blazers still lost to the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night. This was supposed to be a celebration of the Bosnian Beast. The 21 Questions Covered: Are the Golden State Warriors the NBA title favorites? Fact or fiction? From the mid-point of last year onward, Stephen Curry has been the best player in the NBA It seems like there is a consistent outrage economy right now surrounding the Brooklyn Nets. The Brooklyn Nets are also 11-5, and currently tied for the first place in the Eastern Conference. How do we feel about the Nets right now, and do we think something is off or that they're fine? The Phoenix Suns are on a 10-game winning streak and look like a buzzsaw again because of Chris Paul. Are we ever going to see someone like Paul again? A small point who lasts into his late 30s and dominates games in this way. How are the Washington Wizards doing this? Which team of the following are you most panicked about? Milwaukee, Boston, Atlanta We're about one-fifth of the way through the season. Who is the team that decides at the deadline that it's time to break up some of their core and make a big trade that acts more as a "seller." Okay, the obligatory three minutes that every podcast must do on Ben Simmons. It feels like this thing goes through cycles of pressure, and that the pressure has been ratcheted down again. A deal isn't close now, but do we think Simmons finishes the season as a Sixer, and what is a potential move that actually makes sense? But speaking of Simmons, the 76ers have a burgeoning star right now in Tyrese Maxey. How has Maxey gone about making this leap into looking like the point guard of the future for the 76ers? The closest team to you for the last couple of years has been San Antonio, so you've gotten a close look at DeMar DeRozan when everyone seemed to tune the Spurs out. Do we think that like, people just weren't watching how good he was last year? Why do people seem to be surprised that he's been as great as he's been in Chicago? The hardest team for me to figure out in the NBA right now is the Dallas Mavericks. They are 9-5. Ostensibly, they're winning games. They are also below the league average in both offense and defense, have a negative point differential, and Luka Doncic hasn't quite worked his way back into the peak of his powers. Are you buying or selling the Mavericks long-term? The Clippers are 9-6 and holding steady without Kawhi. Is there a more important player to his team in the NBA right now than Paul George? Who is the most fun team in the NBA, and why is it the Memphis Grizzlies? Who is the least fun team in the NBA right now, and why is it the New Orleans Pelicans? Every season since 1991, there have been at least two players who have never made the All-NBA team make the team for the first time. Who are your picks for those two players this year? Every year since 2006, there has been at least one new player to make the All-Defense team int he NBA. Who is your pick among players that have never made All-Defense? The Lakers are 25th in offensive rating, and are only 8-8 despite playing the fifth-easiest schedule thus far in the league. Do we think the problems expand beyond "no LeBron James" for the Lakers, or is it just a matter of getting him back and starting to roll? The Nuggets have no Michael Porter Jr. and no Jamal Murray. They are shooting 30 percent from 3. How in the world does this team still have a winning record? How do we think the Neil Olshey inquiry ends following the "fair and independent review" of the workplace environment that he has fostered since running the Trail Blazers? The Cavs are starting to come back down to earth with losses to Boston, Brooklyn and Golden State. Do you believe it's important for them to compete this year, or is it fine if they are still a year away given that they seem to have found the actual organizational centerpiece in Evan Mobley? Have you accepted Pokuism, the belief that Aleksej Pokusevski is your basketball lord and savior? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

KEY TAKEAWAYS Sometimes, when the things we want aren't available, we must look elsewhere for opportunities, even though these opportunities may sound wild at the time. When you start a job or new branch of your career, all we really want is not to stand out. Trailblazers like Jo stand out naturally, which increases the pressure immeasurably. When we stand out from the pack in obvious ways, the best thing to do is to set an example and get through the work, showing that we are capable, despite people's preconceptions. Belief in ourselves comes through proving to ourselves that we can be more than we think. Remove doubts and look ahead. For a second straight game, the Lakers found themselves in overtime, and for the the second straight game they found a way to get a win. In this case, it was against a very good Miami Heat team, which made the absences of Rajon Rondo and Austin Reaves (on top of LeBron James, et al) even more of a potential obstacle to conquer. And the overall performance wasn't perfect. But it was also often quite good on both sides of the ball, and featured strong performances from Russell Westbrook, Anthony Davis, Avery Bradley, and especially Malik Monk, who led the team in scoring with 27 points off the bench. After the win, Frank Vogel and several players noted how last Saturday's horrendous, disengaged loss to the Trail Blazers forced everyone to take a long look in the mirror and honestly assess some problems. A two-game winning streak doesn't mean everything's been fixed, and however great these Lakers can be, that level won't arrive until they have a full roster. What can be controlled until then, however, is their effort and attitudes. It was reassuring (not to mention, fun) to see a better version of both on display. In the meantime, these Lakers are now 3-0 in overtime. (Insert shrug emoji.) Hosts: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky Segment one: The Kamenetzkys react to the win over the Heat, and in particular, how the Lakers have responded since Saturday's dispiriting loss to Portland, which felt potentially dangerous moving forward. Segment two: Russell Westbrook had perhaps his best game as a Laker. Segment three: Malik Monk had absolutely his best game as a Laker. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! After Saturday's nakedly dispirited and lethargic loss to the Trail Blazers in Portland, the Lakers desperately needed to get themselves back in the win column Monday against Charlotte, even without LeBron James (among others). But just as importantly, they needed to just compete again, regardless of the results. As it turned out, both directives happened. The night wasn't especially pretty or composed, and required overtime, but at the end of the day, this 126-123 win offered reassurance that these Lakers aren't completely down on themselves. There was a superstar performance from Anthony Davis (29 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks), who played through a sprained thumb and the lingering effects of a stomach bug. (Dude threw up again during the game.) Carmelo Anthony continues to scorch the nets at Staples Center, putting up 29 points and drilling SEVEN shots from distance. And before getting ejected on a sketchy flagrant-2 call, Rajon Rondo did some brilliant play-making off the bench, setting up basket after basket for Davis. There are still *plenty* of issues to fix, and against opponents better than the slumping Hornets, the Lakers' effort likely wouldn't have been enough. But for the time being, the bleeding has been stopped, and that was extremely important. Hosts: Andy and Brian and Kamenetzky SEGMENT ONE: A huge, superstar performance from Anthony Davis. SEGMENT TWO: Safe to say, the Lakers would be lost without Melo. SEGMENT THREE: Some health updates on LeBron James and Talen Horton-Tucker, plus thoughts on Rajon Rondo's "break in case of emergency" importance on this team. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Saturday's 105-90 loss to the Trail Blazers felt, frankly, like a danger point for the Lakers. The result itself was fairly predictable. The Lakers haven't been playing well, and that's before you factor the difficulty to win in Portland under the best of circumstances, much less a scenario where you're missing LeBron James, Anthony Davis (who bowed out early with a stomach ailment), plus the other absent supporting cast folks. Throw in Damian Lillard itching to bust out of a slump and the L felt inevitable. However, what makes this night potentially worrisome was the Lakers' body language during and after the game. For the most part, they played like a team that quickly assessed itself as dead men walking, so why bother competing? Players castigated themselves for a lack of effort, and it's very early in the season to see a team this dispirited, which makes it easy to wonder about what comes next. Whispers of Frank Vogel's job in jeopardy? Internal finger pointing? The inevitable media noise? And of course, a lot of attention directed at Russell Westbrook, who had one of his worst games as a pro, much less a Laker, and expressed frustration at his struggles to fit in. (Struggles the whole world predicted, by the way.) But could a game against a scuffling Charlotte Hornets on the second end of a road back-to-back be the ticket for what ails them? We preview the game with Walker Mehl from Locked on Hornets and ESPN Charlotte. Hosts; Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: Reaction to the game, and players heavily criticizing their effort. SEGMENT 2: Are we about to hear a lot of noise surrounding the Lakers? SEGMENT 3: Hornets-Lakers preview with Walker Mehl. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
