As a listener of TOE you can get a special 20% off discount to The Economist and all it has to offer! Visit https://www.economist.com/toe In this episode, I speak with Matthieu Pageau, author of The Language of Creation. This is a rare (and almost unbelievable) interview. With a high degree of likelihood, I can say that this interview, if watched all the way until the end, will change your life. Pageau argues that Satan is first a function—the tester and accuser—before a villain. Think Job's auditor or a hired penetration tester. When will-to-power takes over, the function falls. He lays out a symbolic grammar: heaven as plan, earth as materials. Water renews. The feminine crowns and renovates forms. Abraham and Moses act as faithful adversaries. Adam and Eve show what secrecy breaks. Borderline stories like Tamar and Ruth trace exile and redemption. Pageau speaks from his own exile, leaning Orthodox/Catholic, critiquing without grasping for power, and letting reality correct him. Send us a textLeadership isn't linear - and getting it “wrong” is part of the path, including how we learn and shift our understanding of what has always been 'how we've taught it'. In this episode, I talk with Susan Pickering about her experience as a Uniting Church Minister, where she navigated exploring her own understanding of theology, how some things have been taught more to control than to inspire and empower, how she addressed bigotry and ministered in support of equal rights, and what she's doing about it in her work. This message emphasizes that the ultimate proof and power of a true church is not found in doctrine, programs, or appearances, but in sacrificial, Christlike love for one another, which makes Jesus visible to the world.
Someone in our community just died of suicide. What can I be ready to say or share when people ask me about his death? My son tells me I need to go to a real church, my baptism doesn't count, and I'm not reading the true Bible. Help me! My husband passed away five years ago, and since then I've been helping others. Now, I need a job and place to live. What should my next steps be?
In modern times, we've become accustomed to being bombarded on a daily basis with scam attempts. Would it surprise you to know these date back to Bible times as well? We'll expose one such scam artist with the objective of learning the difference between “Feeling Good” and “Feeling God.” Acts 8:9-25 Learn more about your ad choices. One paranormal museum in West Virginia has the answer with an infamous display of the 666 Bible. "With All Boldness and Without Hindrance." We'll explore the courage and perseverance of the Apostle Paul, and how we can apply these lessons to boldly live out our faith, no matter the obstacles. Don't miss this inspiring message!
This weekend concludes Luke’s account of Paul’s life, Luke’s account in its entirety, and the last weekend Timberline Church’s Lead Pastor, Dary Northrop, will be with the Timberline Windsor church family. And yet, somehow, the main point isn’t about any of that… It all comes down to Acts 28:31!
Headed to Rome to stand trial, Paul’s journey was marred by hardship & doubt. But God meets him in the midst of the despair, promising him and all who are with him deliverance. When we face despair and then the divine assurance of salvation, will we respond in action? (Why wouldn’t we?!)
Join us for a powerful service as we dive into Acts 27. Just as Paul faced the raging sea with unshakable faith, we’ll explore how to trust God through life’s trials. Don’t miss this message of hope, resilience, and divine protection!
In this video, we explore the powerful journey of Paul through Acts 24-26. Despite facing trials, imprisonment, and challenges, Paul remains steadfast in his faith and mission. His testimony and courage offer valuable lessons for us all about perseverance, truth, and trusting God’s plan even in the midst of adversity. Join us as we reflect on how life’s journey mirrors Paul’s unwavering commitment to his purpose, no matter the obstacles.
Paul’s arrest continues to play out like a courtroom drama. All the while, however, Paul has never been more sharp, and never been more focused. The ways in which this man’s faith is bolstered in the midst of hardship and injustice teaches us something powerful and convicting about the truth he was living and dying for.
Let us follow Paul as he turns back home to Jerusalem and captures moments with people along the way.
As Paul turns to Jerusalem (in many ways modeling Jesus's fateful turn toward Jerusalem), we explore ways in which God shares wisdom and even caution with people, but perhaps not to deter them but to more fully prepare them. When facing some of the greatest hardships (as Paul undoubtedly was), God often graciously takes steps to ensure we have counted the cost and fortified our strength, and yet perhaps not our full understanding.
Sr. Pastor A. A. Jackson shared this message live at the Island Nursing and Rehab Center on 3/9/25. It is based mainly on 1 Corinthians 15:58. The Holy Spirit is calling all Christians to rise and devote themselves to daily worship, which is the daily, ongoing work of the Lord… any good work that He […] The post Will the Real Church Please Stand Up? appeared first on Realm of Agape Christian Church.
Join us for a meaningful livestream as we explore the theme 'A Life Well Lived' based on Acts 20. Together, we'll reflect on living with purpose, faith, and integrity, following the example of the Apostle Paul. Don't miss out on an inspiring conversation about what it means to live a life that truly matters!
In Paul's final stretches of ministry free from imprisonment and impending martyrdom, we find him taking long voyages and long stretches of time to speak with and encourage the believers. The ways in which Paul sets his priorities in these final days reminds and challenges us to proactively set our priorities so that distractions and disorientation cannot disrupt the greater plans of God in us and through us.
Join us live for the sermon "A Clash of Cultures" as we dive deep into Acts 19—a passage that challenges us to reflect on how spiritual values confront and transform the prevailing cultural norms. In this message, we explore: • How the Gospel disrupts worldly systems • The transformative power of faith in the midst of cultural tension • What it means for us to live as counter-cultural ambassadors in today's world Tune in, engage with us in real-time through the chat, and discover how ancient truths remain powerfully relevant for our lives now. Don't miss this opportunity to be inspired and equipped to stand firm in your faith amidst a rapidly changing culture. See you there! #AClashOfCultures #Acts19 #LiveSermon #FaithAndCulture #GospelMessage
Across a power-packed passage, this weekend we find a special opportunity to lean into the Lord in seeking healing. What does it mean to trust the Lord in seeking physical healing when we are not promised a particular outcome?
Today we explore the Apostle Paul's missionary journey to Corinth, where he faces opposition but remains steadfast in spreading the Gospel. The Gospel is available to all people, regardless of their background or past. Drawing parallels between ancient Corinth and modern cities like Las Vegas, we see how the Gospel can shine brightly in the midst of a sinful world. Through the story of Paul and his encounter with the synagogue leader Crispus, we encourages believers to share their stories of transformation and to continue spreading the hope of Jesus to those who are far from God.
Join us live as we dive into Acts 18 and explore "The Encouragement Tour"—Paul’s journey of perseverance, divine connections, and God’s faithfulness. Discover how encouragement from the right people at the right time can strengthen our faith and mission. Don’t miss this powerful message of hope and endurance! #Acts18 #EncouragementTour #BibleStudy #Faith
Join us as we dive into Acts 17, where Paul visits Athens, the intellectual heart of the ancient world. Home to great philosophers like Plato, Socrates, and Aristotle, Athens was once the epicenter of philosophy and thought. Discover how Paul engages with this legendary city and its philosophers, sparking new conversations and challenging the ideas of the time.
Across three different situations, and through the faithful missions extension of Paul and company, the Gospel meets communities uniquely where they are. God's faithful reach to all people is greatly highlighted this weekend, and is the sort of thing that each of us has the opportunity to participate in. God meets individuals and communities in the midst of their unique questions, and then so much more!
Facing hardship, opposition, and violence, Paul and Silas find themselves imprisoned, only to take that opportunity to begin a midnight prayer and worship night. That point, that moment served as the pivot-point for everything in the story. Then and now, the truest Freedom Fighters proclaim that worship changes everything!
Acts 16 shares the incredible transformation stories of 3 new believers. Lydia is the first convert in Philippi, a girl who was possessed by a demon and in slavery is freed, and the jailer overseeing Paul and Silas miraculously comes to faith along with his entire household! These stories inspire us and call us to worship God in all circumstances. Our worship breaks chains and brings freedom!

This weekend we will look at Acts 16:1-15 to reflect on what happens when we respond to Jesus' call, but get stymied in some way when we think we are following him. Just how does "being led by God work" in those moments?
Join us for our next session as we dive into Acts 15, where early church leaders face a pivotal moment of disagreement and resolution. In this chapter, we’ll explore the debate over Gentile believers and the requirements of the Law, and how the early church worked through conflicts to find unity in mission and faith. Is it possible to agree to disagree, or is there a clear answer? Let’s discuss the power of resolution, understanding, and the Holy Spirit’s guidance in moments of conflict. Tune in as we unpack this important moment in church history and its relevance for us today.

What is church? Why is it important? How does it relate to your life? And how has it been redefined in today's culture? You know, a lot of different institutions use the word church that don't really align with Jesus's original statement — I will build My Church. This series, Real Church, is designed to give us an understanding of how a real church should function and how we fit into God's eternal plan for changing the world.
