Hey, this is Aleksander Great with the 55th I Don’t Give An X radio show recorded at ECO Festival 10th anniversary in Slovenia. I played at the Techno stage together with Dax J, DJ Gumja, Frank Kvitta, and Veztax, Tomy DeClerque and myself from Fourfloor family. The vibe at the festival was astonishing! Great to see people from all around the world together with a common purpose and sharing the love for techno music. For this radio show I included most of my released and unreleased tracks together with music from artists like Ken Ishii, Gary Beck, Aiken, Slam, Len Faki, Tomy DeClerque and others on labels like CLR, Devotion, Soma, Cocoon and Fourfloor. I hope you’ll enjoy this radio show and let me know which is your favourite track! See you in the next one! Ian Dommisse is an Architect from Cape Town, South Africa. After learning about eco bricks, an innovative “invention” that uses unrecyclable plastic waste to make building materials, he founded the Ecobrick Exchange, “an environment awareness enterprise that facilitates the construction of preschools in underprivileged communities using unrecyclable plastic waste”. Their programmes “empower individuals to address the shortage of quality education facilities, implement sustainable waste management systems and raise environmental awareness.” We managed to catch Ian while the Ecobrick Exchange was on their big Winter Tour, a series of educational events held in Winter throughout South Africa. Specifically, we managed to gatecrash an epic Eco Festival called the Festival of Action, run by Greenpop (a tree planting eco-education organization, popularizing the green movement in South Africa) and boy are we glad we did, it was outrageously inspiring to see the work these folks do in action – Ian and the Ecobrick Exchange team included! We managed to find a semi-quiet spot, nestled on the outskirts of the Knysna Forest to sit down with Ian and chat about the wonder of ecobricks and how they can be (and are being) used as a powerful tool to tackle our huge plastic pollution problem. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Find the show notes here ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ *** SOCIALIZE WITH US *** Website Instagram Facebook Twitter YouTube

We live on a planet of majestic proportions, teaming with life within a biosphere of mega-trillions of beings. From the microscopic and invisible to the macro-captivating mega fauna, from viruses and bacteria to the great blue whales and kauri and redwoods. To the council of all beings - all breathing in concert and growing and surviving within the seasonal cycles of a fecund yet increasingly stressed mother planet. However - what of the future, where are we going as a human species? What is the destiny of our planet in these rapidly changing of times? And who best can speak to these challenges, other than the races and cultures who have held onto the old ways - the indigenous, the first nations - the ones who keep the soles of their feet firmly planted on the surface of the great mother, Gaia, Papatuanuku, our profound sustainer. Listen to an inspiring introduction to what this weekend will share. This engaging discussion with representatives of this forthcoming event is persuasive and captivating. Knowing that there are devoted people, 'being the change we want to see in the world' is heartening. Let's support them by furthering this notion as we mobilise to care for our individual and collective future - for all biota.

Betsy McCully is the author of City at the Water’s Edge: A Natural History of New York (Rutgers University Press, 2007). Spanning a billion years, the book offers a “deep time” perspective on New York, casting the city as a human habitat in the Lower Hudson Bioregion—a place shaped by powerful natural forces over eons and a place more recently reshaped by human hands. Her new book (now under contract with Rutgers UP) treats the environmental history of New York since colonial times, with particular focus on how New Yorkers have not only reshaped the city’s topography to accommodate their city, but also tried to address pressing environmental problems even as they were creating them (under contract with Rutgers UP). McCully began researching both books twenty years ago, and has amassed a wealth of materials drawn from libraries, archives, interviews, and years of “walking the terrain” of New York. She has given numerous talks on New York’s fascinating and complex natural and environmental history. An Associate Professor of English at Kingsborough Community College/CUNY, she coordinates an annual Eco-Festival, which won the 2008 CUNY Sustainability Award. She also maintains an educational website, www.NewYorkNature.net. When she is not writing, lecturing, or teaching, Betsy finds time to go birdwatching with her husband in the environs of New York City and beyond.
