"We have an incredible capacity for healing, if we just give ourselves a chance." In our penultimate episode of Season Two, Courtney is delighted to welcome Terence P. Ward to the show! Terence is the author of Empty Cauldrons: Navigating Depression Through Magic and Ritual. In this conversation, Courtney and Terence talk about their experiences with depression, and Terence shares some of the healing strategies found in his book. Terence and Courtney both write, and a good portion of this conversation centers on words: the differences and similarities between Paganism, Wicca, and witchcraft; conceptions of, and misconceptions about, depression; how to reframe the narrative about life and the challenges we face. They also ask the question: In terms of healing practices, which is "traditional"? Psychology in the Western tradition or ancient practices handed down generation after generation? And what, exactly, is "spicy psychology"?? Additionally, Terence discusses the practices of journaling that he writes about in Empty Cauldrons, as well as healing strategies that incorporate spellwork. About our guest: Terence P Ward is a money-worker, journalist, Hellenic polytheist and Quaker who lives in the bucolic Hudson Valley with one spouse and an ever-changing number of cats. Terence is a temple priest of Poseidon with Temenos Oikidios, based in Rhode Island, and a minister ordained through Church of the Sacred Earth: a Union of Pagan Congregations in Vermont. BIO: Rev. Matthew Fox, PhD, author, theologian, and activist priest, has been calling people of spirit and conscience into the Creation Spirituality lineage for over 50 years. His 38 books, lectures, retreats, and innovative education models have ignited an international movement to awaken people to be mystics and prophets, contemplative activists, who honor and defend the earth and work for justice. Seeking to establish a new pedagogy for learning spirituality that was grounded in an effort to reawaken the West to its own mystical traditions in such figures as Hildegard of Bingen, Meister Eckhart and the mysticism of Thomas Aquinas, as well as interacting with contemporary scientists who are also mystics, Fox founded the University of Creation Spirituality. Next Level Soul with Alex Ferrari: A Spirituality & Personal Growth Podcast
Rahelio Rodriguez has been in Sedona over the past 28 years arriving on the summer solstice of 1987. It was a very exciting time to be in Sedona, especially because of the Harmonic Convergence gatherings as related to the prophecies from the Toltec lord Quetzalcoatl for August of that year. By 1988 he began working as a Sacred Earth vortex tour guide and eventually started his own company in 1990, Sedona Nature Excursions, with his specialty Mystic Tours. During the 1990's he worked with many people very eager to experience the energy of the Sedona red rock country and its famous vortex energies. And this gave him the opportunity to develop his own unique way of teaching and sharing shamanic wisdom and healing methods while out in the beauty of the sacred landscape of Sedona.Rohelio's approach combines wisdom teachings from eastern Yogic traditions, Taoist wisdom, Christian mysticism, and Native American shamanism. He was especially drawn to the teachings of Toltec wisdom that has come out of Mexico and to the practice of Kriya yoga through Babaji's lineage. Since he was already very deep into the practice of western astrology, he was able to merge this perspective into the teachings of the Medicine Wheel as taught to him by Sun Bear. Regarding his Indian ancestry, it comes from Mexico; although he was born in the Midwest of the United States, where he grew up, Rahelio recognizes himself as an American-born Toltec. His awakening to the shamanic path was preceded by a number of mystical experiences he had at the beginning of his teenage years that jolted his reality. And these experiences continued throughout my life, where he had profound encounters with Spirit Powers and intelligence from alternate realities. At the age of 21, he was telepathically contacted by his ascended Master teacher, that began his conscious journey onto the spiritual path. Back in the late 70s, when he attended the College of Marin in northern California, Rahelio was involved as head of a Native American student organization that worked for public awareness of the issues of Native American political rights, land disputes, etc. At that time, this opened his eyes to the struggles of indigenous peoples throughout the Americas and the world. Later while living in Maui, Hawaii, Rahelio pursued spiritual and metaphysical studies and had experiences that facilitated his becoming a professional astrologer and mystic. Since he was working as a spiritual guide, astrologer, and healer, Rahelio was invited to be ordained as a minister into the Order of Melchizedek on Bell Rock in 1988 by the Reverend Dan Chesbro. And since 2012, he has been a legal member and medicine person of the Oklevueha Native American Church, as well as the head of my own Native American church ‘Toltec Sun Ministries.' he conducts Native American style weddings, Sweat Lodges and blessing ceremonies, as well as, share shamanic teachings and energetic practices including Medicine Wheel empowerments with sacred drum, flute, songs, and chants. Please enjoy my conversation with Rahelio Rodriguez.

This week is an encore episode of a popular meditation while I am away at a seminar. “The Perfect man/woman breathes through their heels, while the ordinary man/woman breathes through their throat.” Chauang-tzu (updated with modern pronouns) In this episode we are breathing through our heels and practicing a gentle walking meditation. Through our connection to the Earth with our heels, we bless our earth and heal her, while also healing ourselves. We recognize our inner work of aligning with and amplifying frequencies of Harmony, Beauty, Joy, Peace, Abundance and Perfection. We breathe these frequencies into our entire being, that we may be a blessing to all as we walk our sacred ordinary lives. ‘Lord of Harmony' music by Sanaya Roman (orindaben.com)Podcast production by Marc Ronick (ironickmedia.com)Disclaimer:Breath exercises are not intended to diagnose or treat illness. Anyone undertaking to practice breath awareness and exercises should be mindful of their health and consult their health care practitioner if they have any questions about their fitness for this practice.

I talk about a song called “Lads in the Shire”. The lyrics were inspired by Wolf Loescher's song. Though of course, they are about Lord of the Rings, which is rather timely since a new Lord of the Rings prequel is coming to Prime Video next month. 18:42 - FEEDBACK 21:36 - Andreas Transø "If" from The Earth and Everything in It 24:32 - Sharon Shannon "Pull Out The Stops" from Sacred Earth 27:40 - McKasson & McDonald "Mark the Hard Earth" from Harbour 32:39 - Gerry O'Beirne & Rosie Shipley "Air" from Yesterday I Saw the Earth Beautiful 34:14 - THANKS 36:11 - CELTIC MUSIC STORY A few weeks back, I was reading Lissa Schneckenburger's email. Lissa is a fantastic Celtic musician from Vermont. She has a great newsletter where she inspires you to practice. In one email, she was talking about Summer Road Trips. She mentioned the Sustainable Touring Arts Coalition on how to make your travel as sustainable as possible. Her friend Laura Cortese toured plastic free. And Lissa did a tour with her husband and son on a bicycle! I'll let her tell the story 41:28 - Lissa Schneckenburger "The 11th Labor of Hercules" from Thunder in My Arms 44:40 – SUSTAINABILITY I found Lissa's story extremely inspiring. Obviously, I'm concerned about our carbon impact on the climate which is why I mentioned the Carbon Almanac in a past podcast. Her story got me excited. I went down a rabbit hole looking into sustainability in the music industry. I found a few resources, but not much. So I've been looking into ways that I can make my music career and podcasting career more sustainable. One of the coolest things that Lissa Schneckenburger's story inspired me to do is to make my own bike gig plans. With any luck, I will announce at least one bike show this Fall. I'd love your thoughts and feedback. Have you seen any Celtic musicians working hard to support our environment? What did they do? Please email me. 46:21 - Old Man Flanagan's Ghost "May" from Sociable 51:22 - Harmundi "Farewell To Thom" from Um Orvalho Boreal 55:56 - Jamison Celtic Rock "The Most Irish Girl in America" from Heyhowrya 59:07 - CLOSING 59:46 - Niamh Parsons “Green Grass It Grows Bonny” from In My Prime The Irish & Celtic Music Podcast was produced by Marc Gunn, The Celtfather. But sometimes, I screw up. I forget to charge for an episode. That happened this week. The money came in from last month's Patreon pledges. I was $500 short what I normally get each month. As you might imagine, I was a bit shocked. I realized immediately that I didn't charge for one of the episodes last month. That shortfall has a big impact on my life and business. I emailed my patrons and let them know about the problem. I was flooded with small donations and large ones from people who wanted to help make up that shortfall. So I want to take a moment to thank each and every Patron of the Podcast who sent in money to help me meet my financial goals for this month. I have a lot of new artist music I am buying this month. So that helps immensely. We at Tree Speech and Alight Theater Guild are incredibly grateful to John Philip Newell for joining us today. Newell is a Celtic teacher and author of spirituality who calls the modern world to reawaken to the sacredness of Earth and every human being. Canadian by birth, and a citizen also of Scotland, he resides with his family in Edinburgh and works on both sides of the Atlantic. In 2016 he began the School of Earth and Soul (originally called the School of Celtic Consciousness) and teaches regularly in the United States and Canada as well as leading international pilgrimage weeks on Iona in the Western Isles of Scotland. His PhD is from the University of Edinburgh and he has authored over fifteen books, including A New Ancient Harmony, Sounds of the Eternal, The Rebirthing of God, and his latest award-winning publication Sacred Earth Sacred Soul. Newell speaks of himself as ‘a wandering teacher' following the ancient path of many lone teachers before him in the Celtic world, ‘wandering Scots' seeking the wellbeing of the world. He has been described as having ‘the heart of a Celtic bard and the mind of a Celtic scholar', combining in his teachings the poetic and the intellectual, the head as well as the heart, and spiritual awareness as well as political and ecological concern. His writings have been translated into seven languages. In 2020 he relinquished his ordination as a minister of the Church of Scotland as no longer reflecting the heart of his belief in the sacredness of the earth and every human being. He continues, however, to see himself as ‘a grateful son of the Christian household' seeking to be in relationship with the wisdom of humanity's other great spiritual traditions. In 2011 John Philip was awarded the first-ever Contemplative Voices Award from the Shalem Institute in Washington DC for his prophetic work in the field of spirituality and compassion. In 2022 he received the Sacred Universe Award from the Well Center for Spirituality in Chicago, IL in recognition of his significant work in furthering humanity's relationship with the sacredness of Earth. It's Earth Day, friends! That means it's time for Stu Burguiere to indulge in one of his favorite pastimes: debunking idiotic liberal claims about climate change and its effects on the planet at large. Who doesn't love a good scientific and factual smackdown? Then, the CO2 Coalition's Gregory Wrightstone joins with some global warming knowledge of his own that you may not be familiar with. And, Stu reads and responds to his viewers' plans to celebrate (or desecrate) Earth Day. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
People have been sounding the alarm for climate change for generations. The earth is permanently altered by human hands. But if we have the power to hurt the earth, we share the power to heal her. Drawing on our spiritual tradition, Dr. Debra Rienstra encourages us to adapt our spiritual practices and faith to life on an altered planet. From consuming to healing, stewarding to co-creation, our task is to no longer objectify the earth but to care for her as living members of this sacred body. Dr. Rienstra encourages the idea of refugia. Refugia (reh-FU-jee-ah) is a biological term describing places of shelter where life endures in times of crisis, such as a volcanic eruption, fire, or stressed climate. Ideally, these refugia endure, expand, and connect so that new life emerges.Debra Rienstra applies this concept to human culture and faith, asking, In this era of ecological devastation, how can Christians become people of refugia? How can we find and nurture these refugia, not only in the biomes of the earth, but in our human cultural systems and in our spiritual lives? How can we apply all our love and creativity to this task as never before?Rienstra recounts her own process of reeducation--beginning not as a scientist or an outdoors enthusiast but by examining the wisdom of theologians and philosophers, farmers and nature writers, scientists and activists, and especially people on the margins. BioDebra Rienstra is professor of English at Calvin University, where she has taught since 1996, specializing in early British literature and creative writing. She is the author of four books—on motherhood, spirituality, worship, and ecotheology/climate change—as well as numerous essays and poems. Her literary essays have appeared in Rock & Sling, The Examined Life Journal, and Aethlon, among other places. She writes bi-weekly for The Twelve, an online magazine connected with The Reformed Journal, writing about spirituality, pop culture, the church, the arts, higher ed, and more.Rienstra was raised in Michigan and holds a BA from the University of Michigan and a PhD from Rutgers University. She and her husband, Ron Rienstra, have three grown children. Please read more from Dr. Rienstra as well as find our additional resources on climate care at her website. Seven in ten Americans identify as Christian. For a movement like rewilding to gain more traction, it must intersect with the belief systems of the culture at large on some level. I am not a Christian, though I am interested in the intersection of rewilding and christianity. Since I live in the United States, I feel it's important to understand enough about the dominant cultures here and where to find common ground in rewilding narratives. In this episode I chat with two friends of mine who are both pastors. Solveig Nilsen-Goodin and Aric Clark. Rev. Solveig Nilsen-Goodin is an ordained pastor in the Lutheran Church, a spiritual director, grief coach, writer, author of the book: What is the Way of the Wilderness: An Introduction to the Wilderness Way Community, and co-editor and contributor to A Grounded Faith: Reconnecting with Creator and Creation in the Season of Lent. Solveig helped found EcoFaith Recovery, and founded and pastored the Wilderness Way Community for eleven years. She and her husband Peter are raising two teenage boys in NE Portland.Rev. Aric Clark is pastor of Mt. Home and Sherwood United Methodist Churches. He is also a writer, a speaker, and an activist who lives in Portland, Oregon. He is the co-author of Never Pray Again: Lift Your Head, Unfold Your Hands, and Get To Work, a book which challenges readers to embrace a concrete other-centered spirituality, and editor of Faithful Resistance: Gospel Visions for the Church in a Time of Empire. When not pastoring, writing, or protesting he is parenting two teenagers and indulging a love of tabletop gaming. Our conversation topics range from anarchism, feminism, death, grief, decolonization and the histories of the church, the challenges of working in institutions and much more.
