The Mexico Pavilion at EPCOT (including Gran Fiesta Tour and its predecessor, El Rio Del Tiempo) is full of authentic details that speak to the culture, history, music and cuisine of Mexico. Opening in 1982 with the park, the pavilion now features two table-service restaurants (San Angel Inn Restaurant and La Hacienda de San Angel), a quick-service restaurant (La Cantina de San Angel), a lounge and tequila bar (La Cava del Tequila), an outdoor beverage stand (Choza de Margarita), a main attraction (Gran Fiesta Tour), live music (Mariachi Cobra), and shopping. The pavilion has a rich history, and this episode is devoted to the Imagineering, the details, the music, and the culture and history that make up the EPCOT Mexico Pavilion in World Showcase. Special thanks to Martin Smith for providing the audio for our El Rio Del Tiempo audio played in this episode. Be sure to check out his full Mexico Pavilion tribute on YouTube. Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros is a more recent overlay of El Rio Del Tiempo at Epcot's Mexico Pavilion. Monsters inc Mike and Sully to the Rescue is a much needed overlay of the much maligned, but somehow nostalgically missed opening day DCA attraction Super Star Limo. Listen to Dan, Erik and Jimmy as they discuss the history and detailed ride through of each attraction. Is the sudden and rather jarring transition from historical living postcard of Mexico to a day of the dead "It's a Small World" a good thing or a bad thing? Which CDA figure used to be Antonio Banderas in Monsters Inc? Listen in to find out. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Gran Fiesta Tour Starring, The Three Caballeros, is housed within the pyramid-shaped Mexico Pavilion at Walt Disney World's Epcot. The attraction opened in April 2007, replacing the El Rio Del Tiempo attraction, becoming the first World Showcase attraction to feature Disney characters! The Three Caballeros from the 1944 Disney Film of the same name. Like every Disney attraction, the grand fiesta tour has a story. As we make our way to the rear of the Mexico pavilion, the attraction begins with concert posters. It appears that we are just in time for a three caballeros' performance tonight!!! We board our boat for a scenic ride around a Mayan pyramid with an active volcano in the distance. The boat passes by the main dining area for the San Angel inn Restaurante. A node to Disneyland's Blue Byou restaurant and the Pirates of the Caribbean. As we make our way down the opening tunnel, we See Panchito and Jose introducing themselves, only to realize that Donald Duck is Missing?! Dónde Está Donald Duck? The search for Donal sends us on our journey through Mexico, we need to find Donald in time for the concert. The journey takes us through multiple scenes of live-action footage combined with the animated Caballeros searching for Donald. They eventually find him dancing to a mariachi band with locals; Panchito and Jose pull Donald away just in time for the concert in Mexico City, complete with Fireworks. From the attractions opening until late 2015, the performance was a projected cartoon. In late 2015 the concert scene of the attraction was updated to include the Three Caballeros animatronics from the Mickey Mouse Revue. Mickey Mouse Revue was an opening day Walt Disney World attraction, making the animatronics 50 years old. This video includes the concert scene with both the Animated and animatronic versions. Main Topic Our good friend How takes the lead this episode and we can't be more excited. You can always expect a deep dive into whatever it is he is discussing, which is always amazing. This episode we take you back to EPCOT Center and right into World Showcase. One of our favorite countries that was actually the only World Showcase 'ride' when the park opened. This attraction has stayed very similar to the opening day form with some minor updates, and we will get into those throughout this episode. As we get into this one, we hear about who was in charge of the pavilion, where the inspiration is from, and even some of the early concept art. Speaking of art, the very talented people who were involved in this are discussed in detail and How gives us some of their personal history and past projects. We go over the ride step by step, so make sure you take a look at some ride footage before or after you hit up this episode. Each scene is discussed in detail though and How even connects some of the original locations that inspired the ride design. This episode has me wanting to go ride this once more to look at all the hidden details and also to connect the history and real-world models. We hope you enjoy your ride on El Rio del Tiempo once more! 2020: The Year of Film To make sure you are the first to know when items are released, subscribe to us on YouTube. Overview: Today's podcast is a tribute to the Mexico pavilion. I take a thorough look at the design, layout, theming, and talk about the ride contained inside. Then, I spend some time talking about shopping and dining. And finally I discuss the original attraction, El Rio Del Tiempo. Come take a listen to the tale about this fascinating opening-day Epcot pavilion. Notes: In the past, I have referred to the pyramid found in Mexico as the Chichinitza. While it does appear similar in style, the pyramid in Epcot's Mexico is not that. Ir is a Mesoamerican pyramid based on an Aztec design. I'll refer to it correctly from now on. Also, the exhibit I mention that is in the entry way does change from time to time. My understanding is that it recently changed to a different part of Mexican heritage, but it was animales fantasticos when I created this podcast. Also, the Kidcot station has been in the house in the back and at times you can find it in the exhibition area. A reminder that the general overview of Epcot's World Showcase is in podcast #208 I explored the Japan pavilion in podcast #209 and the Germany pavilion in Podcast #216 --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

WEDway Radio - Walt Disney World and Disneyland Examined with some Disney History
In this episode Matt and Nate remember the original Mexico attraction, El Rio del Tiempo. From its Native American influence to its tropical get-away projection screens this attraction was a favorite of ours. When the attraction closed in 2007 the Imagineers at Disney dug deep within the archives and brought back a feature than many had forgotten in The Three Caballeros. Matt and Nate discuss the history of the film including the very interesting circumstances that brought Disney and his artists to South America in 1940 when the features Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros were inspired. Also discussed in the episode is the new Disney Premier Pass that allows guest annual acces to all U.S. Disney Theme Parks.
This week we head on over to Mexico, well Mexico in World Showcase. Come join us for a ride on El Rio del Tiempo (The River of Time) on the Gran Fiesta Tour as we join the Three Caballeros (Donald Duck, Jose Carioca and Panchito Pistoles).
