Before we get started, we'll hear the last about Disney Dream Jobs. Stephen and Kaity tell us their dream jobs - even though they have worked extensively as Cast Members. We also hear from a listener about wanting to work in the kids activities area, either in the parks or the resorts. With Walt Disney World not doing full blown Overlays as Disneyland does with the Haunted Mansion, it's fun to look at what could be. We'll hear from Stephen first with his idea to lightly add Christmas touches to Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway. Kaity will then talk about adding Coco to the Three Caballeros attraction in Epcot's Mexico Pavilion before talking about a fun idea of adding the holidays to Expedition Everest. Bryan then provides his idea of the Muppets Christmas Carol taking over Remy's Ratatouille Adventure and providing it from the point of view of Rizzo the Rat. This kicks off a conversation about the state of the Muppets. We even get into Honey, I Shrunk the Audience and Captain EO before getting back to Overlays. We'll consider the Simpson's taking over Tiana's Bayou Adventure and Muppet's Treasurer Island Overlaid on Pirates of the Caribbean. Before our last conversation about holiday music played by Sonny Eclipse at Cosmic Ray's, we have a fun conversation about Alien Extra-terror-estrial and a scary Stitch. You can find the Idiot's Guide to Imagineering on Instagram ‎@IdiotsImagineering  I appreciate them joining me this week! Make sure you hit that subscribe button so you know when there are new episodes. Between Disney's much beloved Golden and Silver eras is the 'Wartime' era, which is significantly less beloved and talked about. Virtually all of the movies in this period were collections of animated shorts, be they many in number such as Melody Time or only two not-quite-feature-length shorts, like Ichabod and Mr. Toad. But Saludos Amigos and Three Caballeros, while similar, are a bit different in design and purpose. While certainly a vehicle for shorts, both films are also a vehicle for exploring Latin America, with the first film featuring a documentary sort of approach and the latter film incorporating a very loose narrative to connect its pieces. In many ways, by modern standards both films are undeniably quaint. But that doesn't necessarily mean they're bad... so how do these things hold up, all this time later? With summer on the horizon, there are a few things to consider when packing for Walt Disney World in May. Special events and good weather set the tone for a month filled with Disney fashion and style opportunities.Heading into the Magic: Packing Tips and Style Ideas for a May Disney World Adventure As the sun climbs higher and the days stretch longer, the weather for May 2024 looks to be on the warm side, which is not unusual. Get ready for daytime highs around 88°F or 31°C and roughly nine hours of daylight. Nighttime lows are quite comfortable, with temperatures expected to be around 72°F or 22°C. While it may well rain during your vacation, at this time no significant rain events are on the radar. So as always, check the seven-day forecast with a local weather station the day before you leave for Walt Disney World to get the most up-to-date weather information. From a packing perspective, we're definitely starting to get into the warm weather clothes in May. You can put away the need for any jackets or long pants if you've been wondering about that. If you like to pack or plan outfits for special occasions, then you're in luck because May is chock full of special events and holidays around which you can get a little creative with your Disney vacation fashion and style. Some key dates to be aware of for Walt Disney World style in May include: May the Fourth (May 4): Whether you're a Jedi Knight or a loyal Rebel, Star Wars Day is your chance to let your fandom shine. While full-blown costumes are possible and liked by many, Disney bounding offers a stylish alternative to channel your inner galaxy hero. Cinco De Mayo (May 5): ¡Viva la fiesta! Draw inspiration from the vibrant world of Disney's Coco and The Three Caballeros as you celebrate this festive day with flair. Mother's Day (May 12): Show some extra love to the leading ladies in your life with coordinating family outfits or matching accessories that symbolize your appreciation and love for mom. Memorial Day (May 27): Honor the brave with patriotic colors and Disney-themed tributes as you pay homage to the heroes who've paved the way. And let's not forget a favorite pièce de résistance: National Wine Day (May 25). Raise a glass and toast to the finer things in life with a touch of Disney elegance. From Mickey-shaped wine charms to Minnie-inspired vineyard chic, there's no shortage of ways to sip in style. EPCOT is the place to be for this one as you sip your way around the world. So, whether you're traversing galaxies on May the Fourth or raising your glass on National Wine Day, let your Disney style be as magical as the memories you'll create. Cheers to a month filled with laughter, adventure and unforgettable moments at the most magical place on earth.Thank You for Listening to the Disney Travel Style PodcastThank you very much for listening to this episode, we that you enjoyed it. Brad and Jake tackle, but Brad hasn't seen any movies from 1943, so he recommends the acclaimed The Life & Times of Colonel Blimp. This unconventional epic spanning the Second Boer War and both World Wars was helmed by the Archers (Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger), and starred Roger Livesey, Anton Walbrook, and Deborah Kerr in knockout performances. Jake, with little in his 1943 arsenal, asked Brad to watch Disney's Saludos Amigos. But since it's more of a tourism ad than it is a movie, Brad took the opportunity to rank all 61 Disney Animated Features released at the time of this recording, from Snow White to Strange World. Disney Vacation Planning Just Got a Little EasierMaybe it should have been there from the very start, but after years of having to jump through hoops with Disney World and Disneyland vacation planning, Disney is finally implementing a change that will make trip planning a little easier for guests. This story, plus Disney Aulani news and a Christmas 2023 Disneyland update. The Big Changes for How You Can Book Your Advanced Dining at Disneyland and Walt Disney WorldAfter many years of frustration that caused guests to jump through hoops and juggle plans around Disney dining, Disney if finally making it much more efficient to book dining reservations. The new updates include: The Ability to See and Pick from All Available Reservation Slots (not just three): We shouldn't be so excited for something that should have been there all along, but now all available dining reservation slots will show up for your selected dining location and timeframe on the Disneyland website/Disneyland app and on the Walt Disney World website/My Disney Experience app.  Reservation Slots Sorted by Meal Period: Reservation availability will be sorted by meal period so you can see which menu is being served during the time of your reservation. This is most important around the transition time periods, for example if you're booking 4:00 p.m. you'll see if they're still serving lunch or starting on the dinner menu. These updates will roll out in phases across the website and iOS and Android platforms.--Disney Aulani Refurbishment Update: Ka Maka Pool and GrottoIf you're heading to Disney Aulani Hawaii this October, this is important news. The Ka Maka Pool and Grotto, including Ka Maka whirlpool spa, will be closed from October 9 - 28, 2023 for refurbishment. This is a showpiece pool so it will be missed by guests visiting at this time.Resort pools and water features that will be open include the Waikolohe Pool and Stream, the two water slides, multiple whirlpool spas, Keiki Cove splash zone, and the Wailana Pool. --2023 Disneyland Resort Holiday Season Dates and Details RevealedThe Holidays dates for Disneyland Resort this year will be November 10, 2023, through January 7, 2024. Here is what's happening including the celebrations, décor, entertainment and more for this year's Christmas and holiday season.Cultural Celebrations in Disney California Adventure Park with Disney Festival of HolidaysThe Disney Festival of Holidays draws inspiration from a wide range of global holiday celebrations, including Christmas, Navidad, Diwali, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Three Kings Day. Enjoy new treats and returning favorite food and beverage items at the Disney Festival of Holidays marketplaces and get into the spirit of it all with music and dance performances at the Palisades Stage, Sonoma Terrace and for the first time, in the Hollywood Backlot. Plus, you can dance along as Disney and Pixar characters march to the beat of the Holiday Toy Drummers in “Mickey's Happy Holidays.”The Sip and Savor Pass is back and offers eight entitlement tabs that can be redeemed for select food and non-alcoholic beverages from several marketplaces and participating dining locations in Disney California Adventure. Each Sip and Savor Pass is valid for the entire of Disney Festival of Holidays and can be shared among friends and family, so your whole group can sample dishes together this season.Disney ¡Viva Navidad! is back at the Paradise Gardens Park for its 10th season. If you like Christmas trees with uniquely themed ornaments, there will be plenty to see in both parks, Downtown Disney District, Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and Disneyland Hotel. And since it's the Christmas holiday season, you may just see a little Disney magic “snow” falling nightly in select areas of Disneyland park. And that's not all: ornaments, lights and more will also embellish favorite attractions that get a special holiday overlay. In Disneyland, you'll be serenaded with choruses of jolly tunes on the wintry waterway of “it's a small world” Holiday, and Jack Skellington redecorates the Haunted Mansion as usual, transforming it into the frightfully festive Haunted Mansion Holiday -- this year with a new haunted gingerbread house. Beating The Heat at Disney World This week, the Gold Key Adventurers Society gathers to share some tips on how to beat the heat while visiting Walt Disney World in Florida during the peak summer season. To avoid the scorching heat, we suggest going to the parks early in the morning and late in the evening, taking breaks during the middle of the day, and spending time at the pool when it's hottest. For those staying overnight or longer, choosing to stay at a Walt Disney World resort hotel can enhance the overall experience by taking advantage of early entry and extended park hours, and hopping between parks to avoid the heat from the hottest ones, such as Animal Kingdom and Epcot. When it comes to seeking ways to escape the heat, we share with listeners the various indoor attractions that provide a good respite. The Magic Kingdom has indoor attractions like PhilharMagic and Enchanted Tales with Belle. In Epcot, indoor options like Living with the Land and The Three Caballeros boat ride are recommended. In Hollywood Studios, the light show at night is beautiful as is Toy Story Midway Mania. We also share our favorite cooling gear for staying comfortable and suggest using handheld fans, lightweight, rechargeable fans, and cooling neck gaiters. We also caution listeners against spending too much on overpriced cooling towels and suggest using a bandana or wet ball cap. Additionally, we share fun facts about the Disney parks, including some history and trivia. We also discuss some of our favorite pools and water attractions in Walt Disney World, including Stormalong Bay and the Big Blue Pool. We even suggest finding rest and respite at pool bars and sit-down meals on the hot days. We emphasize the importance of staying on-site to quickly return to the resort and avoiding traveling off-property during peak season. For those looking to relax and avoid the heat on Florida's hottest summer days, some tips include arranging for preferred parking or utilizing the Skyliner. We also recommend indulging in some treats like Dole Whip or a citrus swirl, and drinks from Trader Sam's, and the pool bars at Riviera and Nomad Lounge. We also discuss an upcoming Indiana Jones movie and share some alternative options for cooling down, taking a humorous note in the popular song and making a funny joke. We close the show with some recommendations for staying hydrated while visiting theme parks and for avoiding heat stroke and dehydration. We suggest bringing water bottles or simply asking for water at quick serve counters. We also discuss drinking electrolyte beverages like Powerade or smart water for salt replenishment. And we remind our listeners that it's important to stay cool and not party too hard during the hot Florida summers, and to take breaks when necessary. So go out there, follow these tips and have a great time at Walt Disney World!     As always, a huge thank you to our sponsor, Key to the World Travel. Disney World Hotel Tour: Coronado Springs This week, we invite you to join us on a captivating tour of Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, a remarkable Moderate level resort located within the enchanting Walt Disney World Resort. We'll be showcasing all the compelling reasons why this resort should be your top choice for your next magical stay.Check out our video tour of the resort hosted by travel host extraordinaire Cam Matthews here . First and foremost, let's explore the captivating theme and aesthetic of Disney's Coronado Springs. This original resort draws inspiration from the alluring ambiance of Spanish colonial Mexico and the American Southwest. As we venture further, you'll discover that the guest rooms are situated in three distinct areas known as Casitas, Ranchos, and Cabanas. The Casitas offer luxurious suites, making Coronado and Gran Destino Tower the only moderate resorts at Walt Disney World with such accommodations. Throughout the common areas and guest rooms, the vibrant presence of the beloved characters from "The Three Caballeros" is skillfully woven into the decor, adding an extra touch of whimsy and charm. Next, we'll delve into the magnificent Gran Destino Tower, which opened its doors in 2019. This stunning 15-story tower takes inspiration from the themes and visual aesthetics of the renowned Disney animation short film, "Destino." Originally a collaboration between Walt Disney and Salvador Dali, the film remained unfinished until 2003. The Gran Destino Tower pays homage to this artistic masterpiece, offering guests a truly immersive experience filled with elegance and sophistication. As we satisfy our appetites, we'll explore the delightful dining options available at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort. The main dining venue, Coronado Springs, boasts a variety of culinary experiences, including Rix Sports Bar & Grill, Maya Grill, El Mercado de Coronado, and Cafe Rix. If you're looking for a unique dining experience, we recommend checking out Three Bridges Bar & Grill, Siestas Cantina (a charming poolside bar), and Laguna Bar, a picturesque outdoor lakeside bar. Additionally, the Gran Destino area offers Toledo, an exquisite dining destination specializing in tapas, steak, and seafood. For a more relaxed atmosphere, you can unwind at Dahlia Lounge or indulge in specialty gin drinks and Spanish-inspired appetizers at Barcelona Lounge, which also serves as an espresso bar and quick-service breakfast spot in the mornings. Of course, no trip to Disney's Coronado Springs Resort would be complete without exploring its remarkable recreational facilities. The Dig Site pool complex steals the spotlight, featuring the captivating Lost City of Cibola pool with a thrilling 123-foot waterslide—the longest on Walt Disney World property. Additionally, you'll find the largest hot tub on the property, capable of accommodating up to 22 adults, a kiddie pool, Siestas pool bar, sand volleyball court, the exciting Iguana Arcade, and the fun-filled Dig Site playground. For those seeking a more tranquil experience, the resort offers three serene quiet pools, each located in the distinct "settlement" areas of Coronado Springs. Throughout your stay, immerse yourself in the vibrant Colors of Coronado and admire the intricate Spanish Mosaic Art experiences that add an extra layer of cultural beauty to the resort. Both sections of the resort feature fitness centers to help you maintain your active lifestyle. You'll still find an array of engaging recreational activities to enjoy, including a daily campfire, nightly movies under the stars on the Gran Destino Lawn, invigorating pool parties, thrilling games, and a refreshing jogging trail for those seeking a scenic workout.   As always, a huge thank you to our sponsor, Key to the World Travel. What is the most controversial movie of all time? It might be some of the films we've already talked about but Walt Disney's post Civil War live action/animation hybrid Song of the South is definitely part of the conversation. It hasn't been released theatrically in the states since 1986, before some of us were born. Does it deserve to remain in the Disney Vault like images from Fantasia, The Rescuers and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Or should it be widely available for the public to decide?Tune in as Mike and Trevor discuss the problematic nature of Joel Chandler Harris' tales of the south, Walt Disney's history with and surrounding the film and how it led to one of Disneyland's most beloved attractions.Warning!! The following episode involves several serious and ugly topics including slavery and racism. If you're looking for a more whimsical Disney review, unfortunately you'll have to look somewhere else.
