How do you preserve physical video games in a world increasingly designed around downloads? How much would you pay for a really good keyboard? And what exactly happens when you sort the Nintendo Switch store from cheapest to most expensive? Xbox Finds a New Use for the Game Disc One of the episode's biggest discussions centers on Microsoft's Xbox Discs to Digital initiative. The concept offers an interesting middle ground between physical and digital ownership. A supported Xbox disc can be authenticated and connected to a player's digital library, potentially giving players digital access while the disc itself continues to function as the transferable proof of ownership. That last part is important. If the disc is sold and authenticated by somebody else, the digital access moves with it. For Sorg, who has stacks of Xbox One games and a console with a failed optical drive, this could solve a very practical problem. It also opens possibilities for finding inexpensive used Xbox games at stores such as GameStop and turning them into accessible digital titles. Mass factories, network TV, and cable made a kids’ merch boom. Aside note: some Christians had some legit/silly concerns about it. Mattel lost on Star Wars, but made its own franchise: He-Man. This blended John Carter, DnD, mysticism, and superheroes. Meanwhile, other boys’ and girls’ brands took over toy stores. Zack's notes about growing up in the 1980s and any toys he had. Last week beloved voice actor Peter Cullen (Transformers) died. Fans love his sincere voice for “gentle, powerful” Optimus Prime. That plus GI Joe, despite flaws, did seem to honor real heroism. Masters of the Universe (2026) failed in theaters, but has since found its power on streaming services. 3. Now many fans really do miss the 1980s Most of these franchises were firmly in fantasy and sci-fi genres. Without their popularity, fantasy genres may not be popular today. Eventually, He-Man got shoved out by Ninja Turtles and others. Somehow the Ninja Turtles find new life, while He-Man struggles. The new film version from Prime Studios faltered in theaters. Stephen liked this flawed fantasy, which did hit a streaming boom. Meanwhile, ’80s nostalgia steers new stories like Stranger Things. Maybe people want to feel a simple life without 2020s technology. Some of them also want a simpler morality of good vs. bad guys. But back in the actual 1980s, critics didn't like simplistic morality. And some “80s nostalgia” also forces in the 2020s moral disorder. Every era has common graces that are better perceived with time. All eras also have unique idols, such as godless/mystical heroism. Episode Summary After a misunderstanding turns Reacher into Philadelphia's most wanted man, he spends much of the episode doing what Reacher does best: escaping situations that should probably be impossible to escape. Meanwhile, Jacob, Tamara, and Plum recover the flash drive Anna mailed before her death, along with her phone, but their attempt to finally get some answers turns into a violent confrontation with Lila and Amisha. Jacob gets his first genuine opportunity to strike back at the people responsible for his sister's death. The recovered evidence also starts bringing the larger conspiracy into focus. A photograph connects Congressman Sampson to a disgraced Indonesian general, but Reacher suspects another person in the image may actually be more important to the mystery. Anna's phone also gives the group stronger evidence tying Lila directly to the killings. By the end, Reacher and Tamara's investigation leads them toward another confrontation while Jacob is taken hostage, leaving Tamara with a pretty awful decision to make. And this one definitely supports the subtitle vibe we were talking about: there's plenty of entertaining Reacher insanity here, but the season is getting increasingly dependent on everyone accepting some wildly convenient and increasingly ridiculous shit to keep the plot moving.
