Thank you for being part of the conversation. This is Play It Forward. Real people. Real stories. The struggle to Play It Forward Episode 616 with author Ridley Pearson. You've likely heard of Ridley Pearson as the Edgar-nominated author of over sixty novels including two New York Times #1 bestsellers. The Fulbright fellow who plays in a band with Stephen King, Dave Barry, Amy Tan and Scott Turow is also the author of KINGDOM KEEPERS INHERITANCE: VILLAINS' REALM, the second in a trilogy for middle grade readers which follows young heroes to Disney parks around the world. The first volume has sold over a million copies. With the help of Cinderella's very own Fairy Godmother-the notorious FGM as she's known in this world-they set out to stop Ursula-jumping from Epcot to Disneyland to Disneyland Paris, where the ultimate battle between good and evil plays out.
New York Times bestselling author Ridley Pearson is back with his latest installation of the Kingdom Keepers series.
The second book in this all-new KINGDOM KEEPERS INHERITANCE trilogy by New York Times bestselling author Ridley Pearson, follows our young heroes to parks around the world. They must race against the clock to stop the most villainous villain of all, Ursula, from taking over for good! In this latest book in the series that has sold over a million copies worldwide, Ridley Pearson expands the Kingdom Keepers world in ways no reader-or Disney Parks fan-could have imagined. Home from their adventures abroad in book one, Eli and his friends are safe and sound at Epcot with their families, or are they? When Eli learns that the CEO of the Walt Disney Company has mysteriously done a 180 and ordered Villains' Realms to be built in every park across the globe, he and his friends know something is amiss. It turns out that Ursula, the baddest of the big bads, has recruited an evil chemist to recreate Walt's magical ink, which would allow the Villains to travel between parks and end Disney magic as we know it. With the help of Cinderella's very own Fairy Godmother-the notorious FGM as she's known in this world-they set out to stop Ursula-jumping from Epcot to Disneyland to Disneyland Paris, where the ultimate battle between good and evil plays out. Will Eli and his friends prevail, or will the Villains finally have their way?
This week, New York Times bestselling author Ridley Pearson joins Jeff to talk about the world of the Kingdom Keepers, and to discuss his new book, "Kingdom Keepers Inheritance: Villains Realm." Ridley shares about his process, going backstage at the Disney parks, and that time that he saw a Small World doll come to life. Plus, Rolly Crump is going to be honored with a marble bust in a haunted parlor; and Jeff finally goes back to the mailbag to discuss training for 10Ks, touring the parks with a pregnant spouse, and reminiscing about Mousetalgia then, now, and yet to come.

The blessings of God's mercy.
From the very onset, Jesus intended on His followers representing Him to the rest of the world. Just after recruiting His first disciples, He cast a vision over them as to how they might reach and impact their world. These many years later, that same vision remains over us... In this message, we hear how Jesus positioned His Church as Keepers of His Kingdom and sent us on a mission to make disciples. It's clear in His teaching that our greatest opportunities are found in the relationships we build and foster. He's given us the keys and He calls us Salt, Light, and Refuge. We must make much of our appointed time on this mission field, until His Kingdom comes.

Whether you're heading to Florida for vacation or just want to feel like you're in Florida, these 10 books will give you a great picture of the Sunshine State. (Amazon links are used for your convenience. If a purchase is made through one of my links, I will be minimally compensated at no expense to you.) Books Mentioned in this episode: 1. A Suite Deal by Kay Sisk - Romantic Comedy/ Orlando It's not enough that the perky redhead has been in his way from Dallas to Orlando, but now a hotel suite mix-up has David White sharing a living room with her, her mother and her niece. How's a man supposed to conduct business at the convenience store convention and still have time to prep for a job interview with WOTs-New-Now's president? Somehow wanting to jump ship from his dead-end job has him jumping through hoops for her instead. 2. Paper Towns by John Green - Realistic Fiction/ Christmas, FL When Margo Roth Spiegelman beckons Quentin Jacobsen in the middle of the night—dressed like a ninja and plotting an ingenious campaign of revenge—he follows her. Margo's always planned extravagantly, and, until now, she's always planned solo. After a lifetime of loving Margo from afar, things are finally looking up for Q . . . until day breaks and she has vanished. Always an enigma, Margo has now become a mystery. But there are clues. And they're for Q. 3. Rum Punch by Elmore Leonard - Noir Crime / West Palm Beach & Miami This book is set about a not-altogether-blameless flight attendant on the run from her vicious gun-running sometimes employer who sees her as a troublesome loose end. This book was adapted for the big screen in Jackie Brown, which was directed by Quentin Tarantino and starred Pam Grier, Robert DeNiro, and Samuel L Jackson! But, if you've seen the movie, be prepared because there are some big differences between the book & the movie! The second book in a two-book series. The first is called The Switch about a kidnapping that went wrong. 4. Beyond Risk by Connie Mann - Romantic Suspense / Ocala Forest Former Fish & Wildlife Officer Charlotte "Charlee" Tanner still carries the guilt of a tragic drowning accident that occurred on her watch. She hoped moving back home to the wilds of central Florida would provide a safe haven-until she learns the death was no accident, and she's the intended target. Tough and decisive, Lieutenant Hunter Boudreau loves his new job as a law enforcement officer with the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. Charlee is his best friend, so when she comes under fire, he's not letting her out of his sight until the killer is caught. But Charlee won't sit by and let anyone else die for her. As danger closes in and Charlee and Hunter's attraction threatens to consume them, Charlee has to decide if she can trust Hunter. And to save Charlee, Hunter will have to trust her, too. 5. Tourist Season by Carl Hiaasen - PI/Mystery - Miami The first sign of trouble is a Shriner's fez washed up on a Miami beach. The next is a suitcase containing the almost-legless body of the local chamber of commerce president found floating in a canal... The locals are desperate to keep the murders under wraps and the tourist money flowing. But it will take a reporter-turned–private eye to make sense of a caper that mixes football players, politicians, and one very hungry crocodile in this classic mystery. 6. A Secret in the Keys by Hope Holloway - women's fiction / Coconut Key The last thing Beck Foster wants to do is attend a party for her estranged aunt in the Florida Keys. One month earlier, Beck's seemingly ideal existence imploded when her husband of thirty-four years announced he was leaving her. Now, she has to sell her house, get a job, and somehow put her broken heart and life back together. She can't do all that if she runs off to visit a woman she barely remembers. Or can she? Accompanied by her grown daughter who also longs for an escape, Beck heads to Coconut Key, where she'd lived the earliest years of her life. There, she forges a life-changing relationship with a woman she never really understood, dips her toes into the waters of a new romance, and begins the process of starting over. But when a secret kept for nearly fifty years comes crashing down on them, all of Beck's dreams are once again threatened. Can she forgive the lies that have shaped her life, or will the past ruin her chance at a new beginning in Coconut Key? 7. The Last Train to Key West by Chanel Cleeton - Key West/ historical fiction For the tourists traveling on Henry Flagler's legendary Overseas Railroad, Labor Day weekend is an opportunity to forget the economic depression gripping the nation. But one person's paradise can be another's prison, and Key West-native Helen Berner yearns to escape. After the Cuban Revolution of 1933 leaves Mirta Perez's family in a precarious position, she agrees to an arranged marriage with a notorious American. Following her wedding in Havana, Mirta arrives in the Keys on her honeymoon. While she can't deny the growing attraction to her new husband, his illicit business interests may threaten not only her relationship but her life. Elizabeth Preston's trip to Key West is a chance to save her once-wealthy family from their troubles after the Wall Street crash. Her quest takes her to the camps occupied by veterans of the Great War and pairs her with an unlikely ally on a treacherous hunt of his own. Over the course of the holiday weekend, the women's paths cross unexpectedly, and the danger swirling around them is matched only by the terrifying force of the deadly storm threatening the Keys. 8. Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom by Cory Doctorow - Disney / SciFi Fantasy Jules is a young man barely a century old. He's lived long enough to see the cure for death and the end of scarcity, to learn ten languages and compose three symphonies...and to realize his boyhood dream of taking up residence in Disney World. Disney World! The greatest artistic achievement of the long-ago twentieth century. Now in the care of a network of volunteer "ad-hocs" who keep the classic attractions running as they always have, enhanced with only the smallest high-tech touches. Now, though, it seems the "ad hocs" are under attack. A new group has taken over the Hall of the Presidents and is replacing its venerable audio-animatronics with new, immersive direct-to-brain interfaces that give guests the illusion of being Washington, Lincoln, and all the others. For Jules, this is an attack on the artistic purity of Disney World itself. Worse: it appears this new group has had Jules killed. This upsets him. (It's only his fourth death and revival, after all.) Now it's war: war for the soul of the Magic Kingdom, a war of ever-shifting reputations, technical wizardry, and entirely unpredictable outcomes. 9. Kingdom Keepers by Ridley Pearson Five young teens tapped as models for theme park “guides” (using a new hologram technology developed by the Disney Imagineers) find themselves pitted against Disney villains and witches that threaten both the future of Walt Disney World and the stability of the world outside its walls. Featuring a new cover design and additional content! 10. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling While not set in Florida, you can head to Universal Studios and ride the Hogwarts Express, visit Hogsmeade & Diagon Alley, and of course, Hogwarts. This week we took a look at Disney's slate of remakes. Ever since Alice in Wonderland raked in more than $1 billion worldwide, it seems like the Disney live-action remake machine has gone into overdrive. With the recent success of Beauty and the Beast, we can expect even more. This week we look at the current slate and evaluate the good and the bad, and we have a healthy discussion about The Song of the South. Plus we recommend a few movies that Disney should consider remaking and which ones they should never, ever touch. That and much, much more. For the week of April 24, 2017, this is Episode 128 of The Disney Movie Review. SCHEDULED REMAKES Here is the current list of remakes that we know of: Dumbo, Mulan, The Lion King, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, Snow White, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Peter Pan, Tink, Cruella, Maleficent 2, Sword in the Stone, Jungle Book 2, Christopher Robin, and an Oliver Twist remake. See a full list here. We all agreed that Disney is on the right track with a few of these movies, including Tink, Christopher Robin, and Sword in the Stone. Ed agreed that it would be nice to see an Aladdin remake, but only if James Monroe Iglehart would play the Genie. (Listen to our interview with the Tony-winning Actor here.) I'd also like to see Disney try its hand at Atlantis. The movie doesn't get a ton of love from Disney fans and I can't figure out why. It's very mystical with good voice acting and can be very Avatar-esq in a live action retelling. In fact, they could probably replace the world of Pandora in Florida with Atlantis if they wanted to. The Hunchback of Notre Dame, would also make a great remake. We already know a lot about Quasimodo, but I'd love to know more about Phoebus, Frollo and Esmerelda. There is also a potential to move forward in the story and tell us about what the society looks like after the acceptance of Quasimodo. Ed thinks Disney should look at redoing The Rescuers. We talked about how The Rescuers Down Under became Disney's first sequel in episode 92. It'd be awesome to see if Disney could translate the magic of those two movies to the big screen and maybe make a trilogy of these mice solving cases. If we'd venture outside of the movies to talk about the parks, it'd be great to get a backstory on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Disney is already working on a live action version of The Jungle Cruise and The Pirates of the Caribbean was really the first movie that brought Disney into the live action remake territory. Kingdom Keepers is another parks-based story that could easily translate to the big screen. There are several books in the series and they already have a following. This could give Disney it's own “Harry Potter” type of movie series. I'm actually shocked that they haven't started this yet. Remakes Disney Should Never Do We all agreed that Disney tends to get into trouble when they remake some of their more popular films that are recent. Even if they are popular at the box office, it tends to dilute the impact of the brand. That means we all agreed that The Little Mermaid should be off the table. It's too recent and, unless they are doing a spinoff, it will be too closely compared to the original. Cruella fell into this category for me. Glenn Close was so iconic in this role that I think it'd be difficult to duplicate that. Ed felt Fantasia needs an animated sequel before we start to look at a live action version. And since flying elephants in a live action form creep me out, Dumbo was simply out of the question. Kristin has no desire to see a Pinocchio, but probably because of Johnathan Taylor Thomas' epic portrayal. WHAT REMAKES SHOULD DISNEY NEVER TOUCH? The truth is, we disagree on almost all of what remakes Disney should not touch. Ed isn't opposed to remakes because he falls back on the originals. That said, he doesn't like Snow White remakes. I'd want Disney to stay away from Lady and the Tramp, Oliver and Company, and The Emperor's New Groove. Kristin wants Disney to stay away from Pocahontas and Song of the South. Specifically, we discuss three films at length. Pocahontas - Pocahontas is (in my opinion) one of the worst Princess movies. In fact, it is one of the lowest performing Princess films. Disney ran into a lot of controversy by trying to produce this story as an animated film. It's one of the reasons Kristin feels like Disney should not touch this again. I'd like to see Disney try to redo this film with a little more creativity. Now that the story of Pocahontas is widely available on the internet, I don't think Disney has to try to change it so much. They can take the same strategy they did with Saving Mr. Banks. They didn't tell the whole story, but they didn't change it so that it was unrecognizable. It'd be great to get a “second draft” on that from Disney. The Fox and the Hound - Disney probably couldn't remake The Fox and the Hound after putting Zootopia forward. But it's also a movie they probably shouldn't remake either. The story rests on two different individuals whose differences drive them apart. Song of the South - Kristin brought up that Song of the South should never be remade, which opened a can of worms. (Really, I opened it up). Kristin felt like the movie was too racially charged to be remade. I think the movie gets a bad rap from Disney fans. Ed brought up the book, Who's Afraid of Song of the South. If you haven't seen the movie, here is a link where I watched it. (http://watchcartoonsonline.eu/watch-song-of-the-south-1946-full-movie-online/) THANK YOU! Thank you for listening!
