Chapter 415 of the Gypsy Tales Podcast features British speedway rider Dan Bewley sitting down with Jase to explain what it actually feels like to race a bike with no brakes, four laps at a time, at 70 mph, inches away from three other riders. Dan breaks down the crash that shattered his femur, his dream of becoming a professional motocross racer before switching to speedway, and what it took to build a career in a sport most Americans have never seen. They also get into the new Kawasaki two-stroke concept everyone's talking about, life racing in Poland where speedway is massive, Russian riders being banned from top-level competition, Ken Roczen finally becoming a Supercross champion, and whether Haiden Deegan really has what it takes to beat Jett Lawrence. Story of the Week (DR):Trump's Explosive Diarrhea Scandal Is Getting Worse and Worse Epidemiological data linked a widespread Cyclospora parasite outbreak—sickening over 1,600 people across multiple states—to shredded iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms de Mexico, triggering a voluntary 27-state recall. The FDA briefly reported a positive lab test on a Taylor Farms sample before retracting it a day later as a "false positive" due to testing complexities. Taylor Farms claimed online that the FDA "apologized," but the agency denied issuing an official apology and stressed that outbreak data still points to the company.Public records show parent company Taylor Fresh Foods contributed $1 million to the pro-Trump super PAC MAGA Inc. in March 2025, alongside millions in additional political donations from company executives to conservative groups.Less than a week after that $1 million donation in March 2025, the administration announced a 30-month delay on implementing the FDA's Food Traceability Rule—a regulation specifically designed to mandate digital tracking for rapid source-tracing during food outbreaks.Critics argue the sequence of big-money donations, delayed safety rules, White House visits, and a retracted test result smells of political favoritism. Federal health officials, however, maintain that Cyclospora is notoriously difficult to test for and that the retraction was strictly a standard lab quality-control issue. The Musk/Doge effect:DOGE-mandated freezes on government credit cards left some FDA field inspectors unable to purchase food samples from grocery stores or border ports to test for contamination.Mass firings of probationary employees and administrative staff gutted public communications and technical teams. Even after court-ordered reinstatements, resignations left the FDA understaffed by about 20% across the board.State health agencies perform over 90% of U.S. produce inspections. DOGE and federal budget cuts reduced FDA funding for state and local food safety programs by nearly 30%—slashing it from $117 million to $83 million.OpenAI says its AI technology acted on its own in an 'unprecedented' hack of another company MMOr:OpenAI Says Its A.I. Episode 196 is on the scene and it's Hampton Heat week at Langley Speedway. Track owner Bill Mullis is in the house and we discuss all the preparations the track is doing for the second leg of the Virginia Triple Crown, why the track is such a hit in the community, whether or not he's going to ride a bull anytime soon and much more. It's always a great time when Bill stops by and this was no exception. This year's Hampton Heat will have it's share of heavy hitters. Brenden "Butterbean" Queen tries to win a record breaking fourth event this weekend while Connor Hall returns to win his second. Matt Waltz won it last year and you know he will be bringing another strong piece to Langley while Lee Pulliam returns to JR Motorsports looking to rebound from South Boston. We pick our winners and discuss the storylines heading into it.The only thing hotter than Kaden Honeycutt in Late Model racing was the temperature in North Wilkesboro. We discussed another CARS Tour sweep from Honeycutt in both Pro and Late Model Stocks and all of the action from Wilkes County on Friday and on Saturday for the Truck Series as well. We also address Speedway Motorsports (SMI) joining the CARS Tour ownership group and what that means for the future of the Tour. The IHRA made more headlines last week by shuttering the IHRA Stock Car Series not even halfway through it's first year of existence. We were able to reach out to an anonymous source from the IHRA and we were able to answer some of the questions race fans had about what exactly happened, who hasn't gotten paid and what the future holds. It also leads us to a great conversation about the economics of Late Model Racing that you do not want to miss. Joey Logano ended his over 40 race winless streak in the Cup Series return to points paying racing at North Wilkesboro. We discuss everything that happened Sunday night plus we break down the finals of the Midseason Challenge and so much more this week on DLN!Special Thanks to our sponsorsALARS Inc (www.alars.net)Hash & Sons Enterprises LLC

In this episode, John and Mike visit one of their favorite annual Mustang club shows, the Great Lakes Stampede All-Ford & Mustang Car Show, hosted by the Mustang Club of Mid Michigan (MCMM). This event marked the public debut of the Mustang Owner's Podcast 10x10 Meet & Greet tent display, where the boys featured not one, but TWO celebrity guests – Bud Magaldi, chief designer and styling design manager of the Fourth Generation (SN95) 1994 Mustang, and Emeline King, the interior designer of that same Fourth Generation (SN95) 1994 Mustang. Bud and Emeline chatted with attendees and signed autographs while Emeline also offered a book-signing for her inspirational softcover autobiography, “What Do You Mean A Black Girl Can't Design Cars? Emeline King, She Did It! (still available on Amazon). This year the MCMM moved its show venue to the Birch Run Speedway after several years at the nearby Outlet Mall. Clouds, wind and eventual rain may have affected the turnout a bit, but John and Mike were amazed by how many different variants of Shelby Mustangs braved the elements for the Stampede, as well as how many early gens were there, along with a multitude of special colors in attendance – especially green! The great photography you see here came from Ford retiree and super-enthusiast Bill Cook.

In November 1978, what began as a routine closing shift at a Burger Chef restaurant in Speedway, Indiana, ended in one of the nation's most haunting unsolved murder cases. Four young employees—Jayne Friedt, Ruth Shelton, Daniel Davis, and Mark Flemmonds—vanished without a trace, only to be found murdered two days later in a wooded area miles away. Despite decades of investigations, false confessions, and countless theories, no one has ever been convicted. In this episode, we examine the timeline, the investigative mistakes that may have cost the case its best chance at justice, and why the Burger Chef murders continue to captivate true crime investigators nearly 50 years later.

A little over two years ago, I put together a show based only on songs released on the ten inch EP format. I’m still wondering why there aren’t more ten inchers released these days. It’s the perfect format for the EP’s that waste way too much space on most twelve inch releases.  Anyway, since that previous show, I’ve not only acquired a few more of these type of records, but I’ve expanded my knowledge of the format. For new titles, there’s the live Replacements EP that accompanied preorders of the box set reissue of Let It Be. There’s also a couple of Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs EPs, and a reissue by The Delmonas.  For older titles, I must give a bit of praise to my record collecting geek friend Phil. Over the years, he’s handed me a few titles that he knew that I’d enjoy. One of those was a record by a 90s band called Speedway. As I was looking at it the other day, I was pleasantly shocked to see that this was an early band by Miss Georgia Peach! I definitely needed to air a couple of tracks off that. Phil also alerted me to a various artists ten […]
