We are back with another in our "Rant, Rave, Really?" set of episodes where we lean into every day observations about something that we really want to give a shout out about, perhaps something that is a bit troubling, or something that is just plain confusing. In this episode, host CH gives a shoutout to a recent Instagram reel that crossed her feed discussing the importance of developing a code to communicate when we truly need support from our closest friend (or friends). In other words, NOT just treating it like any other reach out. And the interesting fact? It only takes 8 minutes of connection to help ease feelings of loneliness and isolation, and to create a sense of togetherness. (OF NOTE: This episode was recorded before we could source the author of the remixed Instagram reel. But we DID - its Simon Sinek. See our Show Notes below). Show Notes The "8 Minute Rule" that CH discusses in this episode was popularized by TED speaker and psychologist, Simon Sinek. You can check out his full talk on YouTube or this Forbes article.
Have a question? Click here. Today we have a different style episode for you to enjoy and learn from. There are three sections in this episode - a rant about misleading health headlines, a rave about taking a break from social media, and a review of an interesting article about understanding tiredness. This format is a departure from our usual in-depth topics on aging, nutrition, and interviews with experts but it's still very much worth a tune in!*** Remember, this insightful information comes from Caroline Williams's article "A fresh understanding of tiredness reveals how to get your energy back," published in New Scientist.Read the Article in Apple News+Join The Stronger Collective Nourished Notes Newsletter Core Essentials: Episode 1 2 3 430+ Non-Gym Ways to Improve Your Health (free download)Connect with Amy: GracedHealth.comJoin the Graced Health community on Facebook! We are shaking things up a bit (we think, anyway) as we introduce a new set of episodes called "Rant, Rave, Really ...?", leaning into every day observations about something that we really want to give a shout out about, perhaps something that is a bit troubling, or something that is just plain confusing (because we've all been there, right?). Might be a direct life experience, but it also might be an observed experience. Either way, it's all still part of navigating life one story at at time. For this first one, and inspired by attending a live jazz and jam session performance by a drummer she admires, CH reflects on the importance of nurturing young passions WITH support of family and mentors. Show Notes The Canadian jazz drummer, bandleader, composer and music educator CH went to see that was Jacob Wutzke. More information about Jacob can be found on his official Web site. The Royal Room is the Seattle-area venue where the performance was held; more information can be found on its official Web site.

And do you agree with Caroline's claim that Lady from Lady and the Tramp deserves a spot alongside Disney's most courageous heroines? Grab your license and forbidden gems to find out who is the treat-worthy pet and who is just a pet peeve! This episode is dedicated in loving memory to Toby (03/17/2015–01/23/2024). Luke and Andrew return to their favorite source of content -- the Seattle Times' Rant & Rave column -- and question one Seattleite's experience at a TSA checkpoint. They also discuss the rapid decline of the neck tie, and, of course, Al Frankin's 30-year-old impressions of Paul Simon and Paul Tsongas.
*Announcements! The first STARGIRL in-person event is happening! Details will be announced on my Instagram first @emmaglennbaker — can't wait to share more and see you there!* In this week's episode, I introduce a brand new segment to the public: STARGIRL Rants and Raves! I welcome all listeners to send in a Rant or Rave on a Stargirl, person/persona you fixate on, or cultural event/moment that you love or hate. This first round was open to Patrons only, and we listen to my favorite three submissions here today! Here's how it works: Record a 0:30 - 2:00 minute-long voice note Email the audio file to me at stargirldirect@gmail.com Subject line should read “Rant / Rave” on [your subject]” In the email, please not e how you'd like to be attributed (full name, first name only, IG handle, etc.) Show notes: This week we tackle a classic Stargirl: Dame Elizabeth Taylor. I talk about the many elements of her myth that I somehow inherited—her violet eyes, “married eight times to seven men,” her health issues, etc. I decide that although Liz Taylor is indeed beautiful, prolific, and messy, her real singularity lies in her Sturdiness: She is womanly, down-to-earth, and robust. We also discuss Camille Paglia's incredible fixation on Liz, and leaf through Liz's memoir/self-help/recipe book about her own weight gain and loss, Elizabeth Takes Off. Plus, I finally acknowledge the Chappell Roan phenomenon, praise Addison for her underwater Dhanurasana, and challenge myself to discuss the election head-on, rather than roll my eyes and look away. We got this y'all! Discussed: “Sabrina, Chappell, and Charli are suddenly stars. Why now?” Mikael Wood in the LA times Azaelia Banks on Chappell Roan Addison's underwater amazingness “Love of Country and Aloha Spirit with Tulsi Gabbard,” Jocko Podcast Excerpt from “Elizabeth Taylor: Hollywood's Pagan Queen,” Camille Paglia, originally published in Penthouse magazine (1992) Interview with Paglia on Liz Taylor, Salon (2011) Elizabeth Takes Off: On Weight Gain, Weight Loss, Self-Image, and Self-Esteem, Elizabeth Taylor (1987)
In this Rant/Rave episode, Conor and Caroline are going in (without lightning lanes) on two standby lines from the Disney parks. Do you agree with Caroline that Rise of the Resistance in Galaxy's Edge has pushed the limits of a queue into the stratosphere? In this Rant/Rave episode, Conor and Caroline are getting steamed and steamy as they talk about Disney beasts that are just plain hot. Do you agree with Caroline that Prince Adam (aka The Beast's human form) gets unfairly dismissed as unattractive when he is the most sensual prince in the Disney canon? Or maybe, like Conor, you are finally ready to admit that the roguish fox, Robin Hood, is a hunk of burnin' love? In this Rant/Rave episode, Conor and Caroline go down the rabbit hole into the Disney characters that are worthy (or unworthy) of icon status. Has Caroline gone mad by claiming Alice of Alice in Wonderland is too unlikeable to be such a noteworthy Disney symbol? And would you agree with Conor that Zootopia's Judy Hopps does not get the recognition she deserves as the complex, modern hero? Here's some very good advice: don't be late to this episode!DISCLAIMER: While Judy Hopps is a fictional character, we acknowledge that her role as a police officer is representative of modern policing. Although her character may hope for a more understanding and different approach to law enforcement, in our world we are not there yet. Black and Brown people continue to suffer senseless deaths at the hands of police and a broken, racist system. In this Rant/Rave episode, Conor and Caroline channel the spirits in an entry devoted entirely to ghosts of Disney. Casting a spell with both the light and dark sides of the Force, Conor rants about the revision of Anakin Skywalker's Force Ghost in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. Meanwhile, Caroline's séance manifests the forgotten Disney Television film, Susie Q, in a rave about its worthy contribution to supernatural cinema that has been buried for years. Then, Caroline pulls up in her stage coach and crashes Mom's kitchen with a rave about long-standing immersive dining experiences in Walt Disney World: The Hoop-De-Doo Revue and the 50's Prime Time Café. Betsy Zajko is an empath, a world traveler, an actor, a story teller, a voice over artist, and oh yeah, she also builds, climbs inside, and brings giant puppets to life on her weekends. She started her life practically as many of us do and then discovered the real fun is when we listen to our inner voice, trust the calling, and just go for it. We first crossed paths at Rant & Rave, the monthly story telling show at Rogue Machine Theatre in Los Angeles. We've since become each other's biggest fans. I'm happy to share another one of my inspiring and uplifting (and so good) friends with you. Oh and three word spoiler alert: Up. With. People. FYI - this is A-May-Zing May and we're doubling episodes every Wednesday for the month! Enjoy this first of two new episodes.
In this episode we rant, rave and review about Love, Death and Robots Volume 2 and Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, before inviting superstar singer, songwriter, teacher and streamer, Danielle Allard on to the podcast to talk about music, keeping busy during a pandemic, dinosaurs and all the other wonderful things going on in her life.
In this Rant/Rave episode, Conor and Caroline reminisce about two major defunct Walt Disney World locations from their childhood. And why was Mickey's Toontown Fair the land that all the other themed areas of the Magic Kingdom didn't want to sit with at lunch? Or are you riding hard with Caroline on the Kristoff Bjorgmann sled in praising the man who burst hearts all over the world when he asked Anna, “I’m here, what do you need?” We know that princes are so eligible...but the love of an ice harvester is #notfragile.
