God's Word for Today26 Feb, 20256 Many a man proclaims his own steadfast love, but a faithful man who can find?7The righteous who walks in his integrity —blessed are his children after him!-Prov 20:6,7 ESVA FAITHFUL MAN WHO CAN FIND?Solomon pointed out earlier that "mere talk" does not benefit anyone (Prov 14:23). As the English expression is that "talk is cheap." Many people brag about the wonderful things they will do. That includes declaring their loyalty and friendship to others. But when times become hard, and friendship requires sacrifice, many people suddenly disappear. However, a true friend loves at all times (Prov 17:17) he is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. [Prov 18:24). In other words, Solomon has highlighted the rarity of a person whose loyalty lives up to their "big talk." Rarely does anyone find someone who fully keeps their word, showing loyalty to God and others.Let us learn from the apostle Peter. Having a big mouth was his weakness. He bragged that he was willing to fight and die for Jesus (John 13:36–38). To his credit, he tried to fight (John 18:10) before fleeing away (Matthew 26:56), but then he lied out of fear when his loyalty to Christ was tested (Mat 26:69–75). Certainly, believers can depend upon Jesus. He keeps His word and love them unconditionally. He cannot lie, can He? (Titus 1:2). He is the truth! (John 14:6). Furthermore, He will always love us. In John 13:1, John tells us, "Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end." Paul adds this assurance by saying, “ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,“For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”[Rom 8:38–39] He is our only loyal friend who will never leave us or forsake us. Sermon 5 of 9 in series through Ezra/Nehemiah _________________________________________ Small Group Questions 1. What is your current practice of consistent, faithful times of prayer? Is there something you want to change in order to ensure that you have consistent, faithful times of prayer? 2. What is your practice of ensuring that the Bible guides your prayers, or what might you start doing to ensure that the Bible guides your prayers? 3. One thing we want to do is be willing to pray for grand things (as Nehemiah prayed for mercy before Artaxerxes). What are some big things that you want to begin praying about faithfully? 4. We also must pray with a readiness to obey. Is there something you've been praying about where you need to take some action? 5. Was there anything else from the text and/or sermon that you found convicting or comforting?

Brandon and Jesse Rock were kind enough to trek down to K.C. from St. Joe so we could (of course) talk a little bit about some of their favorite records, but also so that we could cover what is currently their lives, Sk8bar.What is Sk8bar, you say?Well, I'm glad you asked. It's a skateboard shop, a bar, and a live music venue at 501 Francis Street in St. Joseph, Missouri. You can find their Facebook page here, their Instagram here, or you can give them a holler after 5 p.m., Tuesday-Sunday at 816-609-0507.Please check them out, give them a follow, keep an eye on their live-show calendar, and put it on your own calendar to go see a gig at their joint. Here are Jesse's selections:Little Wheel Spin and Spin (1966), Buffy Saint-MarieTownes Van Zandt, self-titled (1969)The Day the Country Died (1983), SubhumansBabes in Toyland's Fontanelle (1992)And here are Brandon's:VI (1987), Circle JerksSub Society's No Legs to Stand On (1989)13 Songs (1989), FugaziType O Negative's Dead Again (2007)I really enjoyed meeting these two and talking music with them, but there are a few notes about this interview that seem pertinent enough to make. For starters, the sound on their end isn't amazing. My setup is geared for one-on-one interviews, so I had to figure out where to seat two guests, and keep my fingers crossed that their shared mic would be sufficient, which it darn near wasn't. So, I apologize if you have to strain to hear them. The second piece is that we kind of found a window in which to sit and chat late in the game, so my prep for the conversation was not up to par. And perhaps as a result of feeling frazzled about pulling things off, I fumbled during Jesse's list and essentially skipped over her Subhumans record almost entirely. My apologies to both Jesse and Subhumans for that.Nevertheless, a good conversation between a still-somewhat-novice podcast host and a pair of badass-but-soft-spoken business/life partners. What they're doing is rad and I'm grateful they stopped by.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to either the promo or the intro/outro audio. Matt Jacobson joins Dr. Mark Turman to discuss being a biblical spouse, the pornography epidemic, how to have freedom from sexual temptation, and the power we have amid spiritual warfare through our identity in Christ. Show notes: Matt Jacobson begins by talking about his testimony, biblical marriage, and the severity of the sin of fornication in the Bible (1:32). Jacobson says that the way Christians believe the lie that they are weak in confronting sexual temptation leads to bondage (14:36). He emphasizes the spiritual warfare around us and at the same time, the choice we have to sin (17:21). They discuss how pornography leads to lonely emptiness, and why Christians must know their power in the Spirit (30:59). Jacobson talks about practical ways to fight the spiritual battle against sexual temptation, drawing on our identity as children of God (39:42). They close with advice for parents and a word of grace and hope for those addicted to pornography (47:53).
