Yuval Noah Harari's conversation with Ezra Klein exposes something theologians have been slow to name: MAGA is not a political movement — it's a redemption narrative. And redemption narratives are the most powerful force in human history. Pat Kahnke and Adam Swenson break down what Harari gets right, where theology goes further, and why Christian nationalism has succeeded by replacing the Gospel with a story that feels better than the truth.

The Weaponized Wound: Trauma, Belief Engineering & the Fatal Flaw in the Control Mechanism

The UFO Rabbit Hole Podcast

Why do anomalous experiences so often arrive in the wake of trauma? And what happens when the people who understand that connection decide to use it as a weapon? This episode of Inquiry follows trauma as the hidden throughline connecting UFOs, consciousness, psychological operations, and the engineering of belief at scale. Kelly Chase starts with how human perception actually works, drawing on Donald Hoffman's "The Case Against Reality," James Madden's umwelt and über-umwelt from "Unidentified Flying Hyperobject," and Jeffrey Kripal's Filter Thesis, then grounds it all in the predictive processing model of the brain and Karl Friston's free energy principle. The picture that emerges is unsettling: trauma doesn't only wound a person, it makes them porous, loosening the filters that hold consensus reality in place. From there the conversation turns toward how that vulnerability has been exploited. It traces belief manipulation from the 1980 "From PSYOP to MindWar" paper by Michael Aquino and Paul Vallely, through MKULTRA and Operation Mockingbird, to the declassified reality of Operation Northwoods and the manufacturing of consent. It brings in Jacques Vallée's control system hypothesis and Colm Kelleher's concept of bidirectional mimicry to ask whether human institutions and the phenomenon itself may be using the same lever: disruption, destabilization, and the reshaping of belief in the rupture's aftermath. Then it turns the dread on its head. Research on openness to experience and Post-Traumatic Growth suggests the architects of mass stress made a critical miscalculation. Trauma creates openings, and openings go both ways. You can crack the shell of consensus reality to make people malleable, but you cannot control what hatches. Topics explored: Trauma and anomalous experience | experiencer patterns | the Filter Thesis | Donald Hoffman | perception as interface | umwelt and über-umwelt | James Madden | Jeffrey Kripal | predictive processing | Karl Friston | free energy principle | belief malleability | shattered assumptions | meaning violation | belief engineering | MindWar | Michael Aquino | Paul Vallely | psychological operations | MKULTRA | Operation Mockingbird | cognitive sovereignty | bidirectional mimicry | Colm Kelleher | black triangle craft | Jacques Vallée | control system hypothesis | Operation Northwoods | manufactured consent | openness to experience | Post-Traumatic Growth | consciousness-level immune response | non-human intelligence | contact experiences Inquiry with Kelly Chase is brought to you by SpectreVision Radio.Produced in partnership with Voltage.fm.  Referenced In This Episode The Case Against Reality: Why Evolution Hid the Truth from Our Eyes — Donald Hoffman (2019) Unidentified Flying Hyperobject: UFOs, Philosophy, and the End of the World — James Madden (2023) How to Think Impossibly: About Souls, UFOs, Time, Belief, and Everything Else — Jeffrey J. Most writers are being taught a dangerous misconception about character development—and it's quietly weakening their stories. The idea that every protagonist must have a “fatal flaw” has become one of the most repeated rules in modern storytelling. But what if that advice is not just oversimplified… but fundamentally wrong? In this episode of The Storyteller's Mission with Zena Dell Lowe, we break down why many writers are mislabeling strong character traits as fatal flaws—and how that mistake can flatten your hero instead of deepening them.We also explore how today's anti-hero culture has reshaped what audiences and writers believe “depth” looks like, often confusing moral strength with weakness. Here's what you'll learn in this episode:Why not every difficult or disruptive trait is actually a flawThe critical difference between character traits, emotional wounds, and true fatal flawsHow anti-hero storytelling has distorted modern character developmentWhy conviction, loyalty, and moral clarity are often wrongly reframed as problemsThe practical test to determine whether a trait should be changed—or protectedIf you've been trying to make your protagonist more “complex” by breaking them down, this episode will challenge that instinct and give you a clearer framework for building stronger, more resonant characters.Stop weakening your hero to make them interesting—and start building characters who are compelling because of what they stand for, not in spite of it.Watch this episode on YouTubeFree Resources for Writers:Seven Deadly Plot Points FREE TRAINING VIDEO Free Video Tutorial for ScreenwritingSign up for The Storyteller's Digest, my exclusive bi-monthly newsletter for writers and storytellers. Is the NBA draft lottery rigged to reward losing? Veteran NBA insider Ric Bucher sits down with Dr. TJ Highley, Associate Professor of Math & Computer Science at LaSalle University, who has developed a groundbreaking anti-tanking formula that could change the NBA forever — and it doesn't involve eliminating the draft.Highley's COLA (Carryover Lottery Allocation) system strips tanking of its incentive by rewarding playoff history instead of regular season losses. Teams would accumulate lottery tickets over time based on sustained failure — not deliberate losing — making intentional tanking mathematically pointless. But Bucher pushes back with 30 years of hard-won NBA knowledge: not every owner wants to win. Some — following the Donald Sterling playbook — are perfectly content selling hope while pocketing profits. Can any formula fix that?Plus: Bucher delivers a candid reassessment of the Denver Nuggets title chances and why the Michael Porter Jr. trade may have cost them more than anyone realized — rebounding. Self-Awareness, Mindset, and Audience Focus: Michael Delisswe John chats with executive communication coach Michael Delissa about self-awareness, feedback, and mindset in presentations, arguing that most presentation problems are internal rather than technical. Dea shares a humiliating early experience when a professor publicly flagged his filler words, and explains how he now builds self-awareness by recording speakers and letting them see distractions for themselves. They discuss avoiding perfectionism, reducing distracting habits without sounding robotic, and focusing on outcomes and audience needs rather than what the presenter wants to say. Dea highlights common issues such as covering too much, weak flow, lack of customisation, and insufficient emotional connection to the audience's pain points. He frames effective persuasion around trust, logic, and emotional connection, ties improvement to leveraging strengths and minimising “fatal flaws,” and promotes continual feedback, daily practice, and his book Leadership Accelerators on emotional intelligence, communication habits, and personality. David Bell sits down with Ian Bick to break down his unconventional path through the criminal justice system — from going to law school for tax law and working at a major firm to walking away and joining the Missouri Public Defender. In this episode, David explains why he chose public defense, what it's really like defending society's “worst of the worst,” and how that experience reshaped his view of justice. He dives deep into sentencing guidelines, the use of “ghost dope” to inflate sentences, systemic changes in criminal law, and the real differences between public defenders and paid attorneys. Now in private criminal defense practice in Kansas City, David offers an honest, inside look at how cases are charged, sentenced, and defended — and what most people don't understand about how the system actually works. _____________________________________________ #ianbick #criminaldefense #federalprison #publicdefender #justicesystem #pleadeal #prisonreform #truecrime _____________________________________________ Thank you to 300 LETTERS for sponsoring this episode: Visit https://300letters.org/ to learn more or get support. What separates messages that get ignored from ideas that inspire movements? Jay Acunzo has built his career creating frameworks that stick, ideas so distinctive they become inseparable from his name. In this conversation, he reveals why most business communication fails to move people and shares the hidden structure behind narratives that transform understanding into action. If you've ever wondered why some leaders can rally teams and attract ideal clients effortlessly while others struggle to get buy-in, this episode exposes the systematic difference. The Fatal Flaw in Business Communication Most leaders are optimizing for the wrong metric entirely. Jay reveals why the conventional approach to reaching your audience actually weakens your influence—and introduces a counterintuitive principle that makes your message magnetic to the people who matter most. The question that changes everything: Are you broadcasting or building something deeper? How to Build Ideas That Become Competitive Advantages Jay pulls back the curtain on his process for developing intellectual property that competitors can't copy. This isn't about being first to market. It's about creating frameworks so aligned with your unique perspective that they become your signature—your professional lighthouse that ideal clients naturally navigate toward. What you'll discover: The iterative testing system Jay uses before an idea goes public Why the "messy middle" is where your most valuable thinking happens The difference between borrowed wisdom and ownable IP The insight: Your best ideas aren't found—they're systematically developed through a specific refinement process. The AI Trap Most Leaders Are Falling Into Here's what nobody's talking about with AI tools: They can make you faster while making you forgettable. Jay shares his selective framework for when AI enhances your thinking versus when it dilutes the very thing that makes your communication magnetic. The warning: There's a hidden cost to automation that shows up in your influence, not your efficiency metrics. The opportunity: A smarter integration approach that amplifies your voice instead of replacing it. The 6-Step Structure Behind Every Persuasive Narrative Want to know how master communicators move people from "I understand" to "I must act"? Jay breaks down the exact framework he uses to construct arguments that don't just inform—they transform. This is the systematic structure behind presentations that get standing ovations, pitches that close deals, and content that converts browsers into believers. What makes this different: Most people start their narrative in the wrong place. Jay reveals where persuasion actually begins and the specific progression that builds unstoppable momentum toward action. Fair warning: Once you see this structure, you'll recognize it everywhere—and you'll never communicate the same way again.

This episode is especially for writers, storytellers, and worldview-driven creatives working with trauma, redemption, and transformation arcs.In great storytelling, a character's problem isn't just what happened to them. It's the lie they believe because of it. How to Engineer Customers on Repeat with Joanna Wiebe

Dig to Fly

Most small business owners treat marketing like throwing spaghetti at the wall. You try Facebook ads. You update your website. You send out newsletters. Sometimes it works. Mostly it doesn't. And you have no idea why. Joanna Wiebe has a different approach: treat marketing like an engineering system, not a creative guessing game. As the founder of Copy Hackers, Joanna has spent years helping businesses build what she calls a "Copy Selling System". A repeatable assembly line that moves prospects from complete strangers to paying customers. No more random tactics. No more copying what worked for someone else's business. Just a structured, measurable process that works for YOUR customers. The Fatal Flaw in Most Marketing Here's the mistake almost every small business makes: they skip straight to talking about their product features. You've got a great service. You know all the bells and whistles. So naturally, you lead with those details, right? Wrong. Your prospects aren't ready to hear about your features yet. They don't even know they have a problem you can solve. Or if they do know they have a problem, they're still exploring different types of solutions. Joanna breaks down the journey every buyer takes through five distinct stages of awareness – and your message needs to match where they are in that journey. Jump ahead too fast, and you lose them. The Single Question That Changes Everything Want to know the secret to writing copy that actually resonates? Stop making it up and start listening. Joanna's team uses a brilliantly simple system: a one-question survey that appears on confirmation pages right after someone takes action. "What was going on in your life that brought you to [action] today?" That's it. One question. But the responses? Pure gold. People tell you their exact pain points, in their own words, at the exact moment they're most optimistic about solving their problem. This isn't feedback from angry customers on their way out. This is insight from engaged prospects who just voted with their wallet. This voice-of-customer data becomes the foundation for every piece of marketing you create. You're not guessing what matters to your audience. They're telling you directly. Make Your Solution Unforgettable Here's a five-minute exercise that could transform your positioning: Name the specific problem you solve. Not a general category, the exact issue your customers face. Name the specific mechanism in your service that solves it. What's the unique approach, process, or "secret sauce" that makes your solution work? Joanna calls these your "Unique Problem Mechanism" and "Unique Solution Mechanism." When you can articulate both clearly, you create a memorable, defensible position in the market. Think about Lucky Strike's "It's toasted" or TurboTax's "Refund Calculator." These aren't just taglines – they're named mechanisms that explain exactly how the product solves a specific problem. What's yours? Why AI Makes This Even More Critical With ChatGPT and other AI tools flooding the market with generic copy, standing out has never been more important, or more difficult. AI can write copy. But it can't interview your customers. It can't identify the specific pain points that drive your buyers. It can't build a systematic process that fits your business model. That's where you come in. The businesses that win in this new landscape won't be the ones with the fanciest AI prompts. They'll be the ones with the strongest systems, the deepest customer insights, and the clearest positioning.
