For our Federal Election 2019 episode, we welcome the University of Victoria's Grace Lore to provide razor-sharp analysis and insight into #Elxn43 to date - from a feminist perspective. Grace walks us through some of the data and critical issues that women (and persons who identify as female) care about the most in the election, and also tackles the extent to which gender is - or isn't - being talked about in this campaign. And in WTF, Maria calls bullshit on the one of the biggest issues of this campaign - one that keeps rearing its very ugly head, as much as some people wish we could just "move on" - and that's systemic racism and white supremacy in Canada. What. The. Fuck.
Today we look at the Green Party, the Liberal platform AND Trudeau's Blackface incident.
In the lead up to the recent Australian federal election, David and Nicole interviewed social researcher Rebecca Huntley and senior lecturer in economics, Jingjing Zhang. The information was in and the polls had led to predictions of the outcome. As we all now know, the outcome of the election was a surprise to everyone, particularly the major parties. In light of the shock results, the team went back into the studio to go back to the theory in light of the information and unpick what happened. By going back to the interviews, Nicole and David ask: What does it mean to have opinion polls and what does it mean to vote?Further Reading:Rebecca Huntley’s article, Australia Fair, is available from the Quarterly Essay in any good book shop. You can find more information on Jingjing’s research on the UTS Business School website. For official election information, visit the Australian Electoral Commission’s websiteMusic: Gunnar Johnsen, Fabien Tell, Dew Of Light, Peter Sandberg, Flouw, Rand Aldo and Mo Stacks

Warhaft, Hewson and Grattan — Photo: Johnboy Davidson / José Eveline What are the major parties offering, in terms of health, education, housing and climate policy? Which policies can really swing voters? How will the minor and single-issue parties fare in the Senate? Will Tony Abbott hold on to Warringah? Can Bill Shorten be our new Prime Minister? And is anything as exotic as leadership stability possible in the 46th Parliament?
