Hij geeft ze bijvoorbeeld het uiterlijk van een archeologische opgraving, met als verschil dat wat wordt opgegraven uit de toekomst lijkt te komen, in plaats van uit het verleden. Of hij laat je via een houten stellage afdalen in een sluis, met een metershoge watermassa aan de andere kant, om een fysieke ervaring te koppelen aan het abstracte idee van dreigend water dat door klimaatverandering op ons af zou kunnen komen. De kleine offers die op de stellage geplaatst zijn, versterken het rituele karakter van het werk. Zo fungeren Thijs' installaties als plek om te reflecteren en toekomstscenario's te verbeelden.
