Addiction, Accommodation, and Vulnerability in Psychoanalysis: Circles Without a Center (Routledge, 2022) explores the compulsions and trauma that underlie addiction, using an intersubjective approach in seeking to understand the inspirations and challenges arising from the psychoanalytic treatment of addiction, compulsivity, and related dissociative conditions. Drawing on insights from his own analytic practice and personal experience, in addition to the work of Stolorow, Brandchaft and Winnicott, among others, Haber considers the complex ways in which addiction becomes woven into a person's life, and analyses how it interacts with other problems such as depression and anxiety, self-fragmentation, and ambivalence about treatment. Editor – Greg O'Bryant Tuner editor Greg O'Bryant returns to the podcast to discuss cutting a film that is part crime thriller, part romance, part character study, part music movie and part very compelling argument for keeping your ears covered in New York City. Directed by Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Daniel Roher, Tuner stars Leo Woodall as Niki, a gifted piano tuner whose hypersensitive hearing makes every day sound almost unbearable. That same extraordinary hearing also gives Niki an unexpected talent for cracking safes, pulling him from a quiet life of tuning pianos into an increasingly dangerous criminal world. The film also stars Dustin Hoffman as Harry, Niki's mentor, Havana Rose Liu as Ruthie, a young composer, along with Lior Raz, Jean Reno and Tovah Feldshuh. One of the biggest challenges on Tuner was the sheer amount of footage. Roher shot a large volume of material over a short production schedule, giving Greg and his assistant a mountain of performances, musical material, safe-cracking details and improvisation to shape into the final film. Greg discusses how he approached that process by focusing on subjectivity — using the edit to put the audience inside Niki's experience rather than simply moving through the plot. Sound was another major topic of conversation. Because Niki experiences the world through hyper-sensitive hearing, the editorial and sound teams had to build a language for when the audience enters his point of view.  Which meant figuring out how much of that experience to hear, and how to make the effect clear without making it punishing. O'Bryant also talks about working with sound designer Johnnie Burn, composer Will Bates and executive music producer Marius de Vries to balance the film's sound design, live music and score. George Russell Congratulations to Lewis (Hamilton). He drove a really impressive race today after being incredibly quick in Qualifying yesterday. Coming into the weekend, I don't think we expected that pace from Ferrari, so we know we've got a challenge coming from them in the races ahead. We will be working hard to tackle that challenge and get back to winning ways. On my side, the race today was not straightforward. I was struggling with the tyres towards the end of my second and third stints; the Virtual Safety Car didn't help us either and it would have been a fascinating race with Lewis without that. I will take the positives from this weekend though. It has been clean from the very start and I come away with 18 points, which is 18 points more than I managed across Canada and Monaco! We will regroup in the week ahead and look to improve for Austria. We've got a big double-header coming up with Spielberg and Silverstone and I am already excited for it. Kimi Antonelli It is very disappointing to retire from P2, but these things can happen in racing. George suffered an issue in Canada and now it's happened to me; we know our reliability is something we need to work on and I am sure the team will be pushing incredibly hard to improve that. It's more important points that we've lost but we must remember that it is the first year of these new regulations and we are all learning quickly. Congratulations to Lewis (Hamilton) on his victory today. He is a great driver and has been so much help in my career so far. I am pleased to see him up there once again as he really deserves it. I think we had the pace today to challenge him for the win, but the Virtual Safety Car came out at a bad time for us, and we didn't get to see how things would have played out. We have one week without racing before returning in Austria. We have seen our competitors take a step forward here this weekend and we will need to raise our game there if we want to fight for victory again. We will pick ourselves up, learn from this weekend, and come back stronger. MAX VERSTAPPEN - 4th "Today we just didn't have the pace to keep up with the cars ahead. I was really just doing my own race as we were a little bit behind the guys that finished in front of me. As a Team we did everything right, it was the winning strategy, so we made the right call there with the tyres. We were just too slow compared to the cars ahead on each compound, unfortunately. We tried our best and put everything into it but ultimately the whole weekend was a bit tough for us. We do struggle more with these high energy tracks with high degradation and we just need to work on things and try to find more pace in the upcoming races." ISACK HADJAR - 6th "I felt like I had good pace this weekend once we got to Qualifying and the race, but I had a shocker at the race start with so much wheelspin, so that's one aspect I really want to focus on before Red Bull Ring. We could have fought with Oscar if we had a good start, so it's a bit of a shame. I think we did way better than we thought we would this weekend given the track layout and conditions. Austria will be a better track for us, and we expect to have a stronger car. We just need to work on the starts." TOYOTA TAKE ITS SIXTH VICTORY AT LE MANS Toyota executed a perfect, textbook strategy throughout the 94th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans to claim its first victory since 2022, securing a sixth overall triumph and equalling the tally of British marque Bentley.     To spectacular fanfare, Japanese powerhouse Toyota Racing lifted the iconic trophy at a sun-kissed Circuit de la Sarthe for the first time in four years, in front of hundreds of thousands of spectators at the venue and millions more watching around the world. Drivers Kamui Kobayashi, Nyck de Vries and Mike Conway emerged as the team to beat at the end of the race, guiding the #7 Toyota to victory ahead of the sister #8 Toyota Racing entry, the #20 BMW M Team WRT and the #12 Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA machine in an epic four-way battle to the chequered flag – underlining the "Platinum Era" status that the Hypercar category is building. For Kobayashi, it was a second Le Mans victory. It marked a second triumph for British star Mike Conway and, for the first time in 38 years, a historic win for the Netherlands as Nyck de Vries became the latest Dutch driver to conquer Le Mans. Vijftig jaar na een van de meest opzienbarende acties van de vrouwenbeweging, de bezetting van abortuskliniek Bloemenhove, onderzoeken we aan welke vernieuwing het abortusrecht anno 2026 toe is.In mei 1976 bezetten feministen – onder wie sprekers Anja Meulenbelt en Marjan Sax – bijna twee weken lang de abortuskliniek Bloemenhove in Heemstede. Met de bezetting probeerden feministen de sluiting van de abortuskliniek Bloemenhove door toenmalig minister van Justitie Dries van Agt te voorkomen. De sfeer was speels, maar ondertussen lag een inval van de ME onophoudend op de loer. Terwijl politici debatteerden over het lot van de kliniek, groeide de bezetting uit tot een van de meest opzienbarende acties van de vrouwenbeweging. Niet veel later volgde de invoering van de huidige abortuswet. Schrijver en onderzoeker Sanne Thierens schreef over deze episode het boek De bezetting.Vandaag de dag pleit een brede beweging voor decriminalisering en het schrappen van abortus uit het wetboek van strafrecht. Of liever: voor de verankering van abortus in de grondwet. Om de abortuspil die sinds kort zonder tussenkomst van een huis- of abortusarts online te bestellen is, is veel te doen. Zijn wetgeving en debat, vijftig jaar na dato, niet aan vernieuwing toe? De Ghanese Kwasi Wiredu, die in 2022 overleed, was één van de grootste Afrikaanse filosofen van zijn generatie. Hij pleitte voor de dekolonisatie van het Afrikaanse denken en een ‘consensusmodel' voor postkoloniale Afrikaanse staten. Hij bestudeerde de filosofie onder de Akan, de grootste bevolkingsgroep in West-Afrika, waarin de vraag ‘wat maakt een biologisch mens tot een waarachtig persoon' centraal staat. Deze filosofie, waarin de gemeenschap leidend is, staat haaks op de meeste westerse filosofieën.  Presentator Nathan de Vries, zoon van een Ghanese vader, gaat aan de hand van zijn persoonlijke geschiedenis in gesprek met mensen die de filosofie van Wiredu goed kennen. Tijdens deze podcast gaan we in op de nieuwste ontwikkelingen waarmee Mark van Zelst de automotive verbetert.   Mark van Zelst is een ervaren e-commerce ondernemer met een rijke geschiedenis in de automotive wereld. Hij was onder andere CEO bij Autotrack, Easy Buy en Bynco Next Car, en werkte eerder als commercieel directeur bij Pricewise en bij Coolblue. Zijn carrière begon ooit als autoverkoper bij Van Marwijk in Leiden, waar de autoliefde zijn oorsprong vond. Die combinatie van e-commerce expertise en passie voor auto's vormt de basis voor zijn nieuwste onderneming: Carvendo.   Carvendo is de Nederlandse startup die de online verkoop van tweedehands auto's naar een hoger niveau wil tillen. De naam is bewust gekozen: "car" spreekt voor zich, en "vendo" betekent in veel talen een afleiding van verkopen. Bovendien wordt de naam in elke taal hetzelfde uitgesproken, wat de internationale ambities van het bedrijf ondersteunt. Mark richtte Carvendo op samen met Niels, een voormalige senior verkoper bij Bynco, nadat Autotrack besloot te stoppen met de Easy Buy service. In plaats van te berusten in die beslissing, koos Mark voor een frisse start: "ik begin opnieuw."   Tijdens de podcast bespreekt Paul de Vries uitgebreid de definitie van online autoverkoop. Is een auto online verkocht als de klant via Marktplaats contact opneemt en vervolgens langsskomt? Of is het pas echt online als de volledige transactie digitaal plaatsvindt zonder enig fysiek contact? Mark legt uit dat Carvendo kiest voor een hybride aanpak die verder gaat dan een klassieke advertentiewebsite. Klanten kunnen direct een bestelling plaatsen op het platform, zonder dat er contact nodig is met het bedrijf. Tegelijkertijd wordt er altijd de mogelijkheid geboden om een proefrit te maken bij de dealer, wat het vertrouwen vergroot en het retourrecht bij gebruik overbodig maakt.   Een belangrijke doelgroep voor Carvendo zijn expats. Deze groep mensen komt naar Nederland, kent de lokale markt niet goed, en wil ontzorgd worden bij de aankoop van een auto. Ze zijn vaak gewend aan volledig digitale processen vanuit hun land van herkomst en vinden in Carvendo een betrouwbare partner. Vanuit de Bynco-tijd wist Mark al dat expats een grote en loyale kopersgroep vormen, en die kennis past hij nu opnieuw toe.   Het platform werkt uitsluitend met auto's die voldoen aan specifieke kwaliteitseisen: maximaal vijftien jaar oud en maximaal 175.000 kilometer op de teller. Alle auto's worden geleverd met minimaal 12 maanden garantie en moeten de eerste 12.000 kilometer onderhoudsvrij zijn. Inruilen is ook mogelijk: de klant levert digitaal alle informatie aan, de dealer geeft een bod, en Carvendo verzorgt de communicatie. Voor dit inruilproces wordt een kleine vergoeding van €75 gevraagd, naast de succesvergoeding die pas wordt betaald op het moment dat er daadwerkelijk een auto wordt verkocht.   Na een succesvolle eerste drie maanden, waarbij Carvendo elke dag gemiddeld één auto verkocht én winst maakte zonder extern kapitaal, kijkt Mark vol vertrouwen naar de toekomst. De volgende stap is de introductie van private occasionlease, in samenwerking met een leasepartner. Hiermee wordt Carvendo in één klap één van de grootste aanbieders van private occasionlease in Nederland, dankzij het brede aanbod van inmiddels meer dan tienduizend auto's op het platform.   Op het gebied van marketing kiest Carvendo voor een slimme, datagedreven aanpak. Er wordt volop gebruikgemaakt van AI, zowel aan de voorkant van de website – met een AI-gestuurde zoektool waarmee klanten in natuurlijke taal kunnen zoeken – als aan de achterkant via geautomatiseerde processen in het CRM-systeem Zoho. Blogs worden wekelijks gepubliceerd om de vindbaarheid te vergroten, en er wordt gewerkt aan bredere naamsbekendheid via sociale media en zoekmachineadvertenties.   Carvendo staat open voor alle soorten autobedrijven: van merkdealers tot universele autobedrijven en bedrijfswagenbedrijven.
