Steve's insights illuminate how this trait is making waves in different markets, providing a glimpse into both the triumphs and the delicate balancing act breeding programs must perform. Our chat transcends the technical, as Steve shares the hard-won life lessons behind his rise to success. His personal journey is a raw narrative of overcoming adversity, battling substance abuse, and embracing fatherhood, all of which molded him into the role model he is today. It's an intimate look at resilience and redemption, serving as an inspirational soundtrack to anyone seeking to break molds and redefine success. Biosecurity in feed mills and on-farm feed storage should not be overlooked when it comes to managing the risk of Salmonella in poultry flocks, according to a turkey-health expert. Genevieve Huard, DVM, of Hendrix Genetics in Ontario, Canada, said while Salmonella can be found in many places on-farm, it is often forgotten that feed can become contaminated at various stages in the production process.

Training chicks and pullets so they are prepared for life in cage-free egg systems is critical to ensuring they meet their full productive potential, according to a leading veterinarian.Isa Ehr, DVM, a technical services veterinarian with Hendrix Genetics, said birds reared in conventional pullet houses could find moving to cage-free barns difficult, leading to feeding and laying issues. But, he said, by raising pullets in systems which closely resemble or match the lay houses they will be transferred to, egg production is less likely to be affected.
