Kim Dacres is a first-generation American sculptor of Jamaican descent, who lives in Harlem and works in the Bronx. Dacres's work has been exhibited around the world, including recent solo exhibitions in Paris, New York, NY, and Los Angeles, CA. The artist's first site-specific and permanent outdoor sculptural installation, in partnership with Artbridge at the historic Harlem River Houses, was unveiled in June 2026.  She has a MS.Ed from CUNY Lehman College in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (2010) and a BA from Williams College in, Political Science, Art Studio, and Africana Studies (2008.). Kim spent ten years teaching and leading in New York City public schools before becoming an artist.  Dacres's work has been exhibited around the world, including solo exhibitions at Charles Moffett Gallery in New York, (2023), Gavlak Gallery in Los Angeles, CA (2020) and Palm Beach, FL (2021). Six years on, Old School holds official partnerships and licences with the Springboks, Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, Manchester City and the NBA, and operates branded stores across the country. With Bafana Bafana back at the Football World Cup for the first time in 16 years, Old School is now the official supporters' brand, and their Bafana kit has become so popular that, as Stef Steinmann puts it, “people are sleeping in their jerseys.” In an interview with BizNews, he reflects on their journey and the brother dynamic, how Daneel knocks on doors “making promises” while Stef makes sure those promises are kept, a balance that works. Daneel is already on the ground with Bafana Bafana in Mexico, where they played their first match, while Stef, delayed by a visa issue, is holding the fort in South Africa. To get Cape fynbos and proteas ready for the Chelsea Flower Show after wildfire one year and drenching rain the next is no small feat. But Leon Kluge, South Africa's plant guru and master designer, has done it again. This year he returned from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London, the world's most prestigious floral showcase, with not only a Gold medal but also the coveted Best Exhibit in the Great Pavilion for Life After Fire. The display, one of South Africa's largest ever at Chelsea, featured 20,000 stems, thousands of burnt protea branches and even blooms from the Drakensberg. In an interview with BizNews, Kluge describes the hurdles he and artist Tristan Woudberg faced, from hostile weather to the soaring cost of flights. South Africans will be able to see the exhibition in September in Stanford in the Overberg, an event dedicated to the community and the flower pickers who helped make it possible. Kluge says South Africa's natural spaces are becoming fewer and more fragile, and that he sees it as his responsibility to tell the story of an ecosystem that is both uniquely vulnerable and admired around the world. – Linda van Tilburg

Bij recente lokale protesten tegen de komst van asielzoekerscentra en -opvangplekken waren vlaggen en andere symbolen van het extreemrechtse netwerk Identitair Verzet (IDV), te zien. Jelle Postma, van de stichting Justice for Prosperity, deed er onderzoek naar en vertelt in de podcast hoe deze groepering na een periode van relatieve stilte opeens weer opleeft.  Identitair Verzet dook onder andere op bij protesten in Loosdrecht, IJsselstein en Tilburg. Volgens Postma misbruiken ze  legitieme demonstraties van bezorgde burgers voor hun eigen gewin. The United Kingdom remains a stable and attractive property investment destination for South Africans, says Mikayla Morkel-Brink from immigration specialists Sable International. She explained to Biznews in an interview that rental demand is driven by a chronic undersupply of housing and consistently high tenant demand. For South Africans, the appeal is reinforced by realistic net yields of 7–8% and mortgage rates of around 4–5%, far lower than in South Africa. Asked whether the upcoming Renters' Rights Act will affect landlords, MorkelBrink says the shift toward more openended leases, rather than fixed 12month contracts, is unlikely to have a significant impact in the regional university university cities such as Leeds and Birmingham where Sable operates. Jock of the Bushveld, the classic story of how the runt of the litter became the trusted, gutsy companion of Sir Percy FitzPatrick during South Africa's goldmining era, is one of the country's most enduring stories. The book once outsold the Bible locally and was adapted into a feature film by producer Duncan MacNeillie, released in 1986. Now, a new generation will be able to see the film, which is being upscaled in 4K with the help of AI. In an interview with BizNews, MacNeillie said his original master copy of the film was destroyed and that, for years, he tried unsuccessfully to upgrade the film, which enjoyed one of the longest theatrical runs in SterKinekor's history. Financially, the theme song, Spirit of the Great Heart, became Johnny Clegg's most successful song. With recent advances in AI, MacNeillie is now able to restore and rerelease the film for a new generation. While Disney showed interest at the time, the film was blocked internationally because of apartheid. A stolen ID led him to uncover fraud in the SASSA grant system. South Africa's housing backlog exceeds 2.5 million units, with more than 4,000 informal settlements straining municipalities for serviced land. KwaMashu-born architect Wandile Mthiyane, who grew up in a mud-brick shack, is developing Ubuntu Home – an AI platform designed to provide people with land, services and AI tools so they can design and build their own homes. In a Biznews interview, Mthiyane recalls his aunt receiving a Mandela-era housing list number but recently dying still in the same shack. He says the crisis needs decentralised solutions, not more top-down contractors. The Obama fellow and future Harvard student launched the Walk for Home to raise R3 million to develop and scale the platform. South Africa's Hartebeesthoek ground station has once again proven its strategic value in deep space exploration, delivering critical tracking support for NASA's historic Artemis II mission, the first crewed lunar flyby in over 50 years. I started teaching children from 6 years old up to 20. I had non-auditioned groups and more advanced students. Between 1992 and 1996 he got a Bachelor's Degree in Composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (ESML), studying under Christopher Bochmann and António Pinho Vargas.Between 1997 and 2002 he studied Choir Conducting at the Utrechts Conservatorium and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam under Daniel Reuss, Jos Vermunt and Jos van Veldhoven. His Bachelor's Degree's final exam included both classical music and close-harmony (jazz, latin and pop music for vocal ensembles), a genre in which he has been specializing for many years while singing in, conducting and writing for several choirs and vocal groups. He followed summer courses and workshops in this genre with, among others, Darmon Meader, Peter Eldridge, Kim Nazarian and Lauren Kinhan (New York Voices), Michele Weir and Phil Mattson (P.M. Singers), Anders Edenroth and Peder Karlson (The Real Group), Ward Swingle and Jonathan Rathbone (The Swingle Singers) and Jens Johanssen (Vocal Line). In 2011 and 2012 he got two Master's Degrees in Choral Conducting (both Performance and Teaching) at the ESML.Between 1994 and 1997 he taught Choir, Chamber Music and Harmony and Musical Analysis at the AAM and the Escola de Música do Orfeão de Leiria. Since 2005 he has been a Choir teacher at EAMCN, heading the Ensemble Music Department since 2024.In Portugal, the Netherlands and Czechia he conducted several choirs and sang in high level ensembles of music genres such as early music, opera, contemporary and close-harmony. Adriaan Wildschutt came so close to an Olympic medal in Paris, delivering the country's strongest performance at the 2024 Games. With no track world championships on the calendar this year, Wildschutt shifted his focus to the roads and stormed to victory at the New York City Half Marathon in a blistering 59:30. Speaking to BizNews from Arizona, where he trains at altitude, Wildschutt reflected on a journey that began in Ceres and was propelled by a Zola Budd athletics scholarship that took him to the US. He now has his eye on the marathon at the LA Olympics in 2028. Georgia Begbie ist in Ittigen (BE) aufgewachsen, hat irisch-schottische Wurzeln und lebt heute als Profitänzerin in Mannheim. Beim Tanzfestival «Steps» steht sie dieses Jahr erstmals selbst auf der Bühne. Ein lang gehegter Traum. Die 31-jährige Georgia Begbie entdeckte das Tanzen mit vierzehn Jahren. Nach ersten Jazzdance-Stunden in Ostermundigen führte sie ihr Weg nach Dublin und später an die renommierte Fontys-Tanzschule in Tilburg in den Niederlanden. Dort fand sie ihre künstlerische Heimat im zeitgenössischen Tanz: «Ich habe relativ spät mit dem Tanzen begonnen, aber ich wusste von Anfang an, ich will Tänzerin werden.» Dieses Jahr tritt sie erstmals beim renommierten Migros-Kulturprozent Tanzfestival Steps auf. Mit der belgischen Dance Company «Circumstances» und dem Stück «Beyond». Ein besonderer Moment in ihrer tänzerischen Laufbahn: «Früher sass ich im Publikum, heute darf ich mein Können auf der Bühne zeigen.» «Mannheim wirkt industriell aber dahinter pulsiert eine lebendige Subkultur.» Seit sieben Jahren lebt die Bernerin Georgia Begbie in Mannheim (D). Dort hat sie ihren Lebensmittelpunkt gefunden und in zahlreichen Tanzprojekten mitgewirkt. Auf den ersten Blick wirke die Stadt unscheinbar, doch ihr Charme zeigt sich schnell. Mannheim biete einiges. Eine kreative Szene, offene Menschen und mit dem Louisenpark am Neckarufer sogar ein idyllisches Naherholungsgebiet: «Wie wir hier zu sagen pflegen: Man weint zweimal in Mannheim. Wenn man ankommt und wenn man wieder gehen muss.»

Volgens de biograaf van Epstein misbruikte hij dagelijks 3 tot 4 meisjes. De aanwas moet enorm zijn geweest volgens hem.
