 Sunday, September 19, 2021 was the Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost and the last Sunday of the 'official' summer season. Our scripture reading came from Mark 10:32-45, another pericope from the Gospel's 10th chapter that explores the themes of Jesus' journey to Jerusalem, the disciples' desire for greatness, and the kingdom's insistence on service as an alternative to dominion. The passage inspired Pastor Derek to write the following poem and our Musician, Andy, to set the poem to music.  Astonished and afraid, Twelve disciples and a crowd,follow Christ who leads the way,Ain't no way to turn around. Up, Up, towards Jerusalem. The Holy Hill that boasts,Temple Mount and Lynching Tree,Life and death is now the toast.Behind the Dead Man Walking,Jesus told them where to go. Stay awake and pray he said, But even now eyes are closed. Sleepwalking in his footsteps,Glory now is the intent,To forget dire predictions,They sing a song of ascent:“Do for us whatever we ask,Fill our empty spaces!Do for us whatever we ask,In Glory prepare our places!” Jesus now stops the march, and turns to face the two, Eyes wet with tears he asks, “What do you want me to do?”“Up, Up, towards glory, We want to be with you!So when the kingdom comes, Reward us with a view!” “Reserve two seats of honor, Give us prominent places!People will look up to us, Let them see our faces.” The teacher's reply was simple, “You don't know what you're asking. My glory will be on a crossBetween two criminals I will be gasping.”“That is the cup I will drink, The baptism in which I will drown, This water flows only one wayAnd that direction is down.” Down, Down, is the call, To become the last and least, Do not sit at the place of honor, Be the servant at the feast. Another way is possible, A cloaked and hidden glory, Dominion not through domination, But an alternative type of story. The least will be the greatest, At the front a Child will lead, Glory to the lamb who was slain, And all creation will  be freed. Love and liberation, This is the only way, Let go of your expectations, And join this passion parade. 

I will extol thee, O Lord; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me. [2] O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. O Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. (Psalm 30:1-3) 4 Now, when you become a Christian, you—you come and confess Jesus to be your Saviour. You believe it. When you go outside, your—your critic friends, they say, “I don't see no difference in you.” But you believe there is. Then you go acting like there is, then after a while everybody knows there is. 5 See, Jesus [Blank spot on tape—Ed.] is the High Priest of our confession. He can't do nothing for you, till first you accept it and confess that it's already done. And He will make your body, your nature, come in subject to His Word. Do you understand now? See? You must act just like it's already done. 6 I remember when I was so sick, the best doctors I knew of, they said I couldn't live. I had stomach ulcers that was bursted. And they said that one mouthful of solid food, I would take acute indigestion and would die in a few moments. I was reading the Bible. He said, “When you ask anything, believe you receive it.” 7 I went out telling people that I was healed. When I'd swallow my food, it would try to come back up. I'd say, “Oh, no,” hold my hand over my mouth, swallow it back again. God promised. 8 I'd go down the street. They'd say, “Hello, Brother Branham. How you feel?” I'd say, “The Lord has healed me. Praise the Lord.” 9 Here come a big mouthful up; I'd swallow it back. I said, “Satan, if you don't like to hear me testify, you might as well go, for I believe Jesus told the truth. But if you want to stay around, you'll sure hear me testify of His healing power.” 10 The first thing you know, it was all gone. And when I went to show the doctor, he said, “Well, did you change doctors?” I said, “Yes, sir.” He—he said, “Who are you… be… going to now?” I said, “Doctor Jesus.” 11 He said… He scratched his head; he said, “I don't believe I ever heard of him,” said, “Where is his office?” 12 I said, “In Glory.” That's where His office is, but His power is here. 55-0625 - "Show Us The Father" Rev. Authentic Spirituality #3 Illuminated to Know God Better, Eph. 1:15-23 By Louie Marsh, 5-12-2019   IF I’M AUTHENTICALLY SPIRITUAL I…   1) Respond to God’s Work with THANKSGIVING.   15  For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16  I do not cease to give thanks for you… Ephesians 1:15-16a (ESV)   2) Always seek God for deeper SPIRITUAL GROWTH.   16  I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17  that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, Ephesians 1:16-17 (ESV)   I have a HOLY DISCONTENT.   I believe in the Kingdom come Then all the colors will bleed into one Bleed into one But yes, I'm still running You broke the bonds and you loosened chains carried the cross of my shame, of my shame You know I believe it But I still haven't found What I'm looking for     3) Constantly pray for the Spirit’s ministry of ILLUMINATION.   17  that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, Ephesians 1:17 (ESV)    The Goal is to FULLY KNOW GOD.   4) Pray for authentic spiritual knowledge.   18  having the eyes of your hearts enlightened… Ephesians 1:18a (ESV)   HEART KNOWLEDGE   So the king sent horses and chariots and a large fighting unit there. They came at night and surrounded the city. When the servant of the man of God got up in the morning and went outside, he saw troops, horses, and chariots surrounding the city. Elisha's servant asked, “Master, what should we do?” Elisha answered, “Don't be afraid. We have more forces on our side than they have on theirs.” Then Elisha prayed, “Lord, please open his eyes so that he may see.” The Lord opened the servant's eyes and let him see. The mountain around Elisha was full of fiery horses and chariots. 2 Kings 6:14-17 (GW)   BALANCED KNOWLEDGE – mind, will, emotion.   SEEING  - real through knowledge and experience.   FOUR GREAT TRUTHS I NEED TO SEE:   1) THE PAST: God planned a great PURPOSE FOR ME.   18  … that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you …Ephesians 1:18b (ESV)   2) THE FUTURE: My life ends IN GLORY!   18  … what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, Ephesians 1:18c (ESV)     3) THE PRESENT: God’s Power is IN & FOR ME!   19  and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might Ephesians 1:19 (ESV)   and what the surpassing greatness of his power towards us who believe, according to the working of the might of his strength, Ephesians 1:19 (Darby)   HIS POWER IS:    DYNAMIC   ENERGETIC   MIGHTY   STRONG   INCOMPARABLY GREAT     4) The Resurrection continues today IN ME!   20  that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21  far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. Ephesians 1:20-21 (ESV)   5) I must SUBMIT to Christ’s authority to find authentic wholeness.   22  And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23  which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. Ephesians 1:22-23 (ESV)   He is in charge of it all, has the final word on everything. At the center of all this, Christ rules the church. The church, you see, is not peripheral to the world; the world is peripheral to the church. The church is Christ's body, in which he speaks and acts, by which he fills everything with his presence. Ephesians 1:22-23 (MSG)

The Bible describes our "now" time in 1 Corinthians 13:12-13. During our time on the earth abides faith, hope, and love. God is love and has faith and vision. Love is greatest because it continues in Glory. Faith and hope won't be necessary. In Glory, redemption is complete and every hope is realized. On earth, hope motivates us to use our faith to make our hopes and dreams a reality.
