CoG Studios, CA -- The LA Galaxy have announced that they're bringing back Baggio Husidic and Ashley Cole! That brings the roster up to 17 players and really starts to solidify positions. And they finalized the announcements on the same day as Major League Soccer announced their full 2018 schedule. Your hosts, Josh Guesman and Britt Pergl are breaking down the two re-signings -- and don't think that Josh won't tell you about his pet peeve with regards to that word -- and try to determine whether or not these were needed players or bad decisions by a Galaxy staff that is on a short leash. Is Cole too old? Is Husidic not enough of an impact player? Or did the Galaxy need to sign these guys for what they can do on the field, but more importantly what they bring to the locker room off the field? Next, Josh and Britt will break down the Galaxy's 2018 schedule. There's one big problem with it, and Josh isn't shy about saying what it is. Will TV money ruin the in-stadium experience? Or is this just a temporary bump in the road? Your hosts will also highlight some of the key games, including the Galaxy's first matchup with LAFC, and their big visits from San Jose, Atlanta United, and the Seattle Sounders! Finally, Britt will give you her honest take on the Galaxy's roster and Josh will read an interesting article that could have been written about the Galaxy but was instead written about Barcelona. How do these two teams cross paths so easily? We've got more than 60-minutes of Galaxy talk headed your way during a packed show. Music Provided by Back Pocket Memory

Preek van 1 januari 2017De opname van deze preek is door omstandigheden niet goed gelukt. Onze excuses voor de ruis.A Unique TeenagerLuke 2:40-52There is so much more that is unique about Christ than His birth. For this reason we will continue this series from time to time to consider unique themes from the life of Christ. Today and on the 15th we will look at two moments in the unique life of Christ.Last week on Second Christmas Day we visited my parents in Veghel. As long as I can remember we have come together for Christmas dinner, though growing up we drove to Breda and had dinner around John and Anna Kay's giant table. We carry on the tradition even after John and Anna Kay have retired. We enjoy a Turkey dinner with all the trimmings and then sing English hymns and eat pie afterwards. This year we decided to drive to Valkenswaard after our dinner to sing hymns together with Madaline at the nursing home, Taxandria. It is about a thirty minute drive and of course Cole immediately pleaded with us if he could ride in oma and opa's car.We had about arrived at Taxandria when I realized that Cole was not in the car. I looked at Heather and said: “Is Cole in mom and dad's car?” She nodded and then added: “Wouldn't that have been bad? What would Cole have done?”These are moments that make up parenting. You're constantly aware of where your kids are and always worried about what they might be doing. It happens to me as I sit in my office and suddenly realize I don't hear the children. It prompts me to go an check to see what they are doing. Why? They're too quiet. No good ever comes from Children being too quiet.I find it fascinating that we read of such an “everyday” moment in the life of Christ. Luke 2 is the only account of the childhood of Christ. There is a chasm between His well-documented birth and the beginning of His ministry in His thirties. This account is included to prove to Theophilus that Christ was the Son of God and that even as a child there were clear indications of His uniqueness. His human developmentYou'd likely read over this introductory verse as chronicling the life of Christ, but don't miss its implications: Jesus grew healthy and strong. No more profound statement could be made of His humanity, but that He grew. He hit all the milestones: He learned to sleep through the night and crawl and eventually took His first step. He had his first haircut and learned to eat solid foods. He learned coordination and how to run and jump, He learned to dress himself and eat without making a mess. He learned how to read and like any good Jewish boy - He learned the Torah. He grew strong too. How do kids become stronger? They fail - and learn from their mistakes. They fall - scrape up their leg and get up again. They explore their curiosity and learn about life. Life was hard in those days and the Rome was cruel. Do away with any notion of a sterile and perfect environment for Christ to grow up in. He was in every way tempted like us - according to Hebrews - so that He is a sympathetic High Priest - yet without sin.At twelve years old He accompanies His parents to Jerusalem - just as He has every year. There is good evidence that this particular trip was special to Jesus, because He would undergo what Jews now call bar mitswah. At twelve years old a child because a son (or daughter) of the covenant, meaning that they were now personally responsible to know and keep the 613 laws and prohibitions in the Torah. In frightening circumstancesWhat is fascinating to me is that the stage that Luke sets is a parents' worst nightmare. You left your kid in a big city all by himself. You can imagine that Mary was about as worried as the mom in Home Alone. They had traveled a day's journey before they realized Jesus was missing. You don't travel by night, so they would have waited until morning to travel back. That makes two days. Can you imagine the horror of that day for Mary and Joseph? On day three they spend the entire day looking for Him before they find Him in the temple- unharmed.Jesus, however has spent this time in discussion with the religious leaders. They would one day turn on Him, but now they are amazed by His words. His super-human insightWhat Luke wants us to understand, however, is that Jesus was not worried as His parents were. He was convinced He was exactly where He was supposed to be. In His Father's house. I'll say more about that in a minute. There are four things I note about what takes place in the temple: Jesus sought out the teachers, He listened to them, He asked them questions, and He answers them. I think this is significant for us to consider. Yes, He is the Son of God and His understanding eclipses the understanding of any other twelve year old. But have your kids learned - by twelve - to seek out the Bible teachers and to listen and ask questions? Let's not stop at the children. Have you learned this? Do you love understanding the Bible? Have you learned to ask questions and give answers to test your knowledge and understanding? At twelve years old Jesus loved discussing Scripture.A resolute commitmentWhat transpires between Jesus and His parents is of particular interest, however, and why Luke includes this account of Christ youth. When they find their son Mary says: “Where have you been? Don't you know that your father and I was been worried and searching for you?” Jesus answer is respectful, but clear and comes down to: where else would I have been? But the change that Jesus suggests is subtle, but profound. “Don't you know I need to be in my Father's House? Some translations prefer “doing the things of My Father.” The point is: Jesus makes a distinction between His adopted, earthly father and His Heavenly Father. No one called God their Father until now. Jesus is showing that He is unique - at twelve years old - in His role and His being. He is the Son of God. He grew and became strong like a son of man, but He is the Son of God. And as such, He is fully devoted to His Father's work. His loving SubmissionAnd yet - he submits to His earthly parents. He goes home with them. And we don't learn a thing about the rest of His life until His thirties.Jesus was uniquely committed to doing His Father's will. Both His heavenly Father as well as His earthly father. Joseph died somewhere in those years and Jesus took care of His widowed mother. He tells John to look after her when He is hanging on the cross.Jesus was a unique young man. We may learn from His singlemindedness and His devotion to God the Father. But it is here that we see Him learn obedience. And it is by His obedience that constrasts with Adam's disobedience that brings about salvation.
