How does coloniality shape the sociosomatic possibilities of our bodies? More importantly, how do gender-nonconforming people not only resist the limitations of that coloniality but also make, connect to, and revitalize other possibilities? How do displaced people use old and radical practices of embodiment to enact decolonial life now? In Sideways Selves: Travesti and Joetría Struggles Across the Américas (U Texas Press, 2025), PJ DiPietro listens carefully across many registers to the creative work of making and living sideways selves. #96: La mano 'alien' tras un daño cerebral

Hemispherics

Play Episode Listen Later May 2, 2026 45:55

Ray Di Pietro is a working photojournalist based in Nashville. From political candidates to protests, street scenes to t-shirts he shoots it all. I found him almost by accident when searching on Instagram and was struck by his style and felt like we'd get on. I was proved right by this wonderful conversation which I think you'll all enjoy and which starts and finishes with Ray's attire which compliments the way he shows up every day.More about this show:A camera is just a tool but spend enough time with photographers and you'll see them go misty eyed when they talk about their first camera or a small fast prime that they had in their youth. Prime Lenses is a series of interviews with photographers talking about their photography by way of three lenses that mean a lot to them. These can be interchangeable, attached to a camera, integrated into a gadget, I'm interested in the sometimes complex relationship we have with the tools we choose, why they can mean so much and how they make us feel.

He discusses AMSL Aero's mission to build Vertia, a hydrogen-electric tilt-wing eVTOL designed to connect Australia's far-flung regions while dramatically cutting aviation emissions. Unlike most eVTOL developers focused on urban air taxis, AMSL's emphasis is on long-range, zero-emission regional flight—addressing Australia's unique geography and the essential role aviation plays in delivering healthcare, freight, and connectivity to remote areas. The conversation explores how hydrogen power unlocks range and efficiency, AMSL's roadmap toward type certification and a 2030 commercial launch, and the company's collaboration with international partners and the Australian government to develop the hydrogen ecosystem.
